Hi, I live in Bristol RI (not too far away), am a recently retired elementary school librarian. Several years ago I presented a family letterboxing program at the public library in the town I lived in before I retired. Teenagers are not my strong suit, but I would be glad to help you. I am not much of a carver, but could help you out with all other aspects. Send me a private message and we can work out the details.

I am too far away to be able to offer in-person help, but I have done a letterboxing presentation at a library before and I think it went well. We had:

A carving demo
Carving material and tools for the kids to make their own signature stamp
Various simple printed B&W images to use as ideas for the signature stamps
Some materials to make logbooks to do exchanges of signature stamps

A series of boxes planted in the library so the kids could find them - provided clue sheets printed from AQ
A few boxes planted outside the library for same

A handout on the basics of letterboxing, with URL links to AQ and LBNA as a take-away

It was fun, and at least one of the attendees has become a regular boxer in the area. Good luck with your program!

I did a presentation on letterboxing at our library for the summer reading program activities our first year into it.
After a basic run through of the hobby, we made the foam jar lid stamps ( they were younger kids, and I didn't have $ to purchase many carving supplies). I did hide 6 or7 stamps inside the library. the clues had to be found by using the computer card catalogue. So it also helped them learn where things are in the library.

We also made it an event. I invited area letterboxers and we had about 5 or 6 show up. Had a poster and a logbook as well. It was fun!

You should definitely enlist the help of HarmonyMA! I'm not available to assist you in person, but I do have a couple of library plantings you can check out. Here are the clue links:
Vero Beach, FL:
IRC Library - "Orange you glad you stopped by?"
Wakefield, MA:
The Lighthouse - Beebe Library
(This is a very special one which is close by. You might want to check it out for yourself if you have time!)

Hope that's helpful!!! ;o)

Have any of you ever presented a program at a library before?

I did a presentation on "The History of Letterboxing" at the LB-Con a few years back. Does the Library have a good Fire Insurance policy?
