Owl Cheesecake
Board: Food For Thought

Hi! You all are so creative that I thought I'd ask for ideas. My brother asked me to make a 30th birthday cake for my sil. They love cheesecake and she loves owls. I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate owls that would taste good. The cheesecake is honey flavored with a nutty crust. Any ideas?

I would suggest plucking them before baking them into the cake. *nodding wisely*

Thanks for the reminder. Wouldn't want anyone choking on feathers. :P

Finely ground nuts and coconut arranged in an owl shape on top... or just big owl eyes! I am thinking that you'd get various shades of brown with different nuts to make a pretty picture.

Or just melt chocolate and use it to pipe the word "owl" on top. (oppa Cakewreck style)

*edit*
Ooh! Just get some fondant and make your owls. (Google "owl cake" images for ideas) Just be sure the cheesecake is dry before you put them on.

I did see the fondant owls, but I wasn't sure how they would taste with cheesecake. They are really cute. An owl made from nuts sounds tasty.

Bakeries can often do the edible photo paper. Feel comfortable asking a local bakery or even grocery store bakery to see if you could just buy the edible photo paper?

Usually you have to give them the photo or PDF that you want made into an edible image. Just make an image like you would for a stamp and see if you can get that printed on edible paper.

Once the cheesecake is done, place the paper on top. You could always pipe a trim and extra words on after that.

Just a thought.

If that doesn't work, you can try an Acetone Transfer.

I'm here to help!

Just to be clear, the bakeries print on the paper with edible inks. So you'll need them to do the printing.

I know this seems intuitive, but I don't want to be held responsible for food poisoning :P

Well, I'm no Cake Boss, but here it is: http://www.atlasquest.com/gallery/viewphoto.html?gPhotoId=114207 I used pecans for the body and almonds for the belly and eyes. It's not perfect, but I hope she likes it.
