Right city, wrong country

I know the mapping of locations has it's challenges, including input errors and erroneous interpretations of what is entered. This one is amusing. Box is called "Circus Canada". Location says "Burning Springs Hill, Niagara Falls, ON". Not sure why, but on the map it does not appear in Niagara Falls Ontario, but instead in Niagara Falls NY.

Maybe this calls for a new attribute: Passport Required.

Perhaps you need to add "CA" after Ontario? Maybe the map assumes USA unless you tell it something different?

Good suggestion, so I tested that. Created a new listing and typed in "Niagara Falls, ON" as the location and hit the "Store" button to get the suggested matches. That returns "Niagara Falls, Niagara, Ontario, Canada" and the map marker is centered in the correct city and country.

So then I tried "Burning Springs Hill, Niagara Falls, ON" just like the listed box. This time I get "Burning Springs Hill, Niagara Falls, Niagara, Ontario, Canada" as the 1st match - sounds right, but if I look at the marker on the map, it clearly is not in Ontario but in New York!:

Yes the second match is the correct one but how?

So for kicks I put the same search term into Google Map (Burning Springs Hill, Niagara Falls, ON) and it comes back at the correct location, with no other options. Even a Google maps search for "Burning Springs Hill" returns the correct location.

After we planted a box just over the border in Quebec, we used the "passport" keyword and also made sure to strongly emphasize in the clues that you need a passport to get the box if you're coming from the States.

This would be an appropriate attribute if we were to assume that all letterboxers are from the USA. However, there are at least a few who would object to that assumption. As long as the listing correctly identifies the country and the pin is put at the correct location then people should be able to figure out if a passport is required.

However, if it is a multi-box series with boxes spread across a national border then this attribute would probably be very helpful. It should also be noted in the description.

And someone could name such a series "Border Jumpers".

I hope that is not the case, since I do consider myself to be a letterboxer (although I don't have any official documents or accreditation). And I am not from the USA.
But really it was a joke. Because you might be able to use a NEXUS card instead.

That's just it - the listing does identify the country, but for some reason the pin appears in the wrong country. That may be the country where 97.4% of AQ users are from, but in this case it is still the wrong country. Sorry about that :)

I think I saw something in the news about Canada invading the United States. They annexed the area last week. AQ stays up-to-date on these matters, but Google hasn't updated their maps yet. Because we're small, we're more nimble. =)

Yes, and John Candy was involved.
