I agree! I had a great time. I spent several hours on Saturday and Sunday hiking the trails and meeting up with fellow letterboxers. It was great to meet the BBStackers, Fish Below The Ice, MissMoon, Jiggs, Kenlaur, FALLING LEAVES, Blair Boys, joystar, Bumble, live laugh bubble bath and GuitarHero1...plus see old friends from the Buffalo and Rochester area. I owe a BIG thank you to turkey feathers and BreatBigSeabres...you will be seeing both plants shortly. Also wanted to thank my two traveling companions: Celtic Hound and zephyr...they are excellent.

Thanks to everyone for a great time. The weather was perfect, the hiking a good workout, the restaurant was great (food and service) and whole event was fun. This was my third event. I am looking forward to next year's event.

P.S. Watch out Groundhogs and John Deere Green...I owe both (you know what I am talking about Heeheehee).

Seems like most mystery boxes don't show the finder's names, right? If someone looks at your online logbook, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think mysteries will show up the way other boxes do. I think maybe the date is hidden to others?

Yes, all true. Sadly, I've had someone that watched my finds so carefully that they knew exactly which days I'd been in areas and how many boxes I'd found. So if I had had 5 boxes show up on my trophy but only 4 showed in my logbook, they were questioning me. That's when I turned my finds off.

I make up about TWENTY extras!! Just to hold on to for future trades...

When you do that, how do you number them? Do you number them? For my first LTC tracker, I labeled mine 1/19, 2/19, etc, but then if I want to make extras, do I label them 20/19? Or just abandon the numbering system for extras? Or any of the above?

Now THERE'S a lesson in hubris learned the HARD way!

I can laugh at it now that I'm not all swollen and itchy. But seriously, I've gone thirty-mumble years without EVER getting the rash. My father is immune to it, so I figured I am too.

Getting older STINKS. :)

I haven't decided on making anything standard yet. I've labeled like 22/15 or not put numbers on at all. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Some cards are more special to me, but that doesn't even make me lean in a particular direction. You just have to decide for yourself how you're gonna do it. It's not like there's LTC Police that are going to confiscate illegally numbered cards. They're yours. Do what feels right to you!

I number them based on how many I made...1/32, 5/32. 32/32. Most of the swaps are 18 or so. I send 1-18 to the swap. The rest are for trading...

Yes, there are a lot of cemetery boxes in central Ohio. Like Rose said, one reason may be that the biggest parks in that area (the Metro Parks) don't encourage letterboxing. To piggy back off that, the 2nd largest cemetery in Ohio is in Columbus (in which many locally famous people are buried) and the cemetery officials know about the letterboxes and don't mind them being there. We even had a "mini" meet (if such a thing exists in Ohio!) in the cemetery not long ago, which encouraged new letterboxers to plant even more there.

Make the non-tracker ones slightly different and list them separately. That way you can number them starting at 1 again.

Sometimes I don't bother numbering...if the card is complicated to make, but I might make more later on if I feel like it.

If I know exactly how many I'm going to make and no more, then I number them all.

Yes, but the birthday section is only for those who are still with us, so she had to go. Good catch though. The big names like Whitney Houston and Dick Clark usually get deleted from the birthday lists right away when their death is announced, but those people whose death isn't as well publicized sometimes get overlooked.

Then I got several notices that I'd planted right in a patch of poison ivy. Since I'm immune to it, I never bothered to check. Stupid me.

Been there, done that. It was my very first box planted too. I'm a geocacher too, so I know where all of the boxes are in the area and didn't have your other problem.

They were listed by a company called mindbinder as "small ringbound notecards". Good enough for me, I hate the logbook creation and sizing part of it.

When I started carving I was using actual wood gouges which were sharper and thicker and I too, cut my fingers a couple of times. The set came with a sturdy glove which I started to wear. Later, I got the staedler gouges and never had that problem, but probably it was also because I learned better carving practices. Wear a sturdy glove, such as a thick gardening glove on that hand, and then pretty soon you will get used to positioning your hand where it wont be so tempting to that blade :-) Six carves sounds like you are off to a great start. Have fun!

Chancellorsville Virginia: Hooker became intoxicated with his own accomplishment of out foxing and out maneuvering Robert E Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. Unfortunately for him and his army, many of his ranking officers drank the same cool-aid, thinking that the maneuver somehow guaranteed a victory. After moving into Lee’s flank undetected, Hooker got cold feet and held his army of 70,000 in check. In fact Hooker actually withdraw from a strong position in the face of an attack by an army less than half the size of his own. Lee, on the other hand, along with his favorite subordinate Stonewall Jackson, devised a most audacious plan of his own. Jackson would take fully two-thirds of the army on a 12 mile forced march around Hooker’s right flank with 28,000 men leaving Lee in command of 14,000 to hold of Hooker’s 70,000.

To be continued,

Wow. I would have, too. Ya gotta wonder about the motivation there. Do they think they're ever so clever in figuring out where there are mystery boxes to be found? Are they proud of their skills?
