Long Trail boxes?
Board: State: Vermont

Thread Board
I'm planning a NOBO Long Trail hike starting August 1st (with a secret hope for a yoyo, if I don't run out of time and/or money and/or leg strength).

And, of course, because I have Letterboxing Sickness, the first thing I planned out after gear but before mail drops and resupply points was possible boxes along the trail.

This is my hit list so far. Does anyone have any other boxes along the LT to recommend??

Green Mountain High Letterbox
The Long Trail
February Five Domino
Rockin' Deer
Long Trail Ale
The Letterboxing Fool on the Hill
James P. Taylor
Mr. Frimble
Love Doggy
Mad River Glen
Crashed Landing Letterbox
Vermont Quarter
Be Prepared! Camel's Hump -- Vermont
Top of Vermont
Top of the Notch
Lamoille Bridge Letterbox (?missing?)
Vermont State Symbols Series
Belvidere Mtn Firetower
Timbuktu

"Crashed Landing" is off of the Monroe trail so you'll have to take a bit of a diversion to get that one. I'll try to verify the status of the Belvidere Fire Tower box before you leave; no one has found it and I don't know if it's still there or not. I've been thinking it's time for some maintenance for awhile.

What day are you leaving?

we have 6 cats. 3 of them are white. the trick is to buy lint rollers by the case. a lint roller a day keeps the cat hair at bay. lol

Just saw that we're back to going to e-mail page when we link through Friends on Line widget.
Also, just noticed a title bar saying "Update" at the top of a message.

I miss being able to go to the personal page rather than to mail.

That is so great that you are trying to list the LT boxes! In 2008 my dh and dd did the LT. Since they wanted to make good time on the LT, they were not interested in any boxes on spur trails - only ones right on the trail and they couldn't spend time backtracking or really hunting around for boxes. They needed obvious ones with clues going in their direction (SOBO).

I had a hard time trying to figure out which boxes were along the LT because in general clues start from a given parking lot on a spur trail. Which means first you have to find parking lots near the LT and then you had to read through each clue to see if the box would actually be on the trail. Then see if the clues make sense from their direction. I didn't have much time or patience for that. I asked on the boards for requests and just came up with a few. (2008 thread) They ended up only finding "Lookout Below" in Clarendon and "Mad River Glen--Ski it if you can!" Mad River Glen was a funny one because it was planted in the winter when there was snow. My 6'1" dh could barely reach it in the summer.

I know there is lots of info on hiking the LT, but if you have any questions about it feel free to ask.

Best to you as you research lbs for your trip and prepare for your hike! It is a great hike!

A bit overwhelmed...

I'm hosting my fist event and it's less than a month away.
I have a location, theme, tons of people coming, a raffle, episodes to play, and temporary boxes ready to be planted.

I guess I'm just a bit overwhelmed that I might be forgetting something...

I'm also a bit confused on how to list my event stamp and series.
The series will be temporarily planted at the location and then perminatly planted somewhere else. Do I list it as a traditional box series and add the new clues and location later? I plan on giving out the on site clues as people arrive so that there isn't a flock of people searching for the boxes...

Does anyone have any tips for a first time event holder?

I love your sig stamp. I have looked at it previously & just thought I'd tell you.

I will be in Fayetteville, east of Gettysburg, on the 4th. But will be tied up with traveling so no boxing. Sorry to be of no help.

I would list the boxes for the event as a traditional series, and then retire it and list the series again
but make note that it was used for such and such event so that
people who already have the images can decide if they want to get
them again.

so. found soggy logbook in woods. *this* time, i remembered not to just let it dry out and get all crinkly, i stuck it in the freezer.

now what do i do with it???

i really want to preserve this one, as the owner spent some real time making it.
