For all you budding photographers out there, a place to swap photography tips or using photo-editing software. (I use Paint Shop Pro myself.) -- Ryan

Just splurged on a Nikon D200. I feel like we bought a new car since the camera's worth more than our 92 Camry and quarter the value of our other 'new' car! Hopefully, I'll figure out how to use it before we depart this scenic wonderland of the Pacific Northwest! Any hints/tricks or the trade you professional photogs out there care to share? Thanks in advance... daelphinus

I'm not really convinced that you need any hints or tricks, but do remember to keep an eye open for photos that might make a nice photo for the 2007 AQ calendar. ;o)

Is it a digital camera? I can't imagine you'd have purchased one fo those analog cameras. I think my car is probably worth more than those nowdays. =)

Yep, it's digital. That's what the 'D' stands for otherwise Nikon's are usually 'N's. ;) I already had an ancient Canon AE-1 SLR but eventually sold it on Ebay when I started using the digital format more than the film. Now, I'm just scrambling to collect all the necessary accessories to actually use it (flash memory cards, extra hard-drives for storing data, etc). It's almost like having a baby--so much stuff to worry about all at once! ;) We ordered it online so it won't get here for a while--thankfully giving us a little time to prepare for it before it arrives. daelphinus

Do you know if it's a boy or a girl yet? =)

It's beautiful bouncing MAGNESIUM!!! It'll go well with our Titanium wedding bands. ;) Will we ever be able to get through airport security again?

what? the GT has a CAR? I dont believe it! If so, it's probably got so few miles on it, if you took it in, the dealers would be convinced you flipped back the odometer! My dh 's 85 Nissan was like this... He lived about 7 miles from work, and basically never left the county (until he met me).... in 2002 when he was taking me to the airport, we "celebrated" his turning 50k miles over on it!

To keep this on topic, coincidentally, I've been thinking of getting a new camera. I have an Olympus Camedia 3000 now and it just eats batteries. (I guess they all do though). I like that it has digicam capablilities but it is rather slow to respond.
I'm thinking of getting a Canon Rebel. Anyone wanna chime in on their experiences with this model?

I don't drive often (in fact, I disconnect the battery most of the time to not run them dry!), but when I do, I tend to go for long distances. (Probably a thousand miles or so at a shot.)

I have one of those and absolutely love it. I don't use it so much anymore since it's not a digital, but it's on my wish list. =) If I did get a *nice* digital camera, I'd probably stick with Canon because I do like it, and I could still use all my old zoom lenses and filters. =)

I have a Canon EOS Rebel circa 1993, including a 300-zoom lens and some filters. I love it too, but since I bought my first digital, Nikon Coolpix 3200, I haven't used the Canon. It is a monster to travel with, but I can't part with it.

Oh, and I have an old Besler-Topcon 35mm camera that my dad gave me years ago. I might put that one on ebay. Works, but who needs 3 cameras?

I have a Canon EOS-II (I think that's what it's called) and eagerly await the day I can get a digital Canon and still make use of all those lenses etc. I love it but I can't stand dragging around all that stuff only to have to wait to get the film developed. I'm just too impatient.

So meanwhile I have a little Vivtar ViviCam that works decent but seems to be showing some age - about 1 in 10-15 shots somehow corrupts before I can get them out of the camera. And I hate that whole "digital delay" - say cheese -- wait -- wait -- wait -- there it is!

just too impatient in general for the technology I guess!

The only tip I can give is not to drop it...lol. Unless you want to know how to take lightning photos...I've been doing a lot of that lately.

Oh...and to be on the safe side, you could always just send it to me. I'll take good care of it! ;)

I can officially report that I now have a Rebel XT. If you are looking into one of those, I could offer up some advice and help. So far I am LOVING it to no end. The only thing I have learned is that splurging on the image stabilizing lenses would probably be a good thing, if one has the money to spend on them. I don't have very steady hands (who does at 300mm?), so it would be nice to have them. But for now, I must save all my cash for a house...
