That is funny. I can't get more than a few games in a row without having to start a game over. I tried one time to play free cell with a deck of cards while camping once. I couldn't do it. I am too used to the computer making my moves for me.

I was just reading the posts and decided to put in my 2 cents, or maybe penny with inflation. What is just as bad is when you get no answer. I have to remind my 9 y.o. grandson and his friends all the time. It's like you're just expected to thank them, but they don't need to acknowledge it.

I read these articles (both the outdoor weblog one, and the Anderson Cooper press release one) and am I the only one outraged at the lack of consideration for the box?

I mean, in the Anderson Cooper press release box, they tell you EXACTLY how to get to the box! Evidentally, they did not consult letterboxers or even think about the safety of the box in question. This person CLEARLY has no clue!!!!! (This is the reason why our hobby is very word of mouth and not publicized on a consistant basis)

As for the outdoor weblog one, will ALL letterboxers become geocachers? The arrogance of this person to suggest as much is sickening to me. I am NOT a geocacher by trade. I don't GO OUT looking for geocaches. Sometimes I find one mostly by accident or with Bluebird, and log it on the geocache website, but I AM NOT A GEOCACHER! Yes, there are similarities (the whole hiding a container in the woods thing), but they are not remotely the same!

I'm so sorry for the person who planted the Anderson Cooper box that their box went missing. It's too bad that irresponsible journalism seems to be the reason for it.

i couldn't figure out how to sign into your logbook, but did look at the clue. that is what i meant, no actual log book but logging it online. why not just use AQ for the "book". counting it as a find.

that does sound like a cool LB. Wish I could give it a go, but I live a bit far from NY.

It's intriguing how it's human nature to want to leave a mark, something that says I was here. Look at the initials in trees, public picnic tables, school desks as well as graffiti. Even though there's a good chance that the logbook will disappear - muggled, damaged by nature, never retrieved by the owner of the box, retrieved and thrown out, or retrieved and placed in a drawer never to be viewed again we still feel compelled to leave our mark. And even though the proof that we found a letterbox is the stamp in our personal journal we still feel compelled to leave a mark of proof of our visit.

I'm sorry to hear that you had trouble. If you have not already done so, let the planters know which ones you've had trouble with. I know Year of the Dog and Kabutagani are missing of mine.

Last year was our first year and we dragged, I mean took along (LOL!) our 2YO Son, who is now 3 1/2 and will be starting his own logbook soon. This sounds like a fun idea!

I have a problem with a number of things.

Number one, it only mentions that they list clues on LBMA, but the clue points to Atlas Quest.

Number two, it seems odd to me that so many GEOCACHING websites reference the same box. Yes I know that they all reference the same article. But the original article isn't about geocaching at all. Then all of these cache websites pick up on this article and run with it. (There's actually another link to it too, but I couldn't readily find it.)

Number three, one of this placer's boxes (refer to my original post) was turned into a geocache.

Draw your own conclusions, but this seems a little wierd to me. I may be drawing inferences where none exist.

I'm a little miffed because I know the boxes they referenced in the article (I'm talking about the BoB series and such), I've met some of their placers (in fact they were pretty much my introduction to boxing and helped form a lot of my views on it) (*waves at you wonderful Philly area boxers*) and know that they would probably not want their WONDERFUL creations publicized in an article.

That one game that is supposedly impossible to win is #11982. I cannot say that I have played every one of the 30.000 plus games, but I have tried this one - I would agree that 11982 is impossible . . . for what it is worth.

My developement team does that when we have to meet with Directors (especially when off site Corporate Directors, or equivalent) are in attendance.

Sometimes it is very amusing and the only thing that keeps us awake. We do not stand up and shout or leave the room, but it can be hard to keep composure.

Well, Hiro did visit Peter on the Subway, before Peter knew he could take others powers. So in theory, if all he has to do is meet someone he should have adapted Hiro's powers on the subway, which is funny when you consider the trouble he had getting to Texas to save Claire.

Just to get the juices flowing, if Molly could kill Peter, can she do it before he adapts her power? In addition, how is the Haiten (I know its spelled wrong) able to "block" Peter's power? Shouldn't Peter be able to absorb his ability as well?

I don't think that it can be surmised that it was the publicity that caused the box to disappear, since there was quite a gap between the news release and the suspicious rise in hits. Here's what the webpage says:

The article was written months ago and the box survived the rest of the Fall season, the Winter season and half of the Spring season. Looks like the owner will replace the box and continue the fun. They may want to put an F1 (or more) restriction on it if they feel it was publicity that was the culprit, it may deter some nefarious types. But personally I would recarve and replant, and check off the 'hide from search engines' box. If it happened a 2nd time I'd either retire it or put an F restriction on it.

In the wise words of Rick Simpson (posted on the LBNA discussion group):

"... we all put a lot of time and energy into our boxes, and we should realize that once you plant a box, you loose control. It's no longer a personal keepsake. It's not on a shelf in your house. Your box takes on a life of it's own. It's constantly interacting with the elements, animals and other boxers. Things can and will go wrong, but things also go wonderfully right most of the time.

The whole LB community is based on a gift of sharing with strangers, which inherently has risk. There is no reward without the risk."

I am just getting so excited about Monday's!!! I wish they could have shown us more of that battle between Peter and Sylar!! I almost wish they wouldn't show us scenes from next week, so I would be able to concentrate on other stuff for the rest of the week.

She came home on Saturday night! About the same exact time she went missing. We finally got some calls off of our fliers and ads that made us think she was on her way home. We went looking again for her based on the tips but found nothing, so we put all sorts of stuff out for her, a bowl of food and some of our clothes and the wide open screen door. My fiance went out to get a drink in the kitchen and she was meowing at the door. He yells loud for me and since he's accident prone I went running (just getting a drink does not mean he couldn't be hurt... clumsy, clumsy, lol) and he just put her in my arms and I broke down sobbing. She took it well, lol and he's like, why are you crying? Because I was so damn happy!!!!!
She was filthy and stinky and we had to cut things out of her tail. She's lost about 2 lbs as well, which is a lot for her! She has some weird stray white hairs now and is very jumpy, so we think she had some bad scares or something, but she's home.
She has not left my side, if I'm home, she's right there with me. Keeps following me everywhere and has slept in the crook of my arm next to my heart every night.
Thanks for all the encouragement and support guys, it really helped me thru and yay!!!! We had a happy ending after all.... and she has a new collar and they will both be getting the id implants I think as well.

Sigh...Am I the only one who is actually alarmed at this thread and perhaps, trend? Have I become inflexible in my thinking? I am a logbook junkie and the logbook is one of the more intriguing things of this hobby for me. To me, it is a historical document...and that is why when a box goes missing, my heart skips a beat...not because I have lost a good stamp but because I have lost that physical, real, paper and ink document that told me who came and went from that box.

I understand that everyone plays differently and I am not a "nay sayer" of new ideas and such...in fact I have placed letterboxes without a logbook in series, because of the same reasons...I felt the box was too small. In fact, it is nice to have a variety of boxes out there and available to find. I only sigh because I don't want this to become the way of the world.

I understand the necessity of sometimes leaving a logbook out of a box but I, for one, will try to place a logbook with every box. Especially for all of those who are compelled to leave their mark, as Lone R noted.

I am with you on this one. I hope this doesn't become the norm. I don't think it will.

The logbooks are my treasures. My first plant went temporarily missing (crazy story) after it's first find. The particular finders do not have accounts on AQ or LbNA, and I had seen their images elsewhere -- almost always first finders. So, when the logbook was lost, that was it. They haven't found any of my others, and now I'm without a record at all. It was a bit sad.

I was also thinking about all of those who would not log the find at all if they were left to online logbooks. More than half of the finders of my boxes don't log finds online. I'd never know . . .
