I don't really mind the fee or the drive (I live in Kennesaw) but not sure about the whole permit/letterbox idea. What if a person made an event box, submits the paperwork, and then doesn't get approved? Can they not bring their event box?

Out of curiosity, what are our other options of places to go for the event? I've only been boxing since this spring so I don't know about the other events/locations.

Not to step on anyone's toes but I was thinking about other places to hold the event if Gwinnett doesn't work out. I work at a museum up in Canton and I'll have to check with my boss but there's some chance we could use the building we're in for a meetup. There's a cemetery out back, a small town square out front, a larger park about a block away. There's also a nice old downtown area up and down the street we're on. A lot of places for temp boxes, some places for more permanent ones too. Downtown Canton is also right off 575.

I'll have to see how my boss feels about the idea, but if it's ok with her we've got a nice, large, free building to hold the event in and we could do a potluck or something.

Redcurl,

Not to speak for Big Red (although she lets me parent her child, so why not!), but if you have a location and the idea of plans, she probably wouldn't mind you saying "I'll do it!." Jingle Boxing is actually a strange event. It was initially just meant to be a one-time, small gathering of friends right before Christmas that ended up being a huge (like 80 people for the first one) event that has now spanned several years. I know that Isabeau (one of the original planners) has no problems with other people doing it and that she talks about how, if the event continues over the years, that she'd like to see it move to different towns and locations. Big Red and I have also already hosted and it was fun, but I have no problem seeing someone else step up and do it. Red can share her feelings, but I don't think she'll be devastated if she doesn't get to do it. :) And if you decide to take it on, feel free to ask us for advice/suggestions.

Scout Mom and I had it last year in Roswell and we planted enough permanent boxes to make it a worthwhile stop over for traveling boxers. So worth it. Will be glad to offer support for Canton.

Sorry, next town over. Chef Henry's is in Acworth. Either way, Canton would be great, and I can still go to see Chef Henry while I am over there!

Yeah, I love Henry's. Sometime when you guys are boxing here, we can meet up for lunch or dinner. I haven't seen you in about FOREVER!

Talked to boss about using the building, she say's it's ok as long as I'm there to keep an eye on everyone, it's during the day, and we all clean really well. I'm sure we can take care of cleaning up after ourselves. :)

We'd be there under the aegis of the Cherokee County Historical Society. It's a pretty big building and it'd be heated and lit in December. We'd have to be out around dark, but we could do a pot luck kinda thing. Like I said before it's a pretty huge building- there's a historic jail, historic courtroom, cemetery out back, park square out front, park a few blocks away, and it's a nice historic downtown area so lots of places to walk to besides how big the building is itself. It is used for offices and things besides the Historic Society and their Museum so we do have to behave ourselves, but I don't think that's going to be a problem.

What does everyone think?

I made an event for it! I picked the 14th since that seemed not too too close to actual holidays. Hope it works for everyone, let me know.

The 14th is fine for me but if you want to avoid conflicting with Elf and the holidays, after would give us something to look forward to after them. Thank you for doing this!

Redcurl, Thanks for carrying on the Jingle Boxing tradition.

I won't be able to make it on 12/7, but I'm sure a good time will be had by all.

(Legolas turns 16 on 12/7 and Gimli is playing Robin Hood in MCHS play, "The Somewhat True Tales of Robin Hood.")

Be sure to take plenty of pictures for Jingle Boxing #5. I can't wait to hear all about Christmas in Canton.

Polish Baker has had to cancel. Anyone up for meeting up earlier in the day in Canton? I am driving up from the south and even if it is raining we could do some drive bys.
