Help with Carving
Board: Province: Ontario

Thread Board
I'm a newbie to letterboxing and although I have 10 boxes planted, they are not hand-carved but do apply to the theme of the letterbox. I want to start to carve stamps as I've seen some awesome images and would love to be able to do this. Anyone in the area (I'm from Lambton Shores) that is willing to put up with a newbie, meet-and-greets, or any events coming up soon?

Come under the table we can turn it over and use it as an over sized shield.

I for one only think you should retrade someone's cards if you get a duplicate and have their permission to trade it out.

I haven't participated in any "grab bags" but if I were to participate I would only send my homemade LTCs not anyone elses. I cherish each of your cards.

There are several tutorials on how to carve. http://www.atlasquest.com/tutorials/carving/ That shows how to carve with a gouge. There are a few on how to do razor carvings too. Here is also the link directory to other tutorials. http://www.atlasquest.com/toolbox/linkdir/directory.html?gDirId=2

Hi there! Is there a place where a decent tutorial is offered on podcasts? I have an iPod Nano, and would love to put this stuff on it. I have no idea how to begin to do that :)

Any help?

My language pet peeves is putting the "r" where it doesn't go. I dont know how many times I have heard Warshington. Really? Did we get a new state? Could you spell that for me?
My daughter has a new one that is going to drive me batty. "Like O-M-G really?" and we are 8...we are starting to go crazy....

Hey there and welcome to our little corner of the letterboxing world :)

I saw with interest your Kettle Point - area boxes... I spent a ton of summers at Camp Ipperwash in the 70's, and have good friends who still summer in the area :)

You may want to try Water Lily ( I think she's a little further up towards Lions Head), Pam of the Big Blue Team (St Thomas) and Fiddleheads or Lone R from Guelph to list just a few of the wonderful carvers in the province!

If you're not a member of the Yahoo group Letterboxing Ontario, You're very welcome to join us!

Finally, our annual Ontario letterboxing gathering is in Orangeville on 30 Oct. Check the events listings for details.

Please feel free to email me (or any of the the other boxers in the province :)) with any questions, or simply throw them out here.

Some day, when somebody opens that box, the stamp will fall out and will never be found because it's so tiny. That's crazy small! I thought we might have the record for smallest stamp, but you clearly win that one! :)

When I first saw this post listed under "recent threads" I thought it said "hurrican ear!" so I opened it wondering what a hurricane ear is!

I really hope he just passes us by

Good luck. Hope the hurricane passes by or doesn't do much damage. The coast of NC is so pretty. I hope the hurricane season ends soon. Many disasters this year, natural and man made...

...I also would prefer it if this season doesn't get anywhere near naming a hurricane Paula.

=P

Take care and cover!

You would think a 1/8 inch square was the smallest, but I have one where the BOX was the size of a #2 pencil eraser. The stamp was even smaller....a simple carving of an ice cream cone.

Considering that anyone can look at your logbook and see the series that you found recently and who the previous finders were (in one case it was me) You might want to reconsider making statements about other boxers ... I assure you when I left the boxes were re-hidden. I think its fine to post a reminder to rehide boxes but if you have a particular question for a particular boxer I think you ought to address it directly to said people or persons and not make sweeping statements.

You mean how to download? I would imagine if you google "download podcasts" you'll get about a gazillion sites.

Also if you go to the podbean site @ http://letterpod.podbean.com .....there is a link for podcast basics.

San Jose Meet and Greet?

Hello, fellow San Joseans (and those who WISH they were)!
My dear friend Piper Paws will be visiting the area this weekend, and I was wondering if anyone is up for a little Meet-n-Greet this Saturday (9/4)? Evening, maybe? Or is afternoon better? Ideas for a location? Let's talk...

My language pet peeves is putting the "r" where it doesn't go.

Oh, but wait, a lot of Okie's say warsh, for wash! Now, that doesn't mean they don't know how to spell it. Its just that way over here, or maybe its just me, heaven forbid. ;-) My friend teases me all the time about it, that, and the word wing, I pronounce it whing with a huff, ha. Never noticing it till she tells me...shrug

I hope I spelled "Its" right? ha ha ha...I have no idea. Really.....bet you're gonna tell me, tho, ha.
Think that came up once before.

Sunday? Would you entertain Sunday?

I will be in Sacramento, hopefully jumping out of a plane on Saturday. But Sunday is open . . . . assuming of course, I land safely.

Thank you, LT, it was your comment on that box that got me to wondering if you were disappointed it was a miniature. Sorry, I took it wrongly. Thank you for the compliment. Thanks to all of you who have spoken up, too. I like making them fit the smaller LnL's, when I have them....that would be my preferred size container, usually.

Well.....ummmm....uhh.. Here's the rule on its and it's. If you can say it is and it makes sense then it is "it's", if it doesn't make sense then it is "its". I had to ask a teacher once because I didn't get it.

Oh Man...I love Presque Isle. I haven't been there in years though. At least before I became a boxer.
But I love the expressions on my friends faces when they asked me what I like to do in PA. And I answer that I have such a great time at the beach.
