Greetings! Not sure how to handle this - someone recently planted a box right next to mine! I am honored that they liked the location but have been in tears due to their thoughtlessness. I spent weeks finding the Perfect location to plant and created a story around my series. (Did I mention this was my 1st plant?) At 1st I considered retiring the series but they really belong there... do I contact the encroacher...or just move the 1 stamp at risk??

A couple of things to consider:
-Is the other planter a new person? They might not be aware of the "no poaching" rule of planting too close to someone else's box
-Are there restrictions on your series? If so and the person doesn't meet those criteria they may not be aware that your series is anywhere near their box.
-Accidents happen. It could be a very innocent mistake.

I'd recommend if it truly bothers you and it isn't a case of the second question I asked, you reach out to them and see if it is any of the above. Generally people are pretty good about understanding others' feelings.

Thank you for your insight. It is someone newer to Letterboxing ( a 1st plant for them as well) and they may not be aware of the poaching rules!

I understand your issue and agree that it seems hard to deal with when somebody plants right on top (next to) one of your plants. One that happened to us, the other player even found our box, and they seemed to even use our same clues to find their box. Ours had been at this location for a few years before theirs and ours is still there. We did not offer enough of our concern to the other player, but it is still hard to except that they felt that it would be a good idea to use the same hide location as we had.

That's all you can do. Otherwise consider it a funny conversation piece. I would put a not on the clue to be aware there may be another letterbox nearby.

A few years ago I planted a letterbox within a foot of a micro sized geocache. I looked on the geocaching website, but it was coming up as across the park. And I looked in the area, but didn't see anytning. I found out a few months later that there's a geocache there. I sent a n9t to the geocaches owner a few times and no response so I just let it be.

It looks like the new planter found your series before they planted their series. I also noted that they have only been boxing for about two months. You should be flattered that they loved your location so much that they decided to plant for the first time there. I would assume they might not yet be up to speed on etiquette. If only one of the seven boxes in their series is in close proximity to one of yours, I think you can/should mention it to them. Just say you're glad they enjoyed your series and then politely ask them to adjust "only one" of their box locations. I don't think anyone wants to scare off new letterboxers, so you can also point them toward the glossary & code of conduct on AQ and let them read up for themselves.

Hopefully things will work out. Maybe there is potential here for new boxing buddies! At least the new boxers will be planting more boxes for you to find in the area and they already like yours!

First, planting next to a geocache means your letterbox is going to be discovered by a geocacher.

Second, it could be a puzzle or multi-cache (multi-stage cache). The good news is that these types of caches are found by more experienced catchers. This usually means that they'll (most likely) will leave your box, but you should still put in a note identifying what your box is.

Third, geocachers sometimes go inactive. They may have found some, planted some then drifted out of interest. However, with their cache still being active it will bring cachers by your box.

I figure that the first to a location should have claim on the location. Geocachers around my area have been good to move their geocache when informed that they planted near a letterbox. This geocache was there first.
