When I click on Trackers (from the drop down menu under My Page), then click Joined--untagged ....
the order used to be launch date by closest date (So I could easily see which one was due next). Now the default is launch date by descending order (so now January's tracker is listed first). Am I missing the place to change my preferences for that, or is it a bug? (I know I can edit-search but I would prefer not to do that each time.)

I've never used that tracker list. I just go in my logbook and it gives them to me most recent first.

? I mean for ones i haven't carved yet. Some i haven't fully decided on either.

I have a 'favorite search' set to show trackers I've joined by launch date. If yours got turned around somehow, I think you can "edit search" and change the sort order to "launch date", then "save search". Or set up a new search with that order, and delete the old search.

I have been trying to get this back the way it was...in order by start date. Doesn't work for me.

I actually gave up and went back to basics. Notebook and made a list. I was afraid I would miss a start date other wise. Ugh!

Have you ever made the countdown list from the widgets?? It's wonderful! That's the only way I could keep track, and I made a link to each tracker page when I did it.

The descending launch date always been the default. There is no "launch date by closest date" sort option and never has been, although I could probably put together such a sort option at some point.

You could sort based by launch date in ascending order, then have the search only include trackers that haven't launched yet. That would give you a list of future trackers in the order they'll come due (but it wouldn't include trackers that have already started).

But in any case, I'm not sure I want to change the defaults. It certainly won't happen until I create the sort option you're requesting! =) Anyhow, you might want to embrace the "save a search" option to create exactly the search you want then save it rather than rely on the pre-defined defaults that AQ provides. That's the whole purpose for them--so you can create customized searches to meet your specific requirements.

I guess ascending is what i mean. For years it always showed me ascending when i click untagged. (I tag them as i send them, finish a swap, etc) - so when i clicked untagged trackers i could see what's due next at the top of the list (by send/recieve date). It only changed/flipped after the most recent update so now the tracker farthest awat (due January) is on top while the ones due sooner (august) ate at the end.... but i thought maybe i could change my preferences there and switch it back.

I guess I'll look into saving a search instead and see if that works. Otherwise I'll go back to paper too :/

You are correct Bee, that is how it was. I looked at it everyday!

That's the way I have always done it too. It was pretty handy to have that.

Ascending means that the smallest number is first--or in this case, the "smallest" (or earliest) date. I've never had AQ default to that because if you've been in 1000 trackers (for instance), your first trackers would always be at the top and it could require digging in several pages to get to the latest (and presumably most relevant) entries.

AQ has always sorted trackers with a descending date by default. The next tracker due might not be at the very top of the list, but at least it's probably on the first page of search results! =)

But I absolutely swear--this has always been the search order. I've never changed it. Not that it's impossible a bug in the code could have changed the sort order--but when I tried it, it was still sorting as expected with a start date in descending order.

The sort option you described has never existed, but there must be a demand for it given how many people seem to be agreeing with you! =)

Mine has switched as well - you aren't wrong. It used to be listed in ascending order by start date, and since I never chose that (wouldn't even know how to if I wanted to) - it was most certainly the default. In the last week since I have logged on, something changed, and now it lists them in descending order by start date. I actually prefer the change, because as was mentioned in a previous post, I would have to scroll past all the old and completed trackers in order to get to the current ones, so I like this better. But there most definitely was a switch.

I understand what you saying here but...I have always just checked untagged trackers to see what I have coming up. After I finished my cards I would then tag it 'waiting'...waaa laaa! But like I said before I have them written in a notebook and just cross them off as I complete them. Just really liked the old way better. FYI I could not have reset anything as I didn't set anything in the first place...that would be way above my pay grade. Lol

Yes. I tag stuff "sent" or "completed" so that everything else under "untagged" came up.

Obviously ascending isn't the right word. The current default says (desc) by it so i thought that's what it meant and that the other would be opposite (ascending). It confused me too. All i know is it used to be date order with what is coming up soonest at the top, but now it's upside down. :)

Looking through the code, I actually found something that looked like it was supposed to sort the untagged trackers in ascending order. Not sure how that got in there since I'd rather have old and retired boxes at the end of the list--but AQ was ignoring that command and sorting it based on the default settings (descending order of the list date). The other tag options were still sorting in ascending order, so the sort order is definitely inconsistent which isn't right.

So presumably, at some point, that setting did change, but I'm not actually sure when since I hadn't changed that code in months.

But, given that, I'll reverse the listing.

But I swear! I really hadn't changed anything with that setting in months! And I still think it's counter-intuitive to list the oldest boxes first when I'd be more interested in the newest boxes.... *shrug*

I see what you mean about being counter intuitive. Unless you are not trying to see the whole list of all trackers i ever joined, which is not what I'm doing :). After tagging my sent and completed ones then clicking on untagged and having the "oldest" on top, means oldest = the one due in two weeks. Newest on the bottom means the one not due until January is the "newest" and is lower on my current priority list and therefore at the bottom of the list.
