We're back from the wonderful wet event! Thanks to all that put in on. Very nice park along a stream. Found lots of stamps and made some exchanges. Great seeing old friends again and meeting new ones. the seekers1108 left before we did, but didn't make it far. There was a barn coming around a curve on a narrow 2 lane road. If it weren't for bad luck, they'd have no luck at all. I'll let Charlie or Dina tell the story. They're both fine, but I swear that car is a jinx. lol.

Thanks everyone for a fun day!

*LOL* ! Yes, the car is a jinx !!! (Either the car... or is it Charlie ??? Hmmmmmmm.)

Well, Friends, We started the day Letterboxing in Greeneville. We had found a couple and realized that it was NOT a "hour and a half" job. We met up with Hope and CDQ and found one more.... then followed her to the Event site.

We planned on a short visit at the event because we were going to see Nanni and Papaw.
NOTE: We did talk to Papaw and Nanni had a better day today. She's still in the hospital but yesterday was such an incredibly bad day..... at least today she was more "herself".

We got some exchanges, met some new folks and even found a few letterboxers. We said our Goodbyes and apologized for ducking out early. We received instructions from many there to give Nanni their love or to say Hello or to give her a hug !!
We left out about 1:20..... heading to Knoxville !

At about 1:25 our plans were abruptly interupted by THIS:
http://www.atlasquest.com/gallery/viewphoto.html?gPhotoId=90478
It was coming around a curve toward us on the back of this flatbed truck, hanging over on both sides. Neither us or the flatbed were going fast..... but Charlie couldn't move over because of a gully off the edge of the road.... he TOUCHED the brakes and the car FLEW.... we slid right into the front corner of the little house.
The roads were slick with rain and oil. Very slippery.

Charlie was lucky.... he did realize we were going to hit in time to duck over my way a bit.... to save his big ole hard head from damage.
http://www.atlasquest.com/gallery/viewphoto.html?gPhotoId=90477
Our buggy, THE SEEKER MOBILE.... was not so lucky.
The windshield smashed, the driver door and the roof caved in and the frame around the door bent.... now when the window is rolled up, it actually goes OUTSIDE of the car.

How many other people do you know who can hit a house while driving down the road ???
*LOL*

Nobody was hurt, though all involved were shook up. The other people were nice. The THP was called and all necessary paperwork filled out.
Warning tickets were issued on both sides.......and now it's up to the Insurance Companies to DUKE IT OUT !!!

Just another exciting day in the life of THE SEEKERS 1108 !

THANK YOU to DOUG and DENISE for a nice event ! What a great place that Recreation area is !!!

Good Luck with that!!! our son was in a bump up. HE was making a left hand turn and the driver behide him decided to pass him on the left! In a NO passing zone. So of course he hit her. Anyway nobody was given a ticket and the insurance company said "Sorry it's not your day.. you both pay for your own cars) Reason was he should have looked before making that left hand turn... WHY cause she said he was making a U turn. (Which he was not) but they couldn't prove that he was or wasn't.
UGH insurance companies!

That's very true. Insurance companies are not the easiest to work with. haha

Last year, I had a friend that was on his way to work, going 45mph. A car backed out of a parking lot right in front of him, and of course there was no way of stopping. My friend ended up with a broken collarbone, broken ankle, tons of bruising in his foot, a broken wrist, and a broken rib, and not to mention... he was a drummer! But they both had Nationwide, so it wasn't much of a fight at all for the insurance company. They just tried to get out of the whole situation as cheaply as possible.

Nationwide is on your side... and on their side too!

I am so sorry that you had a accident but I am very glad that you are ok and that is the main thing. I hope you don't have to much trouble with the insurance company.

It was so nice seeing the two of you there and thanks for the Nanni update.

Glad to hear other people have problems with insurance companies! Don't feel alone! One thinks that when they are stopped at a red light and you are hit from behind(no brakes applied) a clear rear ender that it is the other guys fault! You would be WRONG. I've now been fighting for over a year! What I have learned - if you rear end someone just say "hey, where is that car that hit me?" apparently you don't even have to have damage! Just sayin!!! All I can say is that no one was seriously hurt!

Not in Arkansas. Even if you were hit first you could be ticketed for failing to properly control you vehicle.

Friends, Thank you for all of your kind remarks.
Yes, we , and all involved were lucky. Property damage can be easily fixed !!
People damage, not so easy !

I have uploaded a few pictures onto the event page. We weren't there long, so I don't have as many as usual !

Storm Rider,
That is one thing that you will never have to worry about with Charlie and me. Our sense of humor is so much a part of who we are, it's always there.

I have been through many times in my life when my sense of humor was all I had to keep me going. I have found over the rough times.... that it's easier to keep the faith and believe that things are going to get better.... if you can find a little humor in even the direst of circumstances.

Yesterday, shortly after the accident, while acessing damage after the law was called.....
I grinned and said "Well, Goofy Girl wasn't AT the event, but it seems that she is here in spirt anyway!"..........
(Last year's mishap with Goofy Girl was on the way TO an Event.... this time it was on the way home from one !)

so let's see...

  1. it's possible to be blamed for an accident in arkansas even if you are sitting at a stop light, completely stopped
  2. it's possible to be blamed for an accident in north carolina even if you are in oklahoma at the time.

I think I got it.

Yes. The reasoning is that if you were hit from behind and knocked into the person ahead of you then you didn't allow enough space....just like following too close.

I watched a defensive driveing video once and it recomended stopping far enough back that you can see the wheels on the car ahead of you. That way you have enough room to turn out of line if you need to. Such as attempted car jacking.

Speaking of being at fault, if you were hit from behind at a red light...This happened to my friend...She DID allow enough room, did NOT hit the car in front of her, but the man who hit her said he was hit from behind and that the car sped off. Even my friend's own insurace company believed him though the photos showed no damgage to his car! Incredible!!

We were at the Ice Cream Social and got the info.: The seekers were hit by a shed.

HUH??

We all pictured a Wizard of Oz thing-- shed traveling via tornado dumped on the Seekers! I pictured a shed with curved feet with tie dye socks protuding from one side and an arm with a magnifier protruding from the other.

Okay, that's not funny-- bad, wolfie, bad!! *stiffling giggle*

Seriously, glad everyone is okay! I hate windy mountain roads-- how can you avoid an accident like that when no one can see until it's too late and there's no place to go?!

Ain't that the truth!! I have found that oftentimes, people with the best sense of humor have been through some of the hardest times. They developed it as a safety mechanism for their own mental health. Also, after enduring truly difficult experiences, the small trials and inconveniences just don't seem that bad.

Our attitude and how we view things makes all the difference since we can't always change the circumstances.

a Wizard of Oz thing

Not the first time I've been linked to the Wizard of Oz..... when I was young,..... and I'd get mad at someone and be ranting... my brother, also named Charlie... would say.....
"Never mind her... she's been this way since that house fell on her sister back in Oz"......
*lol*

We LOL about the tie dye socks and the magnafier. Sounds like a good stamp idea. I'll have to see what Charlie says about THAT !!!

Yep, I believe my words at the time were, "There's got to be a stamp in that!"

Maybe Charlie will agree to carve one if you hold the threat of "what Knit Wit will do with the image" over his head. LOL

I'm sorry about your car but at least you guys weren't hurt.

Okay, now this makes sense. The announcement at the event was "The Seekers car was hit by a storage building". We all had visions of cyclones and houses falling into Oz. It was pretty strange! So glad you guys were okay!

Having already read your account & seen the pictures, I had to laugh every time I saw a shed being driven down the interstate. There were about 5 - all in NC. Just figured they were trying to find you.

*LOL** Maybe so !!!

Hornicorn's Hubby Mike said to Charlie "That's what you get for riding around with a wicked witch !! You're not in Kansas anymore you know!".......

It looks like I'll be paying for my own damages.... though that's not decided yet for sure.....
but the bright side is.... I didn't raise my deductible to 500 as I thought... it's still 250, which is at least reachable.

*YIKES*
