Goal setting vs reality
Board: State: Maine

Thread Board
I need some advise. I set up a challenge for other people to set their goals for letterboxing. As I'm reading them, I see how small my goal is for the year. Yes, it will be easy to reach especially if life gets in the way but in REALITY, I LOVE to hit 1000 traditional boxes and try to get out of Maine to box. Do you folks think that is possible to do that many in one year? I would need 534 boxes this coming year. A couple of people have set their goals even HIGHER! WOW!

Here is the challenge if you would like to join in and challenge yourself for the coming year. Remember, it's a personal challenge not a compitition against each other. We are supporting one another and helping each out reach those goals. Everyone sets their goals according to their life style, their limits and their realities. http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gEventId=1557

It depends. I have seen retired people hit numbers like that by traveling the US and going to events, so it could be a realistic goal depending on your situation. Also, some area's have more boxes than others. South Florida does not have as many boxes as some other area's so those numbers would be really hard for me to hit in a year; but, I'm visiting in Greeneville, SC right now and they have hundreds of boxes just in a 25 mile radius, so it could be a lot easier to find that many boxes in one year here. I guess you need to look at where you plan to be boxing this year, the number of boxes available to find and the amount of time you have to do so and see if it is possible. :)

The first year I boxed with Teacup - I picked up over 800 boxes in one year. Yup - its possible. Especially when you have someone else that's so much fun to box with!

Go for it - what do you have to lose? Or split the difference and try to up your goal just a bit : )

TT--creative inner pouches? Can't wait to see some of those!

I have a series that is about half-done with the theme "old-school" games and I bought a bunch of material last year to make pouches that sort of match the theme of each stamp. I also made some logbooks that also have the old-school type feel---but based on the recent discussions on that BIA board---I went out and found some really cool coasters at a discount card shop that will also add some excitement. So I have a good project to "keep me busy" this winter!

Congrats on setting your goal to plant! You know what they say about that?! =D

The most I ever got was 42 in a day, but that was the day we did a 'boxing event. Since the vast majority of the boxes were just on about one acre of land, it wasn't hard. I still stopped short of getting all the boxes. I like to go see new places so traveling back and forth over the same small area just wasn't my thing.

There's one thing about Asheville-- there may be a lot of drivebys but the locations that the boxes are in are VERY interesting-- haunted, historic, and/or scenic. And lots of great carvings.

It's a goal. What's the worst that would happen if you don't make it? Nothing. It's the journey, not the destination. Have fun and make memories with each box you find. ;)

Having a boxing buddy makes all the difference. Since I started boxing with J.E.S.S., my numbers jumped astronomically! in 2008 I found 684 and in 2009, I found 708. The year before I met J.E.S.S., I only found 200. Having someone to hike with makes all the difference!
Thanks Jackie!

I agree with Mama Stork on this one. Many cookbooks list things as meatless and sometimes those of us that do eat meat look for a recipe that is categorized as that. Since I believe the mainstream is not vegetarian; if you happen to be, you will know how to find the recipes that fit your preferences.
You will go crazy trying to please each and every group! Everyone should know what they like and look for their own recipes and mark them their selves. Besides, with all the little "tidbits" you have included we will all probably read the book from cover to cover!
Oh yeah...I dont use Teflon or non-stick for health reasons; could you please list those recipes that turn out OK in in regular pans separately? LOL--just kidding Romana (of course) you are doing a great job and however you list the recipes it will be fine! Dont drive yourself nuts over it!

My kids have recently discovered Calvin and Hobbes and can't wait to get enough snow to do something fun.

Here's a website for some inspiration...

When I first started I too planted only crops with the highest profit margin. Once I reached level 25... and my life got more hectic - I too managed my crops by growth time cycles. Different goals - different reasons for playing!

I bet lots of folks manage their farms this way. I did the smae thing on FarmTown until I reached level 32... once I got my gazebo - I stopped playing as much.

You only get XP from Raspberries on your first crop, then you don't get them again.

I can buy XP. I can't buy coins! Well, technically, I guess I can, but I'm not spending any real money on this stupid game. =)

if you trap your farmer in the center square with haybales or fencing, it's much easier to plant/harvest crops, or to have someone fertilize your crops.

I don't have money to spend trapping my farmer! It's on my to-do list, but I need every square inch of my farm generating cash right now. I figure I can build fences later.

After I reached a certain level I thought it was a fun thing to do to plant a crop just to see if they would follow suit. :0)

I like that idea. *heh*

Some days I can do short term crops and other times I have to go with what takes a couple days to ripen.

It happens. *shrug* You'll see the same thing happening on my farm too. =)

Can someone tell me what the stamp swap board is and how does it work?

I was in a stamp-swap postal. Not sure if this is what it is though. In the postal all the stamps went out and you could swap out up to 5 of them. Then you put your own stamps in as a trade. Maybe it is so more artists can be represented in other areas? (like here?) I am off to that board now to see if I can figure it out! Terrio

If you have a stamp you don't want to plant or it doesn't fit the area you live in and you would like to send it off to someone else, you let everyone know by posting it on that board. Or if you are looking for stamps for an event you can see if people will carve for you or have some that fit your event that they can send - please join us!

It's me! I'm here in Oklahoma!

This is the first time I have had a chance to come to Atlas Quest since moving. It's been crazy busy. Especially with that blizzard. The move out itself was nuts and we didn't catch a single letterbox. Bummer.

Anyway, what's up Goofy Girl?

Yea, but Farmville is like marijuana; it's just the starter game. Then you branch out into Island Paradise and Zoo World. Next thing you know you're hooked on Country Life and Treasure Madness!

Just don't stop having fun and enjoying the experience. Don't get wound up in finding as many as possible. Don't get caught up in speed boxing to reach a goal. IMneverHO.

MM....who is actually retiring this week and thinking about being able to do more boxing without that pesky job getting in the way. And going to more events farther away. That's something I'm really looking forward to.
