then how would you know who agreed???

In most cases, it wouldn't really matter. It's the number of people who agree that's more important than who agreed.

No, you can't see who voted what, just the totals. They got p*ssed because "someone" was disagreeing with every post (It wasn't every post, just every post my friend made.) I explained what I was doing and why, thinking that'd be the end of it, but some of them were still miffed. Snarky comments were made, and I made note of who made them. <g>

We've moved on since then. (But I have a long memory.)

agree (1)

The "love" button, in theory, would cut down on those *pat, pat* kind of snoodleposts when someone posts about something awful happens to them, relatively speaking. (Which, depending on the boards you're on, could be:

Argh! I ran out of yarn!

love(1)

or:

Argh! I just put a sharp metal needle completely through my foot and as a result, my house blew up! I'm posting from the Red Cross van!

love(1)

It serves its purpose on the huggier groups. Personally, I think the agree/disagree buttons are much more intriguing and useful, even when people disagree with things that are, oh, say, factual. (I had someone disagree with a post about my middle name once. As in, "my middle name is...". Factual. But apparently, I don't know my own middle name, because there was the Phantom Disagreer with the clicky-clicky. Go figure.)

Intuitively, those are the two buttons that intrigue me the most. =) The other buttons might have their uses, but I do like the agree and disagree buttons.

I still think the "love button" is hilariously funny. =) If I implement that one, I think I'll call it the "hug button" instead--or at least something that doesn't sound as ridiculously funny as the love button. =)

Any other useful button ideas people might have?

I had someone disagree with a post about my middle name once.

Your middle name is B and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. ;o)

But seriously, when it comes to websites, people click on the wrong items incredibly often which might explain why someone would disagree with your middle name. *shrug* Or maybe someone out there is just disagreeing with every post you make. ;o) Who knows? But I'm not the least bit surprised that there would be odd things like that to happen.

Does the site allow you to click more than one option? Limit how often they can be used? Let you retract votes? So many details to think about......

But I'm so very intrigued! =) Perhaps "intriguing" could be a button. Hmm.... So much to think about.....

KnitWit and others - I finally got someone to figure out where I left off on the sweater I began in 1981. I had the front and back panels, and one sleeve complete when I set it aside for many years. I've been wanted to knit more sweaters, but I had this major block and fear to try again. I took my work to the the local KnitWitts, a church group that makes charity blankets, and one of the ladies took a quick look at it and told me where I needed to start again. I did 12 rows yesterday. I will have to get better light because I am working with 2.5 needles and navy wool and mohair yarn. If I can do a little each day I hope to have it finished before summer. That's my new goal. THEN, and only then, I will be hitting the stores for new patterns and taking a class or two to learn more than knitting and purling. Solving VLB's will be toast for me.

My stitches haven't changed! When I get it finished, I'll post a picture. You can let me know if it looks handmade.

Woohoo--a post about knitting!! I was getting really confused there--what was everyone talking about?

My current project is a pair of socks that I'm making with some cotton yarn that I dyed using leftover dyes from our Girl Scout tie-dye project. I think I have those 2.5 needles too--I know they're smaller than the recommended 3s! And I'm going crazy because they're dpns and the yarn keeps sliding off, especially when I keep it in my bag. I think I need either to invest in wooden needles or to get a whole bunch of corks to stick on the ends!

You might want to give those corks some breathing time before you do the knitting, hehehe.

I don't know, but surely there is something we can still on the ends of the needles. I dropped a couple of stitches and I just hope I retrieved them properly. Maybe it won't show in the dark colors.

Quote there was the Phantom Disagreer

I would just like to say defensively that it was NOT ME that time!

Also, I have a friend who feels strongly that there should be a "WTF" button. ;-) She's very vocal about it on occasion.

Kit Kat-- We're talking about Ravelry (www.ravelry.com), which is to knitting what AQ is to letterboxing. Wonderful community-type website that allows you to chat with others, keep track of your stash and your projects, search others' projects, to see what yarn they used for what project and how they liked it. You can also search for patterns there, and probably a bunch of other stuff I've forgotten at the moment.

Hmmm.

Okay, I signed up for an invitation. Hopefully it won't come until the school year ends--my husband is complaining that I'm already spending too much time on letterboxing--so far the knitting seems to have escaped his notice!!

Interesting. My husband encourages letterboxing as my creative outlet because the pink stuff stores more compactly than yarn does. I hope he never adds up the cost of either... ;-)

Is LYS the store downtown? If so, the person who helped me teaches a class there, so I am told. I am itching (not from the mohair) to go inside that store and see what they have. It's about 2:30 and it looks like I have about 4 more navy rows to go before I switch colors - next color -- one of my all time favorites - LODEN GREEN.

It is a simple rainbow stripe - I chose navy, loden, butterscotch, cardinal, and eggplant; in between each color four rows of off-white.

Do you know the hours for the store downtown? Are they regularly open?

Sorry I didn't get back earlier. I took a half a personal day and had to make the most of it:) We went to the county assessor's office and got an exemption put on our property taxes that we should have been using for the past four years...but didn't know about; I got a haircut and eyebrow wax; and we went out for dinnner AND lunch, and cleaned out the garage for our neighborhood's clean-up day this weekend...I feel like I got a lot done.

LYS is chat speak for Local Yarn Shop. Our Yarn shop is Unwind Yarn Shop. The lasy that owns it is Vicki Hair, Was it Laura Arndt that helped you? SHe is teaching the class I am taking there, but there are several ladies who teach there.

I think Unwind has one of the bext selections of cascade yarns I have seen anywhere. She carries the most colors I have seen in one yarn shop. She also has lots of great natural fiber yarns stocked...silks, bamboo, hemp, cotton, even soy, I think.

I must check it out. AND - when you are feeling up to a road trip, we should go to Morgantown where there is a fantastic yarn shop. As I recall the owner raises their own wool that's for sale in the shop.

I'm so bad, I didn't remember, but I think it might be Vicki. My cold has left my hearing a little muffled. I'd say she's maybe 30?

And now for the news ----- I have completed 4 rows of loden. Did you see the 2 pictures I posted earlier today?

I have to go look at them....I have a question for you ss, what blog do you use? Is it free? I have some things I need to be able to put on the internet for a project that I am working on. It's directions for cutting plastic bags to make plarn....and then links to all of the plastic bag patterns. I need a free web page or blog to post it on so that instead of distributing pages of patterns tomorrow at the Earth Day celebration, I am just giving out one half sheet of links.

I am going to look, right now:)

Those button clicks are anonymous (to answer an earlier question). Only you know if you've used one on someones post (it is bold when you have clicked)
They are also a toggle--you can remove one of your own clicks (click again, and you've removed it).
You can click on any of the buttons, you can simultaneously agree and disagree with a post. Or find something educational and funny, etc.

Space bags can be used to help reduce the volume (but of course keep the yardage) of your stash. Just a thought.

The button should become bold and the number 1 in parenthesis is added to the end of it. =)
