Normal letterbox/hitchhiker ratio?

My son has been letterboxing since around April. In his first 40 to 45 finds he has found 8 hitchhikers. Is this the norm or is he just a hitchhiker magnet? I've had some folks with as many finds as he has tell me they have never found a hitchhiker.

In the begining I found a lot but it seems to have tapered off a bit. It comes in waves.

what a long strange trip it's been....

I had a great time at the event this weekend!

Thank You Granny Butterfly, Coffee Mug, and A Skywalker!!!!

You were all such wonderful hosts and event planners/coordinators!!!

PM Dawn and I traveled down together, boxing on the way...and it was such a nice, enjoyable trip.

We stayed in the lodge at Shadow Lake that evening, along with KUWT Jones and Peanut Brain...the next morning, it was time to do a little boxing all together before the event---first finders on quite a few! :) It was the perfect way to start the day....with my loved ones, on a beautiful, peaceful hike for letterboxes.

Then off to the event...and WOW what a place those Woodsfieldians have to party at! Very nice!
The weather was perfect, the chicken was awesome---thank you for sending some home with me Coffee Mug! And there were plenty of boxes to hunt down...I need to go back sometime soon, there was no way to get them all! ;)

I was happy to meet the Red and Blue Cruz-saders at the event...we went around together to hunt the boxes in the park, and I was so glad we had that time to get to know one another, they are very nice people!

Towards evening (but well before the sun was setting) Bone Yard Recorder, Pioneer Spirit, and I went to hunt down some boxes in the cemeteries in town...oh boy did we have a good time...those two can make me laugh!

I made it back to the event with just a little time to get a little more stamping in...and as I saw the sun setting, I knew I needed to leave before I ended up driving on those Edge of Ohio roads in the dark! ;)

That evening was a laugh fest back at the lodge...with PM Dawn, Wild Bill, Peanut Brain, and the ever LOOPY kuwt Jones!!! ;) and then Boney and Coffee Mug showed up...and Miss Loopy got LOOPIER! Oh, I think all of our cheeks were hurting after that one!

The next morning was breakfast in town with PM Dawn and Wild Bill, and then as WB drove off on his Harley, PMD and I headed to find a letterbox and then find Granny and Coffee Mug, who graciously welcomed us into their home. We spent some time with them (and A Skywalker --and Boney showed up too) and then went out to find just a few more boxes before heading home. I can not stress enough how wonderful these people are...so giving and kind---I am truly blessed to know them. :)

On the way home, during the pit stop at a rest area, and after finding a Safari Man Hwy series box, PM Dawn and I saw 5 cars in the parking lot that looked like margaritas....they were "Mini"s, yellow, with Jose Cuervo on the side, and ice, a straw and a lime on the roof. Yep, really. It was the universe was trying to tell us something...you're weekend was wonderful, but alas, has come to an end, go celebrate with a margarita! ...but, we were still driving, so the drink would have to wait! :)

P.S. and another thing I missed was the winner of the Favorite Ohio Vacation Spot PT carving game. Who was it and what was the prize? I know, it was 14 carry bags and Gail (BYR) bought them off the winner for her new stamps for the next gathering.

I actually would like to know the real who and what.

I think I averaged it out to about 1 HH to every 20 to 25 finds. Yes, there will be waves of them and droughts up to 40 - 50 finds.

HH are a breed of there own. You never know where they will appear.
We found one yesterday that had started out in that concentrated area (small park with 21 boxes), went away to downtown G'ville & back again. We have one HH that started here in SC went up to NY then came back down to NC & is now enjoying life in WA. We have another that started here in SC went to WV came back to NC and is now in Indiana.

So as individual HH have anomolous lives, finding them reciprocates that as well. You just never know when, where or even what HH!

Just a quick note to say we made it home safely. Granny Butterfly and Coffee Mug are WONDERFUL hosts. I get that warm and fuzzy feeling inside when you are in their company. Thank you for all that you did. I had such a fun time.

That nice rear shot is of myself, Safari Man. (Favorite Vacation Spot Contest) At least you didn't zoom in on it like you did to Pioneer Spirit!!! I got off easy this time ;)

I ate some of the best chicken I've ever tasted. Who knew a trash can would hold such a yummy treat. The best part of it all, I consider myself a vegetarian!

I get to host a couple of birthday parties so I won't be logging finds any time soon. I just had to jump on to say thanks. I will be back as soon as the leaves change!

Just wanted to put out a reminder that this Tuesday (tomorrow) is the last day to attempt my Lady Luck personal traveler at Howlett Hill Fire Department. I'll be leaving on Wednesday and she'll be unavailable while I'm gone.

But if you don't get her, just wait a while --- she'll be available again just as soon as I return!

You can always read the book about her, written by MY SISTER! It was published in Feb but now that she is the VP pick my sister is the celebrity of the moment. She is been interviewed by everyone! She will be on the Today show this week. She has been invited to the Repub. convention. Wall Street Journal, NY Times want to talk to her and she has already been on CNN Jim Lehrer and NPR. I think Kaylene is getting more press than Sarah Palin! And I have to say, if Iwere forced to party vote I definitely lean liberal, but I really do love Sarah. She is conservative in many ways but also progressive. She believes in helping the needy but also personal accountablity, which I applaud. She also blew the whistle on her own party which is great. It proves to me she isn't part of the 'network' that is broken. She gives credit where credit is due regardless of the persons party ties. She really is great. I don't agree with all her views, but so what? I agree with her morality and her ethics and that is more important that issues in most cases. If you want to read the bio about her *shameless promotion of my awesome sister's book here** go to www.Kaylene. us. Amazon is currently SOLD OUT. Although you can get TWO used copies for ....142.50 a copy. Unsigned. TeeHee! What an awesome ride for my big sis! You go, girl!!

*waving back*

If my kids were older (6 & 3), and could handle LBing for more than 30 minutes at a time, I would LOVE that! My 6 year olds really enjoyes it, and would probably do very well if it were just the two of us. My 3 year old is always bringing up the rear, and just can't last that long. Being a boy, I thought he would do a little better since there is so much cool stuff in the woods. Thing is, he finds sticks, rocks, dirt, etc.....then just sits down in the middle of the trail to play! We are always proding him along!

Maybe when they are older, I will be sad to see the start of school, but not this year!! :-)
