More boxes in Florida would be a wonderful thing, as Floridafour said, we don't have many boxers to begin with, less that plant and carve, but we get lots of transient boxers. Boxing tourists, here for sun, sand, and to ponder how anyone lives here in the summer.

Sorry I cannot be there to join in honoring Safari Man but I will be there in spirit. I can only imagine what he might say about being honored in such a wonderful way. So nice of Brenda, Sandy and Chris to do this for Glenn. I hope everyone has a wonderful time and that Glenn does his part in getting cooperation up there with the weather!! Maybe Jan is helping, too and has some popcorn ready!! Enjoy the weekend to all. Glenn made a huge difference in our neck of the woods and in many other states as well!

ponder how anyone lives here in the summer.

the same way people live in northern New England in the winter, only in reverse. i had a guy in my church once, from Kissimee, who used to tell me that northern VT and FL were exactly the same, except for the months. In VT, you don't see your neighbors from Nov - March. In FL, you don't see your neighbors from April - November. made perfect sense to me.

I can possibly meet up with you on Wednesday at SMP after I get off work at 6 o'clock. That's a fine time for swimming or kayaking!

Or if water activities are not possible, I'm happy to walk up the mountain with you at dusk. But I might be wearing a mask to block out pollen.

I can't make Tuesday evening. But hope to meet you and exchange on Wednesday.

Howdy!
I'm doing a trip search - starting in my town and ending near the place I'm going - it is showing boxes I have already found. Used to be a button to click to not show them but it is gone???? Did miss it or did it go away with the last update?
Thanks! Crewel
Ok so I found where the buttons are but I have them clicked and it is still showing ones I found {I was freaking out thinkng I had missed logging them}

When you create an LTC, do you come up with an idea for the stamp/ card design before you start carving. Or do you carve your idea for the stamp then try to create a card based around the stamp. I have seen some very unique cards and i am trying to steer clear of the flat peices of cardstock that i keep creating. I want to try something new, hip and cool. But i have no ideas! Where do you ( the ltc community of cardstock genius come up with your ideas?

Have you looked at the LTC trades and trackers, for themes? Also try looking at some examples of other LTCs. I also look at Artist Trading Cards, of which there are several websites, and mixed media and art journal websites. If you want to focus on just the carve, try looking at pictures of woodcuts, or even try to trace a watercolor painting of the subject you like. It gives a nice sketchy loose feel. It really all depends on your subject.

I usually look at the trackers, and then carve something based on that. But if I am carving a series of letterboxes, I might make LTCs from those. I do prefer animals and nature, and sometimes people. I like to carve images that aren't too detailed, because then I feel in can do more to decorate the card, paint or add layers of paper to the carve, or paint a background. But that's just me.

My most recent carve is very detailed, and I am struggling for how to make it look more fun.

I too struggle with creative ideas. Youtube videos are a place to start. Tim Holtz, from Ranger Industries is a good source of ideas.

I've done it both ways. Sometimes a good idea pops into my head when I read the description of the swap. Other times, I find an image, carve it, then work from there.

Got a flyer from a local chain of bookstores in the mail today and among the books they mentioned was one that I have recently listened to while walking. If anyone was looking they would have seen me with a smile on my face most of the time. Sometimes I was laughing out loud. I was listening to "The Girl who Saved the King of Sweden" by Jonas Jonasson.
My version was in Swedish, and I don't know if the translation is good or not, but it is a very, very funny book.
This is what it says in the flyer " In a shack in a township of South Africa, Nombeko Mayeki is born. Put to work at five years old and orphaned at ten, she quickly learns that the world expects nothing more from her that to die young. But Nombeko has greater plans. She learns to read and write, and at just fifteen, using her cunning and fearlessness, she makes it out of Soweto with millions of smuggled diamonds in her possession. Then things take a turn for the worse…"

I just checked one of the trips I mapped, the National Road, and there is a large check box showing the options to hide "found" boxes. I unchecked this box and the results listed all the boxes along the route. Try checking your parameters and distance along the route (ie, more than 0 miles from route.)

Updated response: did you save the search with the old parameters? Try re-saving it to override/replace the old saved search. Or start over.

Thanks. They are having a good moment and plan on going to Dollywood on Monday. They figure they better go now before they get sicker. When they asked us to join them we couldn't say no. We are currently in virginia beach for a conference so Sunday will be a long day of driving.

The good new is I get to get letterboxes in 2 other states!!!!

That's totally true. Summer is my winter here. Although, like winter up north, I have learned to adapt over the years. Summer is great for swimming, winter is for skiing. But you won't see me out boxing past 11am from June to Oct.! So when I do go, I just grab one or two at a time. I love to plant in fall, and then have all the tourist season for people to find my boxes. :)

...but we get lots of transient boxers.

So we need to figure out how to get transient boxers to plant boxes. Many boxers still don't like to plant while on trips because they won't be around to maintain those boxes. So, how about a volunteer program: You plant a box while you're here, and we'll adopt it!

Another idea: While you're here, if you get an idea for a box and/or a stamp image, take digital photos. Carve the stamp after you get home, then ship it to one of us down here with instructions on where to plant it. We'll list both you and us as planters, and we'll maintain the box.
