Re Mysteries: Never feel stupid or intimidated by mysteries. I love them and spend a lot of time solving them but you can have a wonderful letterboxing experience by never doing a mystery. I will pass on though the fact that there are many websites such as www.braingle.com and other decoder sites which can help with solving some of the coded messages. The crytic clues which hone in on a local site--many of us may never solve those.

Hope this hint helps.

Wow you learned to ski in one day. Impressive! I have a pair of shoes that took me several days to learn how to put on easily. Of course they are Vibram Five Fingers so they aren't your ordinary shoe:)

Thanks for doing that Google search...I was thinking that the weird name for those shoes HAD to be like toe socks...but then started thinking, "who in their right mind would wear shoes like that?" Guess now I know...Terrio--still laughing

I wonder if shoes like this would be good for Robb? it says they increase muscle stimulation, strength, balance, and neural feedback to the rest of the body.

Yeah, they are kind of ugly aren't they, although my husband thinks they look cool. They are soooo comfortable though, and work great for hiking especially if you like splashing around in the creeks like I do.

I have really weak ankles and they have helped a lot. Each time I hike my feet and ankle muscles get sore towards the end but in a worked out way, not a I twisted my ankle a billion times on the hike way. You also end up paying way more attention to how you walk and I noticed my calves hurt less too.

how expensive are these shoes, and do you think they would be good protection against cactus spines?

They are around $80.00 so not a cheap investment. I wouldn't want to wear them around cactus spines. They really only protect the bottom of your foot and the front of your toes. The sole isn't really thick so a spine might go right through and the top is mesh so it definitely wouldn't stop a spine. I live in Georgia so I have only tried them out on sharp rocks and roots. You can feel the rocks but they don't hurt unless you come down really hard on a pointy one.

Wow you learned to ski in one day.

I didn't say I was good at it, but I was able to go completely down the green slope while only falling once by the end of the day. =)

How are these fixed for arch support? I have "flexible flat feet" (when I stand up my arch flattens out--not comfortable) and need good arch support for hiking.

They have absolutely no arch support, but that is the point. They claim that you can gradually get used to wearing them so you don't need it. They have a whole philosophy behind the shoes that support is actually harming our feet blah, blah, blah. That's not why I bought them. They were just really comfortable, but I have found that they are helping my weak ankles and seem to be strengthening my foot muscles. Here's the website if you are interested in reading more about them and how they are supposed to help our feet http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/

The part he ISN'T telling you is that the "one fall" happened at the top, and he rolled the rest of the way down. By the time he (literally) hit the Ski Lodge, he had to change his trailname to "Frosty the Tortuga".

LOL. That reminds me of one time when I was learning to snowboard and accidentally ended up on a black diamond. I just sat down, put my board in the air, and used my slick pants to slide all the way down.

They didn't look like they came up far enough around the ankle to be very supportive

They don't support the ankle at all. They have been helping my ankles by making them stronger. I used to twist my ankles all the time in my old hiking boots, but with these at the end of a hike my ankles feel like they had a work out but not from twisting them. Just sore like your legs after a long hike. I've found that the more I wear them the less I twist my ankles. I know it doesn't seem to make sense. They have a whole less support is better philosophy that you can read about on their website if you want. It worked for me. I don't know anyone else that wears them so I don't know how they have worked for others.

No, the part I haven't told you was the one time a ski fell off my boot halfway up the ski lift and I had to walk halfway down the mountain with one ski to retrieve the other one. *sigh*

I did that on my second day on the slopes, though. The trickiest part, however, was how to get OFF the ski lift when it reached the end! I made quite a mess of that... What a fiasco. *shaking head* =)

That was harder than learning to ski for me. Down hill was easy enough, but I dreaded trying to get off the ski lift. :)

The only thing that truly matters is pleasing ME. And I LIKE the new colored ribbons with the numbers in them, along with the variable number of flagella. I have spoken.

THIS from a man with NO discernible flagella...!

That is why you have cilia in your nose. It filters out everything but the smell.
