My Rainy Day Adventure

Bicycle Dave and I were determined to "box" in spite of the pouring rain. A series of 8 no less. But we dressed with boots, raincoats, umbrella. Halfway through the umbrella turned inside out. We protected the logbook under our raincoats. But I was still thoroughly wet. No place to wipe my wet hands. After two hours we found all the boxes. To treat ourselves we went to a nearby restaurant with a letterbox. Before we were seated but after stamping into the letterbox, a fire broke out in the kitchen. The whole restaurant was evacuated. Alas back out in the rain again.

SWMBO and I once hiked a trail with a box at the end, all uphill. We took an umbrella just in case. Halfway up it started sprinkling. By the time with got close to the box, it was pouring so hard you couldn't see anything outside the umbrella we were sharing. Reading the clues, it looked like it was hidden up a rather steep embankment off-trail. I left SWMBO on the trail with the umbrella while I crawled on all fours up the embankment because I would have just slid down if I tried to do it upright. Searched from boulder to boulder, no box. Refused to give up -- I was wet already. Searched and searched and searched, no joy. Gave up, came back down the embankment -- and there's the box, just a step off the trail! Evidently misunderstood the clues! Spent a half hour trying to stamp in without getting the log book wet! Rehid, hiked back down the hill. At the car -- still pouring rain -- I was shivering pretty badly, so I stripped down to my skivvies, dried off with a towel under the umbrella, and jumped in the car and turned on the heat. Ah, good times!

Thanks, Kirbert. This made my day. It's been such a very long time since you've been naked (or nearly naked) on the boards.
