I think I just planted the first hostel in NC. :)

Actually, it wasn't in an effort to be first, but it just seemed like a good way of unloading the stamps the kids were carving! They really enjoy creating something on their own, but I don't have the time to keep up with planting them all!
I've never found a hostel myself, but I did read the ones that were out there so I think I have the rules correct and written simply enough to understand.

I actually took a couple of hours to plant it since we ran into a lot of difficulty. I took a while to find the perfect tree. Then when we did we tried to rig it up as planned but instead it got stuck and we had to come up with a new plan. When it got stuck it meant that I lost a part that I needed for it to work so I had to cut off a clip from one of the kids' water bottles! Necessity is the mother of invention. I'll come back next week with the correct clip but, for now, the temporary clip works fine.

We are in Denver for this week and next and hope to nail a few boxes next week during the "fun" part of the trip after the "Biz" part is done.

"Would love to have had video!"

It would have made a great video. I initially tried to free the stuck end by thrusting the middle child up in the tree (he's very good at tree climbing at age 7). That didn't work (he was still too short). Then I told him to stand on one end of a log and I would jump on the other end and launch him up there (of course I was joking-- well, partially anyway...). He climbed on the log and was quite disappointed that I wasn't actually going to do it. Then I stacked up some logs and had the other 2 kids pin me against the tree while I was reaching up since I didn't have anything I could hold onto. In the end, I had to change the originally plans, but I doubt you would ever know.

LMAO!!! After all that, we will definatly have to stop by for a visit on our next trip to Shelby! Wish there was a box or two planted in Shelby. It sure it a pretty town! We should be back that way in the next two or three weeks. I want to find the boxes in Gastonia, the 2 I missed at Reedy Creek, and the boxes at McDowell. Maybe a few on the road if there are any convinent (not sure of our travel route next trip). Maybe you'd like to meet up for an exchange somewhere along the way?

I'm out of town the week of July 4th (I'm picking up some letterboxes in route to Michigan). There is none in the hometown I grew up in! I'll have to fix that!

Otherwise, I'm available. I work fulltime M-Th but do a lot of driving in the district. My partner has already had to go with me on an exchange once with Cherokee Rose during work hours. I'll probably hunt a Gastonia letterbox or two on the weekend of 7/23 myself (my brother is coming in town for a seminar in Gastonia that weekend). Every Saturday morning we go to the Matthews library (the boys like to check on Little Engine there). Every Saturday afternoon we are out in the Pineville area (the boys take martial arts out that way) and near McDowell. Let me know when you will be here and we'll hook up.

Sounds like you are going to circle the 485 around Charlotte: Gastonia, then McDowell, then Reedy Creek. Silverwing is directly off the 485 (Providence Exit), Little Engine is a very short distance off the 485 (Matthews exit), Gone Nutty is a short ways from Little Engine.

bogart
(slang verb) To keep something all for oneself, thus depriving anyone else of having any. A slang term derived from the last name of famous actor Humphrey Bogart because he often kept a cigarette in the corner of his mouth, seemingly never actually drawing on it or smoking it. Often used with weed or joints but can be applied to anything.

To selfishly hold on to something. Jocular usage heard amongst smokers of marijuana.

Come on Frank! Don't bogart that joint, we all want to get stoned sometime tonight.

"Hey can I bogart in on an exchange???"

Sounds fine with me. Remember I'm out of out 7/4-7/10.

I'm sorry we didn't have our stamp then! We are there about every Saturday checking on it. I started bringing my stamp in the van after that!

"Hey can I bogart in on an exchange???"

Max: I am confused about "bogart" ...
According to Amanda's definition, it is a slang verb essentially meaning to hoard something without sharing. At least that's what I read. Also the example of keeping the joint to one's self and not sharing it supports that.

However, as used in the sentence above, it comes across as ... "Hey, can I BARGE IN on this exchange between you two guys?" or "May I PARTICIPATE in this exchange?"

What gives? Are you bogarting the definition of bogart?

Amanda is correct, however, we here in the south tend to use it to mean both. Goodness I can create quite a little stir can't I.
