Interactive cards

A typical ltc is a tiny rectangle of art. But sometimes people get really creative and make their cards"interactive". The card opens or wiggles or "pops" or something else.

So what are some ways to make a card interactive?

Probably the simplest is to make it fold like a greeting card. It can open from the side or the top, or even the bottom. It can fold in half or thirds. The front card can cover the back card completely or partially or have a cutout shape.

Pulling from my experience with making greeting cards interactive:

You could put a 'sliding feature' on an LTC - cut a small slit longways in the LTC - put your cut out image on one side of the slit and a small tab on the back side - so you can pull/drag your cut out back and forth along the page - a car could race, a character can move, etc.

I haven't tried it yet - but now I might have to see if I could get it to work properly :) Thanks for the inspiration!

I know that I received one in a swap a long time ago that had a little sliding figure. It was such a fun card. I hope you get inspired enough to make one yourself.

I think the most interesting one that I made that folded was made to look like a book on the outside, then when you opened it, it had paper accordion folded like a paper fan with butterfly stamps attached to the folded paper like the butterflies were flying out of the pages. It had the words "Books give you wings" stamped inside.

I have done a few interactive cards.
1. My first one was for the "My hometown" tracker. I did a triptych card to get everything in that I wanted.
2. Another was for one of Ryan's long walks. I did a card that flipped open like a flip phone, then had another flap that opened to the side, to create an L shape. five of the six sides were treated like a front of a card, with stamps on them. The back was the traditional back of the card stuff.
3. I also was part of a SAR, were we created a card that had to be assembled. We were buddied-up with another person, who we sent all of our components to. We each made our set of cards, and mailed them to the organizer. It was fun to see what came back with our supplies compared to what we did with them.
4. Another tracker was created using a picture. much like a coloring page. it was cut up into 9 segments. We each received our 2.5 x 3.5 segment, not to be shared with anyone else in the group. we created our cards and then when we got the final mailing saw just what the "puzzle" was.

Each while different had its own type of interaction.

I've done multiple versions of 3 different interactive LTC folded cards; never ending, swing, and waterfall. They are fun to create and directions can be found on Pintrest. I discovered all these wonderful types of cards participating in an "It's Folded" tracker several years ago.
I also enjoyed making a 2 part sliding card with a lighthouse that you could pull to full height.

I really enjoy receiving interactive cards and hope someone follows this up with an appropriate tracker :)

I was the recipient of a card which opened like a cupboard, and when the doors opened, a ghost appeared and floated (via thread) across the opening. I don't recall what was in the cupboard, but that was where the stamped image was.

An LTC that we had fun making was a pop-up card.

My very first LTC was a pop-up card. I'll have to do that again some time.

I remember that swap - there were some amazing cards. I've done pop-up map fold cards several times, and also the never ending fold/flip card.

and another card ~ made long, long ago ~ featured a shaker box along with the stamped image. It was challenging to make the shaker boxes, but the result was pretty cool. It was so long ago, my stamp was really simple, but it's still one of my favorite cards.

I loved the card by Housepitality Hostess that was made with pennies. Here are some similar cards: https://pin.it/neltgvpjujcaza

I think Red Cruzader might have done a slider card that used pennies as well.

I'm looking for instructions on how to make a card that when you open it from the right, like a book, the image slides from left to right on the inside. I have some ideas for my card but can't quite get a picture of how to do it in my head.

TC, I've seen directions for this type of card on Pintrest and probably Youtube. It is some kind of window card. I'll see if I can find it.
