looking for calligraphy supplies
Board: State: Connecticut

I'm posting this on the Connecticut board because I live in CT and I'm hoping someone can point me to a store...

I'm supposed to address my little sister's wedding invitations. She told me she wants them done in brown ink. So of course I have every color of the rainbow--except brown! I have a Parker pen and a Sheaffer pen, and I'm looking for cartridge refills--fountain pen refills. I checked an arts store, who told me to go to a stationery store. I tried Staples--they only have black and blue. I couldn't find anything at A.C. Moore. Haven't actually tried Michael's yet. Anyone know if they have much for calligraphy, or know of any other places I could check?

Thanks!

I don't live in CT but, as a last resort, do you have time to order online?

I haven't explored that option yet--I suppose I ought to do it soon!! Any suggested sites?

http://www.artstuff.net/calligraphy_pens_and_cartridges.htm

That page has a place where you can order brown ink.....not sure if the "model" of pen makes a difference or not but it's a start.

Calligraphy supplies can be had at most craft stores and probably college/university bookstores, too. For that matter, you could try one of the big-box bookstores.

FWIW, I've recently seen calligraphy supplies and sets at: AC Moore and Jerry's Art-a-rama, and would be surprised if Michael's and JoAnn's didn't have them. Get the 40% off coupons from the Sunday paper for savings (some of these chains offer the coupon on-line...). :D

most of the calligraphy supplies I"ve seen lately are for dip pens rather than fountain. I can't even find a fountain pen that is just a plain (not calligraphy) pen anywhere...

I did see some fountain pen kits at Michaels though, within the last month. you might try there.

That's it! And it's cheaper than the two other places I found on a quick search. If I don't find it at Michael's on Friday, I'll go there!

Thank you all for your suggestions--and my sister thanks you too! Or she would, if she knew what I was going through to track down this ink!!

There is always Jerry's Artarama on Route 7 in Norwalk. Give them a call before you make the drive... but I'll bet they have what you need. They even carry the pink stuff!!!

There's also a Jerry's Artarama in West Hartford, which is a little closer to you.

I have indeed bought some of the pink stuff and Mastercarve there! (And found a letterbox...) And they were the first place that I asked--they told me to try Staples...

I'm going to try there tomorrow--I did not know that about the coupons, though! Does it go both ways?

OK, so I've been away for awhile and answered an old request which had already been addressed. ;-) Hope you were successful in finding ink. It caught my eye because I'll be doing the same thing for my daughter's wedding in October.

I think I have enough--found a brown felt-tip at Michael's and realized I had one cartridge with "gold" in the name that I hope will work. Also one pen that I don't really like using that does have a refillable cartridge, and I do have a bottle of brown ink. But I have bookmarked your posts so I'll have all of those websites for the future!

Thanks,
Kit Kat

p.s. have fun with your invitations!
