Woa......another theme change right in the midst of looking at my logbook. I thought I had added something by mistake!

So is this rugby one just for fun, or do you actually have a holiday to celebrate it?

Love the little rugby balls in the menus :-)

Are those rugby balls? From all I have heard about the sport I thought they would have to be spattered with blood and carried by a player with lots more bruises...

Over on this side of the pond it's called football. soccer is soccer and football is football. except for maybe a few small clubs, we don't have rugby. I think our footballs may be a little more pointy than your rugby balls.

Some people celebrate it like a holiday or religion. Personally I could care less. I'd rather be out boxing.

I have followed all the plb turn-around msgs this AM. I rarely post on the big board, however, am going to put in my $0.02.....As a full-time student, mom, and wife (in no particular order!), I can at times become a small black hole. I have always tried to be prompt with at least letting my groups know what I have and what is going on. I also am VERY mindful of my time constraints and won't sign up for more than one DVD-type ring at a time. I have an hour+ commute to and from school everyday with a full course load...plus clinical days which are 12 hours. I try to get to the PO at least once a week, yet sometimes that just doesn't happen. I guess, bottom line, what I would like to convey is that yes, I understand the frustration at backlogs (I am in a ring that is like molasses), at the same time, I also understand LIFE can get in the way. I am doing my best to keep my house and son/hubby happy and contented, get my homework done, study for exams, prepare for clinical days, write reports after clinical days, and still have a few minutes of personal time for me where I can be awestruck at the talent that arrives to me in my mailbox! Sorry, this has gone on too long and it doesn't look like Emory is closing due to ice....(even though I have to drive THROUGH the icy areas to get there.) Y'all have a great day! TexasRaggedy

Hi YT!

This coming Sunday is the Super Bowl--the big final playoff game between the two best professional football teams over here. (That is American football. We called European football soccer.)

You'll find a very large sector of the population plopped in front of their televisions eating casual party food (like potato chips, hamburgers, and beer) and yelling at the TV. There are a lot of big parties so folks can all yell at the TVs together. For many people who don't care about the teams in the Super Bowl, the best part is the commercials. I believe that this is the most expensive airtime a company can purchase and many put out their best, most creative ads.

Foul called! Improper use of the word 'verb'

Hey Ryan,

I was reading through the 'best practices: make your subject count' and came across this:
Quote The noun helps explain what the message is in reference to, while the verb helps explain what action is occurring around the verb.

Now, it is early here and brainfreezes are known to happen... but, shouldn't the sentence end with "...what action is occurring around the noun ?"

=)

Quote 1) Don't hide it where finders will have to trudge through sensitive areas where there's no trail.

I agree with your other points, but this is one I hear over and over and, frankly, I think it is a load of BS. I really grow weary of this whole sesitive area nonsense. How about you just put big "keep Off The Grass" signs in the forest, because that is what this amounts to.

You ever actually walk into a forest. There is nobody there. There are not enough people traipsing around the woods to do any kind of irreparable harm.

I say, the further off trail you can plant a box, the better. People are not going to stumble upon it by accident that way.

Quote any medical/dental/including scrips and travel expenses for speacialists in certain circumstances

You can deduct all out-of-pocket medical and dental expenses EXCEPT for cosmetic purposes. This includes deductibles for each visit to the doctor's office. You can deduct mileage (standard rate of 18 cents per mile OR the actual expenses) for every trip to the local doctor, dentist, drug store, etc. You can even deduct other travel expenses; train, plane, taxi. An overnight stay for medical treatment can be deducted ($50 night per person) for the person receiving treatment and/or a parent, but not for the spouse.

You can deduct medical insurance premiums if the money used to pay for those premiums is taxable. Huh? Simply put, some insurances are before-tax and some are after-tax. A before-tax premium is not deductible because it was taken out of your gross income BEFORE you paid your income tax withholding. Which do you have? Ask your employer if you are not sure.

As a tax preparer, my standard question for this deduction was always "Did you have any out-of-pocket medical or dental expenses? Glasses, braces, crutches, bandages, home improvements for the handicap, stop-smoking or weight loss programs? Yes, Weight Watchers weekly fees are deductible, if you have been diagnosed as obese. You can NOT deduct expenses for generic meds like Tylenol, Aspirin, etc.

Quote it has to total that certain %

Medical has to be more that 7.5% of you AGI. Which is basically your total taxable income from ALL sources. This does not include nontaxable income.

Quote So, if I pay the bill this year, but it's for my appendix from last year, can I claim it somehow for 2006 or do I have to wait for when I file my 2007 taxes?

Sorry. You can only claim expenses in the year the expenses were actually paid.

Hope this helps,

Once, 20 odd years ago, I was invited to a Super Bowl party while I was working in America. To start with eveyone was watching every kick and throw, but by the end of the second period there were only a couple of dedicated fans still in the TV lounge. Everyone else was drifted off to the barbeque or pool and was only interested in the scores to see who had won the sweepstake for that period!

If letterboxing had existed in America then I would have been out looking for boxes instead.

Send some over to this side of the pond! This has been a very warm January with hardly any frost and we've seen no snow at all. Just wind and rain.

Though whether YT can say same I don't know :-)

We are getting snow here in Columbia, South Carolina also, but for right now, the schools are on a two hour delay. I'm hoping for my son's sake that the schools close because this is the first snow in a couple of years, and he's out there playing in it right now. The flakes are really huge also, so it's the fun snow to play in and make snowballs. I'm scheduled to go into work at noon, but that might change too if the snow continues.

For those of a nervous disposition don't look, but for the rest Daniel Radcliffe is going to star in Peter Shaffer's play Equus.

With this sort of publicity I dare say the theatre will be sold out weeks before.

Yes, you might not recognize the place...

Josie's & Sergi's still running strong, but Willow Island Restaurant is gone...they turned that whole spot into the park (had to do some major clean up) There is a newer restaurant: 1844 House (replacing the older one by same name) on Rt 11 Between Potsdam and Canton that serves lots of vegetarian entrees. The yarn/knitting shop is gone in Canton as well, by Misty Hollow in Potsdam carries lots of knitting supplies as well as a new place in Canton called Linsley Woolies, I think.

Can you tell I would for the chamber of commerce???

The Farmer's Market is bigger than ever and the Coop in Potsdam is still doing great.
