Okay, I think I've got it going: Harry Potter Read-Along.

I hope we get a few people. I've missed Harry and it'll be good to have people to talk to about it again!

Friday, July 2nd? I'm so there!

You mean I finally get to meet The Infamous Kelsung, He of the Diabolical Clues??? WOOHOO!

I would love to head down to Seal Beach again, especially if it will bring Uncle Don and Auntie Gwen out. But I'm pretty open to anything, and I will have a car. I don;t actually suggest anything in the Staples area, since this convention is HUGE, and everything in the area will be pretty crowded.

Looking forward to it!!

The next Maine event is in July in Scarborough! Do a search for events and you'll see all kinds of things coming up.

There's a BIG event in August, Maine's Nautical Past" in Brunswick. It's a whole weekend +.

I'll be sure to get any boxes you left behind.

Good !! We'll get the clues up later today.

We enjoyed E-town and Jones' Lake. White Lake was impossible to get close to, and private all the way around. We also visited Elwell Ferry and both LOCKS/DAMS. Very interesting area.
Tory Hole Park was very nice.

We didn't eat at MELVINS. We saw it and could tell it had been an ICON there in town.

Why were Mark Reynolds and Adelaide Addison included (Addison/puff adder/posionous in her opinions?)

Why Charles Lamb and not some other author as Mr. Dawsey's obsession?

Let's talk about the story, and not about buying books at Borders. "GRIN"

LOL, I did that once. Thank goodness I was alone. I didn't have a map though, just clues, so I blame the clues, haha. But I realized half way around the loop that I was going in the wrong direction, so I turned around and went back to the start, then headed around the correct way, finally arriving at the box location under moonlight, only to realize it was mere meters from where I'd turned around going the other way. Doh! And by the time I started looking for the box I could barely see the trail, much less the "stump" and "fallen trees", etc. If there hadn't still been some snow on the grow to reflect the moonlight I'd have had to resort to my phone flashlight app. Of course a month later when I went back I knew the correct way to go and found the box straight away.
Better luck next time! Not all maps are very clear, and some are positively miserable, so it may not have been you at all.

I miss them too. My oldest son (7) just finished reading the first book for the first time and so we had a big movie night to celebrate. He started the second book straight away.
It made me miss all the summer hype too. So I planted a "witch tor" series for PAL Day, and the two older boys each carved a Harry Potter stamp to hide as well. :-)

I second the thank-you to Sally-O and Donutz for an awesome event. I loved the morning venue and also highly recommend the Memorial Day series of boxes in Hurd Park...just lovely.

I was great to meet so many great Connecticut boxers; I'm thoroughly enjoying my new CT home.

Mystery boxes are boxes that you have to figure out where they're at - towns are usually not listed in the clue so there's more to figure out. Here's a list of some mystery boxes in NM-
http://www.atlasquest.com/results.html?gTypeId=6;gSort=1;gStateId=34;gCountryId=1;gMystery=1
Boxes out here can be in anything - tupperware, lock and locks, camo bags, film cans, magnetic key holders, you name it. Unlike some parts of the country, there are usually plenty of rocks around here to hide boxes under. Hope this helps.

Where do I start, wow! Welcome aboard "Still Frame". :D Looking forward to checking out the boxes you planted. :D Got my clues all printed out and I'm ready to sneak away for a few hours. Hope the dogs agree.

Happy Birthday Mud! It's raining here just for you to play in. Come to Bangor and fling some mud! Oh, I know....I'll fling it down to you. Can you catch? I've got good ol' FARM MUD! :D

Great pictures Jiffy! It's ok if you are behind. Never worry about that. I can't think of a single person that ever gets tired of looking at old pictures. What fun you all had. Sorry I missed some the events. Life. You know how it is. It's always getting in the way of my "passion/obsession".

AT, glad to hear your ankle is ok. Hope it continues to get stronger and not give you a hard time. Someone will have to make you a cane/walking stick. I know of a beaver dam that has great walking sticks if you are interested. Hmmm, actually....I need to go back that way. I'll bring an extra one home and see if you like it.

I better start looking for a puppy sitter for the Kites event in July. I did make over 40 little pouches while I was sitting with Sadie. Silly girl, pushed all my craft supplies aside so she could have the rest of her litter under my craft table. Guess she knew where all the "important" stuff is kept. ;)

Feels great to sit here again. Happy June 1st everyone. Guess summer is on it's way!!

damaged/destroyed boxes... sent both owners a friendly message about them, with details about the situation and offers to help repair/replace, to mail the lonely little logbook we found,

If its close to your home, I would repair/replace anything that needed it. If you liked the location/box enough. Or felt it worthy of doing so. This after tries of response. It could some day become one of your own if you wait long enough and contact Ryan about it, talk it over....and adopted the box. I found out that it is not truly yours after all if the owner comes back and decided to box once again. That was fine with me as it was a friend of mine that this particular box belonged to and I had conversed with her about it before hand. I had carved the whole series and she planted them. But you would not be in that situation and there may be more to it than what I speak of, hince the talk with Ryan. Suggest leaving the old logbook in place, however. Add a new one.
Just my 2 cents,
OD

So thanks for the birthday wishes - have been sung to by my two mini muds and my niece this morning. Doing laundry... writing a blog and trying to get caught up after a lazy weekend before heading out to a joint birthday dinner and movie with Ron this evening.

But the real news is the raccoon did not return the last two nights. I did wake up to the most curdling noise this morning (Hummer is part Siamese) because a strange cat was attempting to stop for a nibble...

So the adventures continue... ; )

When you search the state you can choose mysteries and they will come up. The closest one is west of me....and there are 2 that are north of me. I have been using plastic lock type boxes and one was a plastic jar... but tins work out here if you want to put magnets on them. The biggest thing is don't forget to ziploc the stamp & logbook.

E-mail me if you want more info.

I have a series of 3 on a loop. Instead of saying "turn left", it tells the boxer to travel clockwise around the loop. Nearly everyone goes the wrong way. It must be in our nature to turn right.

In this case, no amount of skilled map reading would help!

I agree that not all the trail maps are accurate. More times than not I have been confused about the map the parks offer. One thing I have done that seems to help a little is to take a picture of the trail map (the one at the trailhead) so that I have some kind of reference while I am a mile down the trail and can't rely on my memory to find my way.

It is also good to rely on your instincts. If it doesn't seem right, don't go that way. Look at it this way, at least you racked up some miles for a pathtag if your state offers one. You were letterboxing even though you didn't find the box!

Ah, so they're the actual classified mystery boxes, not the name of a series. Duh. That makes sense now. We've found a few mystery boxes here. Considering that there are so many actual mysterious things in NM I interpreted the original post as the name of a series. :) Anywho, we usually plant green camo-ed Lock n' Locks so we were thinking of brown camo for our little desert box. We'll have to do the prep for it on arrival since we don't want to take an odd camo canister on a plane! Thanks for everybodies input-we're looking forward to 'boxing in NM!

We do that, too! :) Often that's the only map in existence it seems -- nothing online or at the park office.

I agree that sometimes maps/markers are just confusing. At the trails here there is often more than one "start point" and many times there are no signs. If that wasn't bad enough we once hiked a trail that was called *different names* depending on which end you started from!

Another time a group of us were on a hike through a state park when the ranger guide who was with us stopped at a trail marker to discuss how to read the markers and didn't even notice that the one he was leaning on (at a five way trail intersection) had been installed backward and pointed in all the wrong directions until we (the hikers) pointed it out because we noticed the blazes on the trees didn't match... talk about getting confused on the trail!!
