Transfering Box back to owner

OK, I have two boxes that were sent to me for DS Sun. I planted them and wrote the clues, and now the owners/carvers would like them back. I retired both boxes and am mailing them back, but if I delete them from my list, won't the finders lose the count for the box?

I think the owner/carver should just go into their listing and change them to active and rewrite the clues, right? Put themselves down as the planters/authors as well. I don't care about losing the count on my end as it was just temporary stewardship anyway...but I don't want the finders to lose the count!

I might have asked this question before but I don't remember the answer. *grin*

Good work on getting the information for everyone.

I may just have forward this to Ms. Holdsworth at Skidaway then have the next person going that way get and rehide the box.

You can transfer the ownership of a box from the Box Details page, next to the person who's listed as the owner.

I've been lucky enough to watch this off and on during the day today at work. I've been watching for a couple weeks now, so imagine my dismay at seeing only ONE egg in the nest today! Ahhhh! My co-workers think I'm crazy because I was so distraught! I didn't see what happened, and I didn't see any "remains" until I looked at your picture.

My fingers are crossed with you! They've been such good parents!

I have purchased them the last two years in a row. Army Corps of Engineers too! I'd say we bring in a good amount to the parks system.

They probably found them by googling "new manchester" letterbox, like I just did. The AQ listing was first or second in the results.

Maybe they found one of them accidentally and checked to see if there were others. The reservoir box was last found on Friday.

Man, that stinks. It looks like a great place to take the kids but we won't be going there now unless there are boxes. Lithia Springs is nowhere close to anywhere we usually go when we're in GA. :(

I couldn't find anything on this one. I have no idea what it is. The closest I could come is:

http://gastateparks.org/net/content/item.aspx?s=58004.0.1.5
and
http://gastateparks.org/net/content/item.aspx?s=14493.0.1.5

The former refers to public use facilities, the latter just reiterates the GA code about not using electronic devices. I still don't see how either would apply to letterboxing.

SHH Spring Letterbox Maintenance

Thread Board
Please make a note of the following changes of SHH Letterboxes, especially if you have printed the clues for boxing trips planned in the upcoming weekends.

East Aberdeen Waterfront - I took this box for maintenance and will be replacing within a couple of weeks. It is currently missing.

Build a Sandcastle in Grayland - I also took this box for maintenance (thank you Heron-a-Foot for placing the temporary logbook in the box). I will be replacing within a couple of weeks. It is currently missing.

Travelling Dune - is all ALIVE & WELL, even after the trail flooded! This is such a great trail - you have to take your family!

Just for Fun! All Steamed Up - has been moved to a less visible spot - this trail is absolutely gorgeous - check it out!

Road Trip! Go This Way! - is missing; I am unsure of when I will be replacing this letterbox.

For the absolute latest status on any SHH letterbox, please check my homepage (the link is located on the clue pages).

See you on the trail!

here is info from a page I FINALLY got to load. The folks at "Hancock House" posted this "sad news" on their forum yesterday. There is still some hope...but below is the info posted and now we all know that one egg is definately gone. If the parent eagles realized the chick was dead they would have eaten the the remains. That is probably what has happened...but it is still speculation on my part.

Eagles and conservation have been the joy and occasional sadness of my life. This is a sad moment. It appears that the Hornby Island bald eagle eggs are infertile. The first egg should have hatched April the 26 and the second egg today. The first embryo, if it developed at all, is surely dead. The second embryo, could still hatch but I cannot see the proper pipping of the egg shell, where the chicks beak has broken through enabling it to draw in air, the precursor to the final struggle for hatching. It does not look good for this pair this year. In fact this is the second year of failure for this nest territory.

I pray for the other to hatch out healthy.

I put this together this rating tool a couple of years ago, based on the system used by geocachers (modified to suit letterboxing), but it never really got any traction:

I think most people find such ratings too subjective to be useful, even when there are quantifiable criteria.

Ok, I have to contribute to the nest cams. My school has one up at an osprey nest. It appears that they are experiencing some technical difficulties right now and when it is working, it is often not pointed at the nest, but hey, they tried.

For something totally different (as in the continent), one can broaden one's horizons to a Stork Nest in Germany:

please adjust for time zones wherever you are. Germany is 6 hours ahead of Eastern Time. So, 6 pm EDT is roughly midnight.

I was just thinking that today when I saw a canoe out on the river... I would still think that both of those would qualify as extreme if jet skiing qualifies. I'll prolly put Xtreme on there just to be certain and then qualify it in my clue as being accessible by all three... *nods*

Thanks!!

Listing One Box in Series Owned by another ...........

I contributed a box to a series about a year ago and would like to list just my box in that series. The Series Owner/Planter/Author has given me permission to do so, So, do I list it as *One* or *Four* In Series?......Also, I noticed that the Owner has the notation of "Transfer Ownership" & "Orphaned" behind their name. ???? They are active boxers......Yikes! Does this mean they lose ownership? ??????????

Confused,
catbead

Thanks for helping! :-)

Not to worry. The options are only for those boxes listed by people who haven't signed into AQ for over a year. Sign in once a year and you are golden.

Next to the box owners name is two options.
Transfer Ownership and Orphaned
If you want to give the box to someone you click transfer, If you are moving away and dont want to retire the box, orphan it. Only a boxes owner, planter, author, stamp carver etc can see those options.
If you look at a box that you have no involement in, those options wont be there.

I normally don't watch this show, but I might have to tonight! I just can't picture that transformation...

I've been following the eagles with great interest since seeing their cam URL posted here, so thank you for sharing it!

Unfortunately, our eagles aren't going to be parents this year. David Hancock (of Hancock House) thinks they may be too old, and infertile. But, he also thinks they've had lots of eaglets in the past, so we shouldn't be too sad that this year didn't work out.

There's lots more information here:
http://forum.hancockhouse.com/staticpages/index.php/20060323091954727

It's still been fascinating to watch them, eaglets or no. :)

Thanks. :-) So it's there in case I wish to transfer ownership of the box at some point in the future?...wait, that doesn't make sense because I'm not listing myself as the owner just the carver - so it doesn't seem proper that I should be allowed to give away ownership that isn't mine. (Does it show there anyway simply because I'm the one who listed it?)

Next question- my box is one of four in the series, should I list it as a single box?

Thanks,
catbead

Anyone interested in my April Fool's Box (Poisson D'Avril= April Fish) please contact me via my e-mail. This is a fun little solo box (not a ring) to commemorate a favorite day of mine. You'll understand what Poisson D'Avril's all about if you do!

Only requirements are that you've done 5 or more letterboxes, traditional or postal, and that you share a favorite April Fool's story that either you did or were on the other end of. I posted on the LBNA board but thought it ought to be here as well. I still have spots for 4 or 5 more. Thanks!

Take care, Orion
P.S. I'm looking to let folks know by tomorrow and ship it out Monday.

Hi Orion - Somehow I missed this post. If it's still available, I'd love to receive Poisson d'avril. And no, ce message n'est pas un poisson d'avril! :)

Merci!
