PZKut order is ORANGE!

I just got in a shipment of PZKut to get me through the summer months, and when I opened the box I was shocked to discover that the material is orange...blaze orange. I'm sure it'll carve the same, but it's hard on the eyes. Anyone have any idea why they switched from white?

I love orange on pumpkins, leaves and juice, but do not like it 4 inches from my eyes on something I'm looking at very closely. As I am now addicted to PZKut, that is disappointing news for my rapidly aging eyes.

Let us know if it's just the same otherwise.

Brightly,

That is way to wierd. I could handle a light soothing yellow, but blazing orange. That seems awfully harsh for a material we will be staring closely at for untold amounts of time.

I'm a little scared!

I just got an order and it was the same ol' white stuff. That's strange!

Apparently the grade B is still white and will remain white -- only the grade A will be orange. It has something to do with how they make it. I have always used the grade B so I am happy to hear that is not going flourescent!

Did you hear that from them (about the grade A vs B)? That is so interesting. It does seem a little disturbing. How bright of an orange is it? Glowing or softer? From what I understand the main difference between A and B is just how the very edge curves a bit-- b/c they are cut from the same pieces, just inside or outside.

I guess that wouldn't be the case if they are different colors now. That makes it sound like it may be a different piece altogether--which does make me wonder if there may be more to the quality difference besides a slight turn on the outside edge.

Hmmm,

I got some PZkut in today and I expected the orange, but it also seemed like the sheet was smaller. I didn't pay any attention to the dimensions on the web site. Has anyone else noticed this?

And what were they thinking making it Orange? Don't they know red, orange and yellow stimulate hunger? I've just finished a stamp and I'm starving now. The little pile of orange shavings that look just like shredded cheddar isn't helping either! *stomps off to make a sandwich*

I actually sent Mr. Justin Pease at Stampeaz an email recently asking about the orange PZ-Kut. I wanted to know why it was orange and could I get in in white instead. He said the manufactor of the PZ-Kut had to change the chemical make-up of the material. It will not be going back to white. They weren't too happy with the orange either at Stampeaz, but it was either orange or they would have to stop selling it. He did suggest covering the material in white ink before you carve it. That won't work for most of us who transer images to the material before carving it. Plus it can get extremly messy and clog up the carving tools. I am pretty sure the size stayed the same though.

After receiving that email, I saddly went straight to Mister Art and ordered 5 blocks of Mastercarve. I won't be using PZ-Kut again. I cannot look at that awful orange for hours on end.

I am sure if you email Mr. Justin Pease, he will be happy to explain this to you further. He is a really nice guy.

I was just venting (and trying to be funny). Also wondered if anyone else has suffered from the adverse side effects, or noticed the shavings looking like cheese.=)

I have always ordered grade b of pz kut. I have never had any problems with it. It still comes in white (well, at least my last two orders have). So, maybe those who hate the orange would find this to be a good alternative.

Never mind. I just read the site and grade b is orange too. I was ordering it while grade a was orange and my grade b was still white. Maybe they just had more grade b on hand left from the white formula.

The grade B I got was also white. But if it is orange, I don't think I will order more. I love the price, but can't do the orange.

The website states that it is now orange. But if I'm not mistaken, the picture shows white...

I remember reading somewhere that Justin was quoted as saying he could get it in other color's, that the white had become inferior somehow and was a problem to carve, so he chose orange. It would be nice if he could get it in something like pale blue, because I can't deal with the neon orange, and as soon as my supply of white is gone I'll be looking for a different material to carve.

It's NEON orange!? I was hoping like cream-sicle or sherbet orange. I am down to 2 sheets of white PZKut. What are folks switching to? I guess I will go with Mastercarve again.

I had ordered 4 sheets of Grade B PZ Cut a couple of months ago, when it was supposed to still be white. I received 3 white and 1 orange - all labed "B". Being prone to migrane headaches, I was a little worried about looking at neon orange for long periods of time. I also have a tough time getting used to something new when I like what was already available. =)

I recently started carving 10 stamps out of the orange for a new series I'm working on & have been pleasantly surprised. No migraines and not so bad to look at. The texture is actually a little smoother and easier to carve and the orange gives a contrasting color so it's easier to see how close you have actually gotten to your image. My best guess for texture comparison would be between "pink stuff" and white PZ Cut (closer to the PZ Cut).

Before anyone switches, you may want to give it a try?? You never know how it will work for you until you try it for yourself.

Ah, a fellow migraine sufferer. :-)
The bright color has been one of my concerns, another is how well the ironed-on pattern (which ends up dark pink) shows against the orange.

I've never used the iron transfer method myself,so I can't help you there. I use velum paper to trace the image with pencil, then put the image face down on the PZ cut and "rub" the image on with something firm but smooth like the plastic handle on sissors or the end of an ink pen. It's simple and the images couldn't be better.

I tried transfering with acetone once and just got a blurry mess.

I've been using the orange PZ Cut for awhile now and it works just fine. Seems just a little bit stiffer than the white stuff..but that may be just be an illusion. I'm not thrilled with staring at the orange all day but being a Syrause Orange fan...I am used to it. :)

I still prefer the pink stuff to about anything..and I've tried them all.
I just wish it were cheaper.

I carved with the "A" Orange today for the first time. I did find it a little stiffer and flakier... but it holds detail well and the color is not too terribly blinding. I don't mind using it untill something better comes along.
