My son and I found our first HH the other day, and he was instantly intrigued. He now wants to plant a HH of his own. The only problem is that he loves to see all the stamps collected in the book. So is there any way of getting a HH back after awhile??? Any help is appreciated. thanks

Hey there,

Unfortunately, there's no guarantee it will come back. I know some people who have sent hitchhikers out, never to be seen again. Others have actually gotten them back, which I think is awesome.

On my hitchhiker (I've only "released" one), I put my e-mail address on the small log book and asked for the last person to e-mail me when the log book was full so that I could send them a stamp or an envelope or something to get it back to me. We'll see if it happens. *crosses fingers*

When I found an HH this summer I emailed the owner and offered to digitally photograph each page and email it to them. They appreciated seeing the logbook virtually. --JARS

that's a great idea JARS. my son is just so afraid of not seeing the stamps. I told him people can steal regular boxes also, he just doesn't want to take the chance. Maybe I can put a letter in it about getting it back to us after so many people have found it. thanks a ton.

Or you can limit how many pages are in the logbook? That might shorten the return time.

If he'd like to see the stamps, you could always simultaneously launch a postal letterbox hitchiker, which may move faster than traditionals.

Good luck with it!

I have done both the small log book and the larger logs with a return. Also, a third HH was returned to me and I sent a letterbox to plant as a sort of thanks! (or another HH). Unfortunatly, my first HH is still out there and I have know idea what's up with it....actually I like it this way. I know there will be a surprise in the future! : )

Also, after contacting the owner, I have added log material and/or sent it in return to the owner. I guess what I am saying is people will get in touch!

Take care out there!

Another idea: I came across a HH that had index cards addressed and stamped already to the owner. She just wanted you to stamp you sig. stamp, write what box it was found in and drop it in the mail.
Good luck!
