Actually got it planted & clues up all in the same 24 hours....

If you seal the pencil transfer with stazon yellow, the pencil image won't smear and you can still see it clearly to carve.

Okay I do not get this please explain, why stazon? Does it stay on the pencil or the non carved part?

The StazOn stays on all of it; it's a permanent ink. You can still see your lines, but they'll be tinted the color that you use. I can show you some transfers next week if you remind me.

I added all of the boxes missing from my collection to my logbook. There are so many to choose from but a real fun series was the "Angry Bird" series and some really great carves that I enjoyed were the "Do You Wanna...?" series.

Thanks for that advice! I'm headed through there in October and was sort of overwhelmed by that huge pocket of boxes in there, as I know I can't stop for long on my way through to Cleveland.

There's a number of different ways to transfer an image to your block.

The simplest transfer is by pencil. You draw or trace your image into a piece of paper with a soft pencil, like a #2. Then, you put the image face-down on your block and rub the back with something like a spoon or a folding bone. The pencil mark will come off on the block. The Staz-On ink is sometimes used to seal the pencil so it doesn't rub off while you're carving.

In the past, I used to make a toner-based photocopy, put that face-down on the block, and color the back with a Dove blending marker. The xylene in the marker would cause the toner to release from the paper, and it would stick to the rubber. Some use wintergreen, and even others use a small iron, because heat will cause that too, though it can blister your block if you're not careful. The newer the photocopier, the less likely that this method will work well, as newer copiers seem not to release the fused toner as well.

Kirbert has some great information on his web site about using baking parchment to transfer an image printed from your inkjet printer, and that is the method I use now. It's just so precise when you have a detailed image that tracing can't hope to represent well.

i just dump them. when we find them we have to stamp them. it appears dumping is normal here.

I have a photo of Stazon over a parchment paper transfer. Probably not the best example since the images transferred are small words.

I changed my 'Big Bang Theory' calendar to August this morning and had a good laugh. It shows Raj and Sheldon sitting on the couch. Yesterday I actually used both pencil and chemical (acetone in my case) transfer on one stamp. I wanted part to look sharp so I drew it on the computer. The part I wanted to look like it was hand drawn I just drew on the paper. I rubbed to transfer the pencil first then acetone to transfer the toner.

Get outside and plant! At least go and find something.

I almost put this in the mystery board, but I don't know that the plant(s) I am thinking of would be mysterys... Maybe, but I'm guessing that with how hard of a time I am having coming up with a place to hide... well, any one looking for the box(es) in questions would have that much more difficult of a time, so figured I would try here.

Two staples of my childhood [and many of you on here as well] have all but disappeared...

One, and a less obvious one... The photo booth. These have been making a comback in a digital form... but the new ones with the larger pictures, and the fancy effects you can add to the picture [or words]... just isn't the same as the old fashioned little strip that you could use as a book mark.

The phone booth. I don't mean pay phones in general. I mean the close the door for privacy telephone booth!

I am thinking it would be fun to attempt to find phone booths to make a hide around [or "in" by using a magnetic box.]. I know a few months back I saw in older phone booth, where the booth is built into the wall, and the booth has a chair to sit while talking. I don't even remember where this was though [other than indoors which is not what I want to attempt a hide there].

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to find out where phone booths are [or for that matter older style photo booths, although the more I think about it those seem more risky to base clues off of, these are much more mobile]? I have been looking, and I can find a few websites that show ones that are in unusual places[and even these sites are dedicated to "pay phone" vs. "phone booth"]. But I want to find a way to know where to find a pay phone that is in a booth. I know where one used to be in Vermont, about half way from Bennington to Brattleboro, and if travel to NH again soon I may try to plant a box on my trip.

I am not even looking just for my general area [hence not posting in the New York board], as I do travel to most of the New England states to visit family, so an interesting enough phone booth in a neighboring state would be worth visiting to plant a box at.

A part of me thinks a magentic box inside a booth may be fun... but depending on the location of said booths using the booth as a starting point for a small stroll would be just as fun. [think a rest area hide. "Stand with your back to the back of the booth [fill in rest of clue]".

Thanks in advance for anyone with even some slight hints. Google is turning up some interesting websites [with some cool pictures of places that might be fun to visit no less].... but nothing helpful enough for this particular need yet...

Tell you the truth, I can remember what I do. I think I stamp them. But if you stamp them in the box you place them and others come along and stamp in the books behind it and don't take the HH, then the person who takes it may stamp it again without looking through the book. Not everyone looks through the log books. Hmmmm? I will have to pay more attention to what I do and make sure I stamp it in both books if it has not been stamped yet.

7-11 stores often have phone booths... But I haven't seen an old style one for a long time...

Bus stop shelters and newspaper stands are my "magnetic go-tos".

Photo booths I've seen have all been indoors at touristy places, sometimes at malls.

While mine are all ready... I confess that I picked one up in a hurry last week...my tour guide was calling everyone back...and I don't know if it was already stamped into the box.

Try an Amish community. Charm, Ohio has a two-doors (two pay phones) in the middle of town, right along the sidewalk. Some of the builders (in the Holmes Cty area of OH) of small wooden buildings (sheds, etc.) are now making single and double door wooden "phone booths".

Depends....often if I'm not sure how its going, I will stamp it in a light color to check it...

I'm getting so I don't have to do it anymore until near the end.

Greenlawn is a fantastic cemetery to visit and to box. I strongly suggest taking the time to map out a route before hand if you want to maximize your boxing time. In the past, I have printed out a section map (think I even splurged and had it enlarged at the copy shop--it was a major boxing day for us) and plotted the boxes in advance, then penciled in our driving route. If I Recall correctly, we boxed from open to close and did manage to clean out the cemetery, BUT this was a couple of years ago and we had visited at least twice before!!

Sounds like it is time for another trip to our Capitol city--now that I think about it, there is one box that has eluded me three times.....
