I don't use the Yahoo boards and am not interested in participating in a third letterboxing-related website. So I'm glad that LbNA now has its own board here for those of us who want to discuss LbNA topics. Thanks, Ryan!

Are they really giving away pathtags to people that give them money to improve the site?

Pathtags are so expensive, so I thought someone may have been misinformed about the free pathtags.I heard patches too but I've never paid to have patches made and IDK their cost.

A pathtag costs about $1 to make. They are selling them for $25.

OK, they are giving out free - IF you donate $25 or more.

LBNA has its own talk list

...and this thread already has more posts then the LbNA yahoo group had last year.
I'm in several Yahoo groups. There's a reason people call it Yahell.

There's a reason people call it Yahell.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I've tried to join a Yahoo email list, and sometimes they worked for a little while, and bam, I can't get in, or I don't get messages. And I'll spend hours trying to figure it out and finally give up. Yahoo lists are more of a 90's thing, aren't they? Or maybe things have changed in the last couple years, but at this point, the minute I see "Yahoo", I say forget it.

Ok, so LBNA was the first site I found when I googled "letterboxing", and is responsible for getting me pumped and teaching me the ropes….but I've never been able to search the site.

I try plugging in "Morganton NC" (the closest town to me of any size), and it sends me an error message saying "Sorry, but I don't understand that location. Error Type:". If I try "Hickory NC", I get listings for Hickory and Morganton, so I know Morganton IS in their system :/

I tried listing my own box on LBNA, and I think it got swallowed up - I can't find it anywhere.

I just can't use the site. Any helpful hints?

I think they are having website problems, which is why there is a fundraiser going on to update the site right now.

I think not all towns are in there, so searching by nearby cities is the way to go. I can find Tampa Fl, but not Palm Harbor FL, for example.

I can find boxes I listed by clicking letterboxes, my letterboxes.

If you are LittleHootCP, I found your box called NC Wildflowers in Valdese. Is that the one? It is listed as placed as May 21, so maybe you need to change the date to make it show up as a new letterbox. But I can see it if I look under your name.

With LBNA, we have always found it useful to search by counties. If you search by the county in which Morganton NC is located, you will hopefully get that city as well as all the neighboring cities in that county.

Yahoo is for people that hate Facebook and refuse to get a Facebook account, I think. I personally love the Facebook Private and Secret Group settings, and have used those often.

Facebook Private and Secret Group settings

Google plus is a whole lot easier to navigate, but no one seems to use it... I like the circles feature. I wish more friends were on it. Then I could just look at my close friends circle feed, and not have to see that one person who always photographs their meal... ;)

I tried to join the Great Lakes Yahoo group when they were requesting stamp donations and still haven't been accepted. It seems to me to be a very select group that are accepted. Like back in school when you were the last to be picked. I prefer AQ where everybody will talk to you without getting permission.

Here's the info if you'd like to support LbNA and get a pathtag or patch.

It cost $178 to order 100 pathtags. I believe it would have cost $116 to order 50, so this was a better deal. We were lucky to get glow for free this month!

No, but you may have run into a problem that we've been having off and on for a long time, where the server is running but www.letterboxing.org doesn't get to in - a problem with the DNS name server.

LbNA doesn't have it's own talk list, actually. There are a fair number of Yahoo! groups dedicated to letterboxing, including letterbox-usa, but none are LbNA specific. I asked Ryan if he would be willing to host a board for LbNA here.

The location based searching is a bit broken and is at the top of my list to fix. You can find your box by using the bottom part of the search page by entering state and city.

The location based searching is a bit broken and is at the top of my list to fix.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this as well, but it appears that in a location-based search, some boxes are excluded. Most of these appear to be newer boxes which have entered an additional descriptor such as a street or landmark in addition to the city and state. It is difficult to get these boxes to appear in a search.

For example, this weekend we visited North Attleboro, MA. The LbNA location based search gives a variety of boxes near and in North Attleboro, but does not return several newer boxes (such as Risky Cave Adventure and Strike 3) which do show up in the city search.

Yes, that's part of the same geocoding problem mentioned above. I'll have clean that up when the geocoding is working again.
