However, the cardboard was near perfect the size of the envelope and I think it was just slicing right through either during transportation or during the machining process.

that's what I've been doing...putting in a nice stiff piece of cardboard...now it looks like I'll have to change my ways, just in case. :0 or use less thick cardboard (maybe use the side of a cereal box, which I've done too!)

I have had some come to me that were placed inside a blank card, which I think will work just fine....so I'm going to have to go to the dollar store and pick up some cheap packs of blank cards! :)

Ihave had trouble. I got one nice fat one from HG and it was sliced through on each side.
My idea was that they had been put through the mechanical sorter and was a little too thick.
I think the answer might be to hand cancel ones that are a bit more bulky?

I did receive one envelope that was damaged. The end was completely slit open. Fortunately, all of the cards were still there. I don't remember the details though, but it might have included cardboard as well.

Has anyone else had experiences with ruined envelopes and can you explain?

I've only had one problem, and the envelope contained a card with "jewels" on it. One of the "jewels" tore through the envelope. I think that a clear protector would have fixed the problem in this instance, and everything made it to me.

I usually buy greeting cards from the Dollar Tree, and stick the LTCs inside of the card. Has anyone had a problem with mine?

*wondering*

Quote Previously, I've just been putting them in cards and mailing them off without much concern. But, I'd really like to see if there are methods that have worked for others that tend to mail a few at a time.

What I have done, since the open/split envelope has happened to two of my envelopes, is I take a 4 x 6 index card, fold it in half, tape shut both edges and put all the LTCs in the pocket. So far so good. If anyone gets one of these pockets from me, let me know if they worked. Thanks

All of the envelopes I have received have been in near perfect condition. Some were received in a card, with a piece of cardboard as a protector, and some just in the envelope with no protection at all. So far, so good. If anyone receives a damaged one from me, let me know and I'll send another.

I haven't had any reports on the envelopes I've sent of being received destroyed. But I got one in the mail last week that was folded in half. But no harm was done to the card.

Then yesterday when I went to mail out some envelopes, I asked the PO person if she could please weigh them so I could make sure 1 stamp would be enough. My heaviest envelope only had 3 LTC in it. But after she weighed it she proceeded to press on it. I have an embelshment on one of the cards. I couldn't believe she was pushing on it and make the outline of the image come through the envelope:( I finally grabbed the envelope back from her:( She almost ripped a whole in it. So I decided to write "Please hand cancel" on all of the envelopes I mailed out yesterday. One of them was on the way to you. So I'm curious to know if the actually do.

Makes me wonder if we should be taping up the envelopes, like we do for PLB's;)

I got one from dewberry, just the envelope. The end had been sliced open and there was nothing in it.
The mangled envelope came with a thing from the post office that said they regretted the "inadvertant damage".

I'm not sure what we can do about it, though, other than resorting to carrier pigeons ;)

I found a box in the thank you card/invitation section at Target Sunday that was 100 cards and envelopes for 9.99. There was probably about 10 different colors, cards and envelopes the same colors. The cards are card stock 4x6. They'd be perfect to fold in half or just place in the envelope. There was two different color combinations.

Well, everyone should know how I package mine: every card in a plastic sleeve and a 4x6 index card folded in half to protect the cards a little more. No chance of index cardstock slicing through the envelope. I'm sure zipping through the machines at the PO is the culprit.

I have received quite a few damaged envelopes. Can we just not use cut up cardboard - it seems to cause problems. Using cheap cards seems to work fine, but why not buy a ton of 4x6 index cards at WalMart and make your own? Much more cost effective.

I receive many, many cards in the mail; both for myself and Cowgirl. I would like to make a few observations:

-heavy glitter gets everywhere and is usually not on the card by the time it gets here.
-it is hard to log cards that don't have titles or names clearly on the card somewhere
-plastic sleeves really do help protect the cards during shipment

I can't believe how many cards I have in my collection now... I'm gonna have to buy another notebook soon!

You can get the plastic sleeves at a coin/card trading hobby shop, or at Hobby Lobby in the coin/card trading section. I believe I've also seen folks post they got them at Walmart. They work out to be 1-2 cents each; a good investment for the protection they provide. I think the one box I bought will last forever because I take the LTCs I receive out of them when I put them in my display pages; then recycle the sleeves onto the cards I make to trade. Only a few have been messed up enough to throw away.

I'm glad to know this about ruined envelopes, and cardboard. I love using cut up cereal boxes for the recycling "good karma" - but not if the envelopes are torn, and the card ends up landing on the floor of some PO facility, being stepped on (a thought that makes me depressed...... ;-)). So I will go to index cards, and make a clever stamp to put on them, a la SHH and others! And the cut up cereal boxes just became "glue" stations. When they get too gluey, they can go in the wood burning stove ;-))

If anyone has lost cards I sent because of a torn envelope, please let me know!!

Re: glitter on cards - being a preschool teacher, I LOVE glitter, I get PAID to glitter - lol!! But I've never put it on my cards. However, I did happen upon a neat product at ACMoore - glitter glue in the kids craft section. It comes in different colors, though it is fairly translucent. I used some on some fairy wings (Garden Fairy, for those that received it) and it's sparkly, and (as far as I know) doesn't shed. THe glitter is very fine and (naturally), mixed with the glue. Just a thought for fellow glitter lovers!

We must have been thinking this at the same time!!! I recently moved my collection to a "nice" larger notebook, and it's already almost full - woo hoo!! And I have one swap in the mail back to me, and 3 more poised to send back - it's gonna be a great mail week pretty soon!!!

Loving these LTCs - especially on days like today when it's pouring cold rain outside..... :-P
