PS...I LOVE the idea of it stretching over several days! I saw some requests for longer hikes, and this would allow me to do that...there's an 8 mile hike at Lake Kissimmee that I have in mind :)

So, what we need is a web page of "Guidelines for Planting Letterboxes in Florida", with tips like these:

Don't plant within Walt Disney World or other theme parks.

Use only high-quality containers; cheap plastic breaks down in the sun and heat.

Don't rely upon stumps or deadwood for landmarks or hiding spots; they decompose too fast here.

If planting on vacation, post a note on the Florida board asking for someone to adopt your box.

Did anyone lose a compass at Bunker Boxin'. I did; and it was sent to me. BUT: it isn't mine. It is just a plain clear compass, but the owner drilled a hole in the corner of it and put a YELLOW cord through it so it can be worn around the neck.

If it is yours, let me know and I can send it to you. Pass the word.

I just put a "no circulars" sticker on my mailbox (called a "letterbox" here, but if I said that on these boards, I thought it might confuse people). The post office here doesn't deliver junk mail to you if you have a "no circulars" sticker.

Our family is *REALLY* loving this new series. We've kept every episode on our DVR. Cracks me up, because it's so much so my family. Especially the jousting on the couch, hahahaha!

Yeah, though I don't like hime, he's playing the game.
But, those girls may just oust him with a blindside if he's not careful.

He still has that idol that he can use AFTER the votes are read, so no blindside on him yet.

I am beginning to hate this season just because of him. The girls need to get together and force his hand. Forget the alliance, Ladies. You stick with that alliance? Just quit and hand him the money now.

It is just me or does it seems as though there is nothing but wind between Woo's ears?

I agree with Gina. (NotMyCircus) I will probably still plant a token box or 2 on PAL Day. Just to join the fun.

But I also like Nov. or early Dec. for planting, for the same reasons.

As for "competing" I say this is just to inspire us to improve our numbers, not a contest. I think we are all cool with that. So if this year we can hit 50 boxes, we are probably doubling last year. Having more planters here in winter is helpful for us. And then try to increase by say 10% or more per year. As we have more boxes, and people improve their clues, boxes and carving, this will hopefully become more popular here.

I personally, would also encourage the geocachers to plant hybrid boxes. I know we have several who also geocache, due to lack of letterboxes. I want to recruit more like-minded geocachers over to letterboxing, keep our boxes safe by educating, and this is a good way.

Kudos to Geogirl, who has a geocaching store with some letterboxing items and a letterbox.... I still need to check that out!

I think in the past few years we have breathed some new life into letterboxing in Florida. Let's keep up the good work! :)

This compass was found right next to Ele's "Love is Blind Box". Not many people have found it at least according to the logbook. Hoping it belonged to CC but unfortunately it's the wrong one. :/

That is what we, in the counseling profession, call Criminal Thinking. It may not hurt a lot of people, but it isn't right just the same. I am one to have it every now and then.

I think it is a great idea. (as a former Florida resident...) some other ways to get away from too much competition, but still have goals....some other states have done things like try to have a stamp in every county (Arizona)...or even every town (New Hampshire did that one back in the day.....everyone got together and made stamps for every incorporated town in the state and they planted them all...this was back when Connecticut was the King of the letterboxing world and they were just trying to get the Conn folks to plant more boxes in New Hampshire!! :-) In Washington State, we are trying to do the every town thing right now. We especially want to get more boxes out into the Eastern part of our state. One of the things we talk about is how folks get involved in letterboxing. When they hear about it, the first thing they do is look up their hometown on AQ and when there are NO letterboxes near them. They immediately lose interest. Our goal was to make sure that there is at least one letterbox for folks to find !! Another way folks find the hobby is by finding a letterbox by mistake. So we just want to spread those boxes further a field. We have challenges to have boxes in more parks around the state and not just in the Seattle area.

I checked the 'finds' list, too. I am thinking that someone dropped it on that particular trail, not necessarily getting Ele's box. I could use a new compass, if nobody claims it. I really did lose mine, too.

I hope someone replies.

it would be really nice if it didn't interfere with the annual "Love Those. . ." event my sister puts on. It's swiftly becoming our event, since she gets great ideas, then calls me in to plant them and clue write. i like this division of labor. ;-)

Anyway, that event is always the weekend closest to Valentine's Day. Any other weekend, and have at it. thank you.

All Burpee plants from $3.16-$3.68 are on sale 5 for $10 or $1.99 each. I just stocked up and won't be needing to grow anything from seeds this year! I'm gonna try a strawbale method this year for a fabulous little tomato/pepper/herb garden with some other stuff in there too. Wish me luck!
