Hi!
I'm new to letterboxing, but already hooked! I've placed two so far... one in Brisbane and one in Toowoomba, and I'll be placing more soon. My letterboxes are also accessible on horseback.
Hope that someone finds mine, and I also hope to find others too!

Why are some boxes listed one place but not another?
Board: Province: Ontario

I have prited out a list of Ontario letterboxes accessed via letterboxin.org /letterboxesNorth America /Canada /Ontario.
I have visited 3 of these letterboxes. Yet when I am logged in and do a search, I CAN NOT FIND THEM and therefore CAN NOT LOG them.
What am I doing wrong? I have checked and double checked my spelling.
Appreciate any help

Hi Shelley, some folks only list their boxes on one site even tho they may be members of both. AQ has 77 Ontario boxes listed, Letterboxing.org site has 91 plus 3 mystery so 94 ONT boxes.
As AQ is still fairly new, lots of people list only on LBNA which has a total of almost 18,000 boxes listed, AQ currently has about 8000.

Yes, the point should be AWAY from the line being left. If not, you will cut under the image that will be stamped and the image will them become unsturdy.

Compass reading from a watch...man I remember that old trick...
but I cant remember how to do it ;-(

I took an outdoors class my senior year of high school. I loved it. We did canoe safety, campfire cooking, orienteering.

And the teacher showed us that watch trick. He even showed us how to use a compass as a sun dial to get the time.

=0)

Wish I could find my notes

I dunno if Team Green Dragon is from Florida, but...

I was driving to work yesterday. And I saw a car at the light, it was a dark green Honda Accord. It had a big spoiler, a nice green dragon decal in the rear window...
and the FL plate said... GRN DRGN

So... TGD, Did you happen to be in Orlando yesterday, turning left on the corner of Vineland and Kirkman Road?

Quote The 11th Commandmeent: Thou shalt not go boxless".

I just saw this post (from 2 weeks ago - yea, I'm a little behind times).

Anyway, when I saw it I thought that would be another option on the secret letterboxer question - What's the 11th commandment?-. That would probably get more strange looks than -Which way is North?- though. =)

I took a tactical pause from my bummer summer of 18 hour days of studying...

(18 tests, 3 papers and 1 extended project down--1 paper and 2 tests to go--provided I've passed everything I've submitted so far!!!)

...to sneak in 'Secondhand Lions'. Loved it! It was GRRRReat! :) Another one of those 'fun' movies. It reminded me quite a bit of 'Big Fish'. I guess I'm in one of those 'escape' type of moods at the moment. ;)

P.S. Were my daughter and I the only ones out there who wondered where the giraffe went? Now, I'm starting to think the truck drove off with the giraffe to deliver it elsewhere. Anybody know where it went?

I have the book already--just haven't gotten a spare moment to read it yet. Is this a movie where I'd rather have read the book first? I've got the DVD reserved at the library (yes, we're frugal too--so we can travel)--should I wait until after we read it?

I specifically haven't seen the LOTR movies yet because I want to read the books again (it's been a couple of decades for me). I've been so unimpressed with books turned into movies lately that I've been on this kick to read the book first so I'll have a nice initial 'mental' imprint of how the story flows instead of some Hollywood's bizarre twist and wacky interpretation of it. Anybody else do something similar?

IMO, books are always better than movies because there is room for character development and richness of detail that movies can't have due to time constraints. They stick to a single, primary story arch without the extra richness of secondary/supporting plot lines. Often comes out "thin."

That said, Whale Rider did a good job of conveying the intent and emotion of the book--thanks to the actress who played Pikea. LOTR also did, I think. They did a fine job of realizing Middle Earth on the screen, and the epic feel of the book, while doing their best not to trim too much from the story.

I haven't planted them all though

But I am looking forward to boxing in Ohio.

I do have another odd question that just might fit in here. The stamp I carved yesterday was my Johnny Appleseed hitchhiker. I carved him wearing boots. But I'm thinking now. Does the legend say he went barefoot?

I can modify the stamp pretty easily

I agree with Quill. Though I've yet to read Whale Rider, (it's now on my list)
LOTR was beautifully done. Though I always recommend reading the book first, LOTR could stand on it's own.

I also want to read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I found this at: http://www.millville.org/Workshops_f/Dich_FOLKLORE/WACKED/story.html

Quote As he was a small man, his bartered clothing usually fit him poorly. This led to some of the humorous descriptions of his appearance in those early years. Like many of the settlers, he went barefooted a great deal because shoes were hard to come by and seldom fit his tough gnarled feet.

I'd say in your stamp, he'd recently been lucky enough to barter for a pair of boots!

I don't think that info is posted on the event page. The host emailed everyone that RSVP'ed (I THINK she emailed everyone) with an update. I will send you a copy of the same email. But just in case you aren't the only one wondering, here is the list so far:

Amanda: Scotch Bonnet
Drgdlg: Presidents Polk & Johnson, and Dale Earnhardt

Penguin Patrol: Box turtle, gray squirrel, bass
The Wolf Family: cooties, Copperhead Snakes?
Desi's Mom: App Trail

Hello N.Z.

I am looking for others that might want to be listed on a postal letterbox to go internationally.
The box will also have a mini booklet within registered with www.bookcrossing.com
and will have a small traveler inside the box as well.

There will be a log and a stamp and journal for your comments. Size will be small and hopefully not too heavy for those that want to participate in mailing.

Please send me a mailing address, a personal email listing (for others on the list so that we can keep track of where the box is from person to person) and any other mailing information that you think might be necessary for me to have for mailing.

The box will consist of 6 persons. If this all goes well I will send out another again to the same listing with adding one more name each time it returns back to me.
The box will be going out in mid August 2005.

Please email me your responce.

I'll be taking my mapbook that weekend from work and throwing it in the car. It's normally a $50 mapbook that we use to get all over Mecklenburg county. I'm a street name navigator mostly, so anyone who calls just needs to pay attention to the streets they are on and I can get you around, unless, of course, you find yourself on Queens Rd. No one can help you there... it's the Bermuda triangle of Charlotte. Hmmm, I may have to mark certain areas of the map with skull and cross bones as a warning...

Quote A letterboxer that visited my boxes in Florida sent me pics of her family letterboxing at 2 of my boxes.

I took photos of my son planting a letterbox and he came up with a great idea. Why not include a disposable camera in the LB with a note asking finders to take a photo? I think it is a good idea, although I wonder if anybody would do it, or if most are too camera-shy?

I think I'd be worried about the camera getting wet. It sounds fun, though. It would especially cool if there weren't a lot of gatherings around to meet people or if it was a touristy box that attracted lots of out of towners.
