I just got some carving tools that I ordered off eBay, and they came with a surprise partially used block of carving material. It is white in color and is marked with pen in the way ones I have ordered from Stampeaz have been marked in the past. It has the letter B written on it in neon pink. Does anyone know what type of material it is?

It may be a piece of the old PZ Kut B. If it is, count yourself very lucky indeed!

I was able to find Coming out of the dark if that was yours. In April 2017.. one was unable to get to as the area by the caves was closed at the time. :(

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park is located in Cross Creek FL. The home there is furnished just as Rawlings had it when she wrote her Pulitzer Prize-winning novels “The Yearling,” and “Cross Creek".

Would someone care to carve a stamp for me to plant here?

Just the stamp, we will take care of backing, logbook, cozy and box.

Regarding stamp size, if the image would fit on half of a index card that would be perfect.

No particular time frame but would like to have planted by Thanksgiving if possible.

We do not live close by but are in this area often, at least once a month in regards to maintenance.

The image would be up to you as long as themed to Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings or one of her books.
If there is offer of more than one stamp would not turn down, would make it a series!

https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Marjorie-Kinnan-Rawlings

As of right this minute I do not have permission to plant onsite but I do plan on asking...If am told no, will plant near by. There are sanctioned geocaches on property so want to make sure not planting close to one of those!

Is there a way to conduct a search for mystery boxes by State, County or region ? It seems awhile ago you could, now my search shows a numeric- alpha sequence with traditional/mystery boxes intermingled. Not real user friendly IMHO. Thanks in advance.

By state, go to Letterboxes on the toolbar at the top of this page and hover. Then choose city directory and click on the state you wish. Select the Big Blue Question mark out side of the state's boundaries. Here's what comes up on Maine: https://www.atlasquest.com/results.html?typeId=1;location=ME%2C+US;rad=20;subFlags=0;status=9;attribs=2

I thought, by definition, mystery boxes do not disclose a starting location, except perhaps within the clue (which may be a cipher, code, or puzzle)?? So how does AQ pick them out in a search for a specified area? Is that only if the planter enters a state or county in the location box? I have seen mystery listings that say "worldwide" or some such, which I thought was a default meaning basically "unknown"?

If the location is nothing more than a county, state, or country it can still be a mystery box because the location is too vague. Not sure if you can make a city mystery box.

If you run a search for all boxes in a country, state or county, it returns all boxes in the specified area. But if you also include the option to only return "exact" matches, a distance of 0, or the icon for 'mystery boxes only', you'll get just mystery boxes within that region. Each of those options are slightly different from each other--they aren't 100% interchangeable.

There's more information about how to run mystery searches in the help pages.

You can make a city mystery box, but AQ can't tell the difference between an actual city-wide mystery and a box where someone just listed the city as a location for a non-mystery, so AQ doesn't distinguish between the two at the city level.

Hmmm, next April...I will have to figure out if I will be around to put together an event. I held a fun gathering in Moab in 2005, and it is certainly is about time to do it again...

Next April we are going on a rafting trip in the Grand Canyon for a couple of weeks, but I don't know the dates yet. Also, my daughter graduates high school at the end of the month, so I don't know what I might be involved with on that.

I'll see what I can do in the next couple of months! :)

I'm still a little wet behind the ears, boxing-wise, so I hope it's ok to ask this here. I'm still trying to understand mystery boxes. I ran across this box listing quite by accident while searching for something else.

Is this a "normal" mystery box? I'm not asking for help or hints but curious if there is info there that I'm overlooking.

To me, that looks like either a bonus box or a word-of-mouth box that someone didn't put attributes on. Nevertheless, someone with more experience could come up with some other ideas.

Is this a "normal" mystery box?

The fact that there isn't a clue automatically makes it "not normal." =)

But I'll say that given the fact it hasn't been found since it was "planted" 5 years ago, there's no clue listed, and the person who listed the box hasn't logged in for two years, I'm going to mark the listing as retired so it stops showing up in people's search results.

What the box really is is hard to tell without additional information. It could be a mislabeled WOM box, a mislabeled bonus, a box that the person intended to plant but never got around to (although that shouldn't be happening at all!), or maybe it's a real box and the person forgot to include the clue.

There's just not enough information to know for certain.

The box looks like it was part of a tracker of some sorts - a project that never came to fruition? The other boxes listed in the tracker are all 'mysteries', with no finds, and retired. I guess the story behind this listing is the real mystery <g>

Thanks for the shout-out, Miss Minstrel, but BB3 and I aren't part of the Greatful committee - we just show up and crash on Pete's site every year. I think my greatest contribution might be tending the fire occassionally and causing mischief here and there, but I don't think that really counts as help. ;) I just don't want to take any credit here, because the credit goes to all the others you mentioned.

And they do deserve the credit! It always amazes me what they come up with. The clues, the poles along Greatful Row, the nightboxes, decorations. All in all, our favorite event of the year, and I'm greatful for every year we've been able to attend. So thank you to all the true admins for all you do each year - AND for letting me sleep in in each morning. Though this year was way off whack for normal, but that wasn't your fault. But no worries there either. I'm blaming work for that, and I'm already raining down my typical mischief and chaos there...

Yep, it is going to be fun ......at least for all your foreigners coming to Texas!!!!! We even saved you from having an August event which would have been 100 degree heat. As Open Space said - much more details will be released soon, as she has been working on this for almost a year now. Can't wait to meet some new Letterboxers!
