I would only add that I don't think the horse was a hallucination. Didn't Sawyer see it too? The polar bears aren't hallucinations either. I think these may be just oddities of the island.

Incidentally, I can't see it very well, but my sis sent me this link to the map on the hatch door. I can't make much out except the swan on the bottom.

Yes, Lost does ask more questions than it answers. I'm feeling like we're getting closer to learning about the Dharma initiative. Or maybe that's the trick. We think somethings going to be revealed about the master hand behind everything and then it's snatched away. I actually prefer the big picture to remain a mystery.

For example we know that ballon man is not Henry Gale. So we assume that he's one of the others. A natural assumption. Watch there be a third explanation! Lost has a lot of red herrings. Like I'm convinced that Libby is an infiltrator and from the previews it looks like she's doing Hurley in. But you're right, Hurley's probally having a hullucination episode and she's saving him!

I wonder if the lock down was just a fire drill as it were. Lock and Jack haven't been there that long. Maybe every three months or so the security features check themselves. At least now they know that they could lock themselves in should they need to.

I'd love to explore questions and ideas from the first episodes because they set up a lot of what happens presently. Plus it's going to sound weird, but when I have a long term project, I've started watching Season 1 from the first show to the last. It keeps me focused on what I'm doing. Something soothing about the dialog and the music. Except when Jin and Sun are talking- then I have to look up and read!

Lost is like letterboxing- it exercises your brain!!!

Take care, orion

Well, like I said a moment ago...I have some must do things today so I can't just sit here staring at the map but...

again, this thing just poses more questions but it also confirms that some of the strange events is possiblly man made circumstances (or events manipulated by human hand or means). If that makes any sense what so ever. :~)

here goes my first observations...not that they mean much...

This map must have been drawn by the earlier inhabitant during lock downs or he could control the door and drew on it at will and chose the spot for the map to keep it hidden.

The swan we have seen on things in the hatch...now we see a swan as a label for THAT particular hatch or Pod. I see a Flame Pod, a Staff Pod, and a pod called either Arron or Akron. Then there are pods displayed with a dotted line instead of a solide line...probably indicating that they are unfinished or maybe not put to use or inhabited. One pod has even been scribbled out. Possibly it either does not exist anymore, has been shut down or something happened there (it's person or people are gone, dead, whatever).

Notice the swan pod (which I thought says SUN instead of Swan but guess not) has corridors off to either side but on one side the corridor is blocked by an X... maybe indicating it is incomplete?? All pods have corridors that reach toward center but must also be incomplete or blocked off.

Obviously the author of the map did not know what is in the center but understood that everything reaches toward that center.

There are 4 different spots near the swan called CV (CV 1-5 marked in Roman numerals). There are notes saying CVII is inactive since accident. Has this accident caused the pods to be shut off from one another or were the pods never completed?? more questions.

I can make out a bit of scribble here and there but much of it is just too pixelated.

now...one quick observation. I never did really think that all this crazy sightings etc were centered around Walt as some believe. Many on the net are saying that Walt has powers and the entire crash etc was to bring Walt to the island or that Walt has made all this stuff happen with his mind. (However, I do tend to keep going back to Loche saying That the island brought them there and that it has a use for each of them or that they are all there for their own reasons.) Now, back to Walt...if it was his mind that conjured up the polar bear from when he was reading a comic book...I doubt it would have been mentioned on this map. The map indicated there is a research area on the island where "accelerated de-territorialization" of the polar bear is taking place "through gene therapy and extreme climate change."

Seems like I remember an area where there was weird weather suddenly in one episode?? anyone remember anything like that?? I may have been dreaming. LOL

more later...

oh yeah...by the way...for the record...sometimes I don't necessarily think "the Others" were part of Dharma but this is just another question.

I see a a new theory out there sayin that the "staff" pod (the one with the medical staff symbol on it) is where Claire was held. The map seems to make note that that pod was abandoned after an incident. So, that if it was abandoned then the Others were not dharma folks. Still for me...just poses questions. We can assume that Claire was in that pod because of medical supplies etc that were there but we don't know that..or do we?? does anyone remember seeing a staff on the doors there?? You know, like how the swan is on things in the Hatch that Loche is in. Maybe the facility that is mentioned on the map as abandoned is the one just above the Staff...the one scribbled out in the map.

Also...just to the left of the Staff pod on the map is writing "estimated travel time to 108 incompatable. DO NOT ATTEMPT ______________"

In the very center under big ? is the words "designation unknown" and "purpose unknown" but there is other stuff scribbled there too that I can't make sense of.

that's the way 95% of the map is...either illegible or way over my head. I hat math so my mind's eye simply tries to block out the equations. LOL

here is an actual answer I found on the map. It answers a question I posed only this morning after looking at the map.

Under the big words circled that says: "I AM HERE" under neath the swan pod is the words
"multiple escape conduits blocked after incident"

so it appears that the tunnels or passageways were completed and then blocked after the accident mentioned several times on the map....UNLESS...the author of the map is guess or theorizing and didn't actually experience the episodes.

Thanks Amyrica - great link!

Per the EW article I think the following are plausible:

Quote Anthony[Locke's father], he said his name was. But that's probably one of many names. Hmmm...career con artist, always on the run, man of many names...might one of those names be...Sawyer?

Also, the lockdown and the food drop may be related - with the lockdown keeping the folks in the hatch from seeing where the food drop comes from.

Another interesting note: one of the homes we see Locke inspecting belonged to Sayid's long-lost love, Nadia.

Love this show!

I think alot of the numbers we see in the form of 4.08.00 or 8.18.01 or 01.06.03 are dates.

I think it's possible that the lock down happens automatically when the food drop happens, to keep the hatch participants from seeing where the supplies come from and who drops them. It was interesting to see, because when you look at the age of the Dharma Initiative movie, and you think about the guy who was in the hatch most recently, that's a long passage of time. I've really been wondering where all the food came from. Surely that's too much to store in that particular space, and some would go bad after time. I thought somebody had to be supplying it.

after further thoughts on this last night when I was talking LOST with the other half at the dinner table...I agree!! I had forgotten there for awhile that he got those numbers from that guy. But I still don't know for sure if it's a hallucination. He may actually BE there...or not :~) who knows. LOL

Lost is the best! I missed the Nadia reference but will play the tape back and look. Here I am waiting for season two to come out (hopefully this summer) and I should've been taping them all along. There's no way you can catch everything the first time!
When the last show started and the guy said "previously....." there was a scene where Lock was in a therapy group of some sort. I totally missed that episode (I don't know how unless it was a 2 hour one and I missed the first hour!). But is that where he met Helen? Can someone fill me in on Helen? Also did they ever reveal how Lock lost the use of his legs?

Thanks Amyrica for the links. That map has a whole lot of info that I need to check out. DixieKin, you're the best at finding all the little clues. You did a lot of the work for me but now I'll have to digest it all!

That would be interesting if Anthony Cooper was the original conman Sawyer. The thugs tracking him down shows that he has enemies. Seems like the age and personality are right, too.

Finally, I love the Alias/Lost crossover theory! LOL. My Mom got me hooked on Alias when it began and if she were alive now she'd be loving Lost.

I'm so happy to have fellow Lost fans to speculate with!!!

Take care, Orion

No...nothing has been revealed about his paralysis or alleged paralysis. that is among the things I wanted to post about when I mentioned I may write here about the things that go all the way back to season one that I still can't wrap my mind around.

Loche fascinates me. Partly because of his "faith" way of seeing things even though life had dealt him a darned raw deal...partly because i still don't know about his paralysis. We assume he was paralyzed and I still believe he really was BUT...what if he wasn't and it was psychsymatic (?sp). That would mean that at least one of the island's so called miracles is not a miracle after all. If he was paralyzed...I WANNA KNOW HOW...dad jim it!! Loche is such a perfect character. He has a strong, hard, weathered, tough as nails look to him and then...he smiles. He just melts into this kind, gentle soul that everyone wants to get to know. Loche either has an understanding beyond what others can comprehend or he is completely in the dark. LOL ain't LOST crazy in that way. There are a million either / or's I can think of.

and don't get me started on Sawyer...not the real sayer but the Sawyer who just wants everyone to hate him. Gosh, do I ever LOVE him. I really hope that episode where he went ape crap and bullied everyone, took all the supplies and guns was just a passing thing. He makes me laugh out loud often.

I need those DVDs... but usually season box sets of anything are a bit spendy.
Ooooo, I know...we need one of those all day and night LOST marathons to come TBS or Spike TV. I recently watched 8 hours of 24 straight and would have watced more if it had been available.

Yeah, the boxed set was definitely a splurge. I really like the behind the scenes commentary and the out takes.

Lock and Jack are both take charge guys and so smart. Jack is the man of science and Lock's the man of faith. So, of course, they're going to clash.

Lock does have the most interesting face. He can seem so steely and tough and then so kind. When he knocked Boone out and gave him the "wacky paste" I thought that he'd gone to the dark side. But it was what Boone needed to experience to let Shannon go.

And Sawyer's definitely got the bad boy thing going on! He makes several references to the "sheriff" in regards to Jack, Sayid and I even think he's called Kate that. So I guess he just seized his moment to be the new sheriff in town. It sets up some good tension.

On the bonus DVD, a bunch of the cast was being interviewed on stage at the TV Museum. Jorge Garcia (Hurley) was saying how much his own mother loves Sawyer. Once he told her that a main character was going to be killed off that season and she looked at him with a look of horror and said- "Not Sawyer!!!". Too funny.

Take care, Orion

nice link thunderbird. That answers alot about what is on the map. but now a question I asked earlier and I don't think anyone has answered or given their opinion yet...

we know about the swan pod and the tailies were in the arrow pod. It is being assumed that when claire was with the others that they had her in the Staff pod because of the medical connection...but did anyone actually see the staff symbol on the walls etc?? I can't remember.

If it was the Staff pod and it was abandoned after the accident or incident as the notes on the map indicate then the others may not have anything to do with Dharma. but isn't it possible that it wasn't the Staff pod at all where Claire was held...that maybe another facility became the medical station after the "incident".

Of course there are a half dozen other questions I can pose just on thios one topic between the others, the pods and if the others are Dharma etc.

so again...has anyone seen a symbol on the walls of the place where Claire had been held??

Helen turned up in Locke's last flashback. He met her soon after his father took his kidney. Can't remember where. Maybe a therapy group. Anyway, in the last flashback, they were having this lovely relationship blossoming, but he was obsessed with his father. He'd sneak out at night and go park in front of his father's house, sort of stalker-like. Helen caught on he was doing that, and she demanded he choose - his father, or her. So with this last episode, I guess he made the conscious choice for Helen, until his father came back in.

There is a symbol on the wall during "Maternity Leave." I can remember kate checking it out and running her fingers over it. I think it was in the room with the closet containing the disguises. But I don't have it on tape to remember what the symbol was.

Yes, it was the same medical symbol with the snake that was in the "staff" pod. That's the place they were with Claire that is now abandoned (where they left behind the costumes).

Yes, Helen and Locke met at an anger management therapy group.
