Are you sure it's a letterbox? It sounds more like a geocache.
Can you post a link or URL?

It's absolutely not a geocache - I do geocaching as well. I got the clues to the box from lbna, and there is also a listing on atlasquest. The plastic dinosaur was not a trade item - it was part of the box theme.

These people haven't even logged in since Sept. 2007. They have planted only this box and have no finds. Sounds like they jumped the gun on the plant.

OMG! one of my boxing buddies and I went out for a 4 box series the other day. The first three "boxes" just had clues for the next box, no log book or stamp. The final one just had a folded up note card with "good job" and "You did it" stickers along with a folded up piece of paper that other finders had used as a log book. It was a fun hunt, but very disappointing!!! The is the person's only plant and they have no finds either!! What the heck is going on!

Here's the clue http://www.atlasquest.com/lboxes/showboxinfo.html?gBoxId=62394

Wow - a 4 stage non-letterbox. So when boxers find a non-letterbox listed as a letterbox, do we 1) log it in as a find 2) ignore it and pretend we never found it or 3) try to have the author add a stamp and if that fail ask lbna and/or AQ to delist it?

This was planted by someone who logged on one day and posted those clues, and has not logged on since. If you are seeking a box by anyone you've never heard of, you might want to look at their profile prior to heading out. I don't mind seeking something planted by someone new... but if they had only logged on once and it was two months ago - I'd probably think twice before going out of my way to find anything planted by them.

I'd say by the looks of it... someone had time on their hands and felt like yanking some AQ chain in the Pacific NWest...

Looks like Marmalade and Maiden found this 'series' too. They
are seasoned boxers, as are some of the other finders.
Any comments from them?
Hmmm...
I might be tempted to carve something simple and place in the boxes,
otherwise other new boxers
just might be terribly disappointed??

About the dinosaur box, have you tried to contact the placer and ask them
it this box did have a stamp. Could be a geocacher, or someone else took
the stamp and placed a plastic dinosaur in.

There were some comments in the logbook about there not being a stamp, can't remember who said what though. I'm pretty sure the dino was supposed to act as a stamp, I seem to remember the logbook cover having dino footprint from the toy on the cover. The box and the dino are on the large size - looks like a big box was chosen to hold the big dino. I've emailed the placer, haven't heard back yet. I decided not to log the find - I was reading "The Letterboxer's Companion" (picked it up at the library) and it said a box has to have a stamp in it for you to count it as a find. I suspect someone was a bit confused about what a letterbox was, or thought they could be inovative and use the dino's feet for a stamp. I was just wondering what other boxers do when they run across something like this.

Go and check the clue now. I'll bet it has been updated today. It now mentions the missing stamp.

Yes, I just received an email from the planter - there did used to be a stamp and someone must have lost it. I'm surprised, I really thought there never was a stamp based on my flip through the log book. Points out why it's important to communicate problems with a box to the planter - in spite of comments in the logbook about there being no stamp, the planter was totally unaware that the stamp was missing.

I have never planted a box without a stamp, but I did plant a box once with two stamps in one box and listed it as two distinct boxes. Oh, and what's more, this box was 2nd and 3rd in a series of 4 boxes (they have all been listed as unavailable.) The clue sent the questers to the first of the four boxes and then bonus clue cards led them to the 2nd/3rd box and then another bonus card sent them on to the 4th box. All boxes in the same park. The 2nd/3rd/4th boxes had stamps only, no logbooks. The finders logged their find in the logbook contained inside box number one. Was this bad form? Were the 2nd/3rd and 4th boxes "not letterboxes" since they did not have logbooks?

I was thinking of putting two stamps in one box. But counting it as one find.

I like the design on an old coffee cup of my Mom's. And it would be easier to carve it as two seperate stamps instead of one big stamp.

Some people would say that they were not. I'd say count 'em however you want 'em. Your box(es), your rules.

You guys do any snow boxing this winter? =)

But it doesn't have to be a valid e-mail address - you can just make one up.

Good point! I think there is more of a resemblence there.....

.I'll have to go watch some Cartoons.
While just flipping through the channels on my TV with Rabbit ears, I found Rocky and Bullwinkle. It was an episode with Boris and Natasha. I hadn't seen these in at least a decade. What a fun find. I just had reply.

You don't have to play a kazoo to be a great Gazoo. All you have to do is act all superior in your alien abilities. :-)

Plus I could SO see you building a destruction button for the universe...
