I also prefer MasterCarve. I like that it is 3/4" thick so don't necessarily have to glue it to a wood backing. Mtn. Wizard

Not a ton of snow yet. Drivable conditions as we speak. Just an FYI on hotels just in case. Between Lansing and GR there are two right along the highway. Portland has a Best Western and the Ionia M-66 exit has a Super Motel 8. From M-66 exit, it's about 20 more minutes to GR and 28th St. There are lots here and it's about 15 minutes to downtown. In addition, there are several downtown, but, the Days Inn is right across the street. I would check back for cancellations there.

I really wish I had taken the time to meet "X" since he is now leaving the Carolinas. He was right here in Greenville recently, I just couldn't make it work.

I guess it will always be that way with letterboxing:

it may not be there when you have the time.

Oh we've been throwing it down on the Event and New York Boards. Candidates declared, and someone asked me if I would host a debate, but I said only if I could be the moderator! LOL So we are having a mock election, to coincide with the November elections, and kicking off the first debate at Desperately Seeking Sun, THE winter event here in the Northeast. We decided 10 nominations received by me in my AQ mail would be enough for a candidate to "run"...and the platforms I've received are hilarious! All in fun, of course!

Anyone who has 10 nominations is an "official" candidate and any official candidates that show up at SUN are allowed to participate in this debate. It's our hope that other events around the country will host their own debates and put up candidates as well. Heck, we've got a couple of people not debating and just running a write-in campaign!

We hope to have Ryan host our Voting Booth when he returns, so that come November, we can all vote.

As for nominations in the Northeast so far...we have Dave from Team New Hampshire, Solar Flair ( a child who was nominated by proud parents and friends) , Cyclonic ( a conservative candidate if there ever was one) and Mainekokopellian. Intent to run has been also received by a couple of candidates, but they need a few more nominations before they are in.

Check it all out on the Event and/or New York boards...or check the fierce campaigning on the Maine board!

Oh we are crazy , alright..and we bring our boxes indoors or in cars or near heat vents to stamp in. We carry hand warmer packets near our ink, wear fingerless gloves under mittens to help with the stamping in, make fake foot steps to several places to confuse latecomers, etc etc.

Here is how I deal with urban boxing in general, from a previous post of mine....

I have a foolproof method for getting rid of people near an urban box..but you have to be fearless and willing to embarrass yourself a little. I call it my as yet unpatented "Obnoxious Cell Phone User Method," developed through extensive field work. It works like this: Go directly to your urban target with any cell phone and pretend to answer it ( you had it set on "vibrate", right?). Begin a loud and obnoxious conversation. My favorites from my own experiences listening to others are :

1) Hi!!!.......What?... Wait, I can't hear you! Where are you calling from?.....I SAID I CAN'T HEAR YOU!....Turn off the radio. No! the RAY DEE O!.....I SAID TURN OFF THE R-A-D-I-O!!!...WHAT?...NO, NOW YOU'RE BREAKING UP!!...I SAID YOU'RE BREAKING UP!!..YES! OK, I CAN HEAR YOU NOW!...WHAT?!?......Wait a sec...(moving slightly) CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?...I said....CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?...WHAT?!?...Oh..OK....I'll WAIT..... and etc etc

2) Hello? OH MY GOD! *squealing* How ARE you?!? Ohmygod, I can't believe it's YOU! I have SOOOOO much to tell you, girl! ...Yes!yes!yes!..EVERY WORD. I swear to God,it's all true!...What?.. No, no..not like that. NO! She got it wrong...here's how it went down...Todd told Katie that Marcus wanted to get with her, but she like, hates Marcus's guts cuz he hit on her sister first but then like, pretended he didn't....so she told Todd to tell Marcus to get lost, but then like, she felt bad about it later cuz, you know, Marcus IS pretty hot, so like, she called Todd back and then she goes "What's up?" All innocent you know? But then Todd's thinkin' ..."What's she callin me for?" and he thinks like, Katie must be into HIM, so...he gets all up on her, and he goes..."Hey, baby..why don't you come over and hang out for awhile?" so Katie thinks Todd wants to tell her more about Marcus, so she like goes over there, right?...What?..Yeah yeah..I know!... I KNOW!!! So she still goes over there, right? And then like Todd is all over her and she ...what? Oh god I KNOW! He is SUCH a dog.... etc etc

or my alltime favorite...the "OOZING story"

Hello? Oh, thanks for calling me back. No, no..it's still there...........Well, I first noticed it yesterday morning...it was just a little red and inflamed. What? No..not too much pain...just kind of itchy, ya know?......Yeah, so then I kind of scratched at it on and off all day. No! ( laughing) Well, not in PUBLIC! *looking around and lowering voice a little* Well, I TRY not to... but I can't help it! It was itchin!......Uh huh....Ok, so then like last night when I was going to bed I looked at it and it had gotten huge!... Yup! And it's kinda crusty around the edges but the inside is all kinda sticky and yellow and oozy. Yup...this gross yellowish stuff...yup! And all night I couldn't sleep cuz it was oozy and itchy and everything..it was driving me nuts!.....*scratching general groin area* ...Yep.. Well this morning I have a bunch of 'em. .....Yeah! They're all over the place!....No, but they're driving me nuts!.....*scratching more now*..I couldn't go to work like this! YES YES...I'm washing but I can't help it! *looking around guiltily and scratching more, then wiping hands on shirt* No.. No...just tell me what to do!.... etc etc

I am sure you can think of your own, but in my own experience, people clear out pretty fast with any of these. Hope it helps.

OMG, LOL
reminds me of the time . . . . this is true now . . . . my first child was breech and big so a C-section was scheduled. A week before the scheduled date my water broke. I was in a grocery store. I went into the bathroom and called my OBGYN. They asked me what color the fluid was and as I describe "it is kinda thick, like snot, and it's got some pink and black in it" someone had come into the ladies room and went RIGHT back out again.

~resQlou

(for those of you who don't know, describing the color of the fluid is very important. if there is any dark green or black in it then it means that the baby had a bowel movement and it is important to get the baby out hopefully before it inhales any of the waste into it's lungs)

I'm glad to know this about ruined envelopes, and cardboard. I love using cut up cereal boxes for the recycling "good karma" - but not if the envelopes are torn, and the card ends up landing on the floor of some PO facility, being stepped on (a thought that makes me depressed...... ;-)). So I will go to index cards, and make a clever stamp to put on them, a la SHH and others! And the cut up cereal boxes just became "glue" stations. When they get too gluey, they can go in the wood burning stove ;-))

If anyone has lost cards I sent because of a torn envelope, please let me know!!

Re: glitter on cards - being a preschool teacher, I LOVE glitter, I get PAID to glitter - lol!! But I've never put it on my cards. However, I did happen upon a neat product at ACMoore - glitter glue in the kids craft section. It comes in different colors, though it is fairly translucent. I used some on some fairy wings (Garden Fairy, for those that received it) and it's sparkly, and (as far as I know) doesn't shed. THe glitter is very fine and (naturally), mixed with the glue. Just a thought for fellow glitter lovers!

Quote I can't believe how many cards I have in my collection now... I'm gonna have to buy another notebook soon!

~SHH :-)

We must have been thinking this at the same time!!! I recently moved my collection to a "nice" larger notebook, and it's already almost full - woo hoo!! And I have one swap in the mail back to me, and 3 more poised to send back - it's gonna be a great mail week pretty soon!!!

Loving these LTCs - especially on days like today when it's pouring cold rain outside..... :-P

I like to use the sketch books with the wire binding so that I can keep it open all the way.

For kids, I found that the 3 x 5 wire bound cards from Wal-Mart were a good purchase at about $1. It allowed a spot for my kids to stamp on a blank area and then have the lined card to write about the stamp. (FYI - the neon colored cards have too much color and don't accept ink very well.) Some of the covers of these are really pretty. They're also quite small and easy for kids to use.

When I heard that the woods would be thinned and you would be removing Furry as in Freedom, my 2 boys and I went out there to get those boxes. They were terrific and we loved the trails. I was able to turn a simple hike and letterboxing into something so much more (learning experience) because of the history that is in and about the area...old farmers home, old crop fields, etc. It was an amazing day and we had such fun.

Too bad there are such nasty people out there that do such acts in public!! "Get a room" is what I say...

Please think about replanting elsewhere for those that didn't get to find the series before, they are terrific carves (even though I had to have my husband explain some images to me ;o)). Hey...what about Hagen Stone?? Plenty of planting op's.

even though it will only be for eight episodes

So since it was originally supposed to be 16 new episodes in a row for the next 3 years, does this mean they are going to start next season earlier with episode number 9 from this year? SO maybe next year has 25 episodes instead of 16? Or will they push it out one more half season?

Oh please let this strike be over soon!

Definitely history! My 2 teachers were the MOST boring teachers and just expected rote memorization. Now that I'm homeschooling (15 yrs. now) I love learning all that I missed and experiencing it with my kids.

(Gym was one of my favorites, probably because I had my mom for 8 yrs as a teacher (small K - 12 school) and I went into PE/Science/Math as a teacher, too. Too bad your teachers didn't teach about the rules of the game and have a sense of humor! Understanding the game/sport is so much more important that being able to do it, unless you are competing in it.)

To my knowledge, this simply isn't possible which is why you can find nothing on it. The coding within excel works on a cell level, not a text level, meaning that if you want a hyperlink, the first thing it needs is "A5" or whatever.

I don't have any lack of places to plant. It's time to get out there and do it that has been the rare commodity of late. Of course on these particular boxes, i first need to find the proper kind of index card binders so i can restock the logbooks.
