i just realized i put 2 new phone numbers in my cell with their trail names as opposed to their "real" name. Anyone else refer to LB peeps by their trail names in other instances? Like snail mail or email or...?

it depends on which ring of my circle they are in... but if they are in my phone - they are in by their REAL names because they are family at this point :)

I put people into my cell phone or email as whatever name I have. It is better to have a way to look them up than no way. I can add additional names to them later.

I have some boxers listed with trail names and some with real names. Just a couple days ago I went to call one of them and I had to go thru the entire address book because I had listed it with their real name and then I forgot what their real name was! Sucks to "start" getting old.

I usually use trail names because I don't know most real names, except in postals/LTCs, when they are sent to me with the address.

Trail Names 99%, I have about 4 letterboxing friends that I use real names because the 4 of us spend time together outside letterboxing,

But otherwise TRAIL NAME!

If in my correspondence with boxers they sign off with their real names I use it. If they sign off with their trail names I respect that.

I'm an odd one I suppose...."AQ - Trailname - Real name" is how I have my letterboxing friends sorted on my phone. Seems to be more and more AQ names n numbers...hah...sign that it's an obsession!

I do the same thing. AQ Trail Name - Real Name. Unless they were a friend before a letterboxing friend...then it's the opposite. It's how I knew the person first.

I take a photo of their sig stamp to use as their profile photo on my phone.
When talking to my LB friends, I use their "real" names .... but they are in my phone contacts with their trailname as their surname.

Pretty much everywhere I go, people point at me and yell "Wassamatta U!!!"

Everyone's listed by trail name for me.
I can remember trail names better than real names (although I stink at both).
Once I've gotten a trail name well learned and associated with a face then I can learn a real name.........

I use the NOTES section for things like real names, phones, things I might need to remember later

My phone started with geocachers numbers for "Phone A Friend" help (mostly receive for my hides) and I used trail names as that's listed on the cache page and makes it easier to look up when needed. Then did the same for letterboxers, unless I box with them then it's a mix of real names and trail names.

Trail names are unique, first names aren't!

I mostly refer to them as their trail name, unless their trail name includes their actual names. I even use their trail names when I think of them. Lol!

You're in my phone as Denise, but your company is Deniserows. That way, I never forget your name and trail name!

I have found that I use both names. First name and then trailname. Unless I know them really well, then its just their full name.

In a face-to-face conversation, it seems a little unnatural to me to call someone by their trail name. I mean, "How are you doing, Three Green Birds in a Tree 1582?" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue!

If I'm talking to someone about another letterboxer, I usually refer to the other letterboxer by their trail name, because the person I'm talking to might not know who "Carolyn" is.

I have a few boxers in my phone by trail name and a couple with a combination of trail name/real name. Lots of boxers that I have met at events, I have no idea what their real names are!

And I personally love getting mail addressed to my trail name--seems more personal, somehow, lol.

I have two friends I box with so know their real names. Two I can remember. Everyone else is a trail name that comes to mind first.

Names cause some confusion on my part when Mud (Kathleen) talks about boxers by their real names. From the look on my face, she knows she has to simplify it for me.

Depends on my relationship with them, and if I can remember their names. I'm horrible with names to begin with, so whatever sticks in my mind is what I call them. For those who make it into my phone I have them listed as :Name Trailname: just for extra measure. One other thing that I take into consideration is how they introduce themselves to me. If they just use their trail name, I'll try to respond in kind, but if they use their real name, I'll ask them what they prefer. That's just me though. :)

It is definitely trail names unless we have met, watched football in a bar in Boise or maybe if you are in a sports pool with me. Oh and of course if you can figure out my first name feel free to use it. Postal boxers only get a first initial. Hmmmmm, that could be a mystery postal theme some day?

Given that the yelling is usually accompanied by "waving" to me, with either 4 or 5 fingers bunched up (depending on the circumstances) ... I'd say they know me. Even if they don't.

Now that I've made some friends with letterboxers, I call them by their first name. But even that only came after years of tagging on Facebook. However, when I'm talking to my family, I refer to them by their trail name.

I have some close lb friends that I call by their trail names, like: Piggy, Dixie, Hope, then I have other close lb friends that I call by their real names. Funny how that works.
