Quote Otherwise, the pink stuff should be available at Michaels although you have to go up and down every single aisle to find it and don't bother asking an associate there--they won't know what you're asking about--but despite that they usually have it.

At Michaels, 85% of the time I find the pink stuff and carving tools in with the canvas and oil paint supplies. The other 15% of the time it is with the rubberstamping stuff. I have no idea why they put it back there with the "real art" art supplies! :-) (as opposed to the "crafty art" art supplies) Take your 40% off Michaels coupon with you too!!

I don't remember the name of the box.
But it's out on the peninsula, which has an ummm,

Looking for someone to adopt a letterbox out of state

I am looking for someone who would be interested in adopting a letterbox out of the state of Georgia. I have a group of 7th graders where I work that I have gotten interested in letterboxing. I have carved their school mascot for them and they are making the logbook. I want them to be able to see the progress of their box as it is found but I would like to place it somewhere besides in their home state of Georgia. I think that this would make it much more intersting for them. Is anyone interested in this? Thanks!!

Would you consider a trade? I am a leader of 8th graders and we can send the same (we have a mascot carved as well!) for a placement there. It's not all that far, Alabama, but this may give them the opportunity to come visit occasionally. I'm close to Montgomery so could hide the box somewhere there.

Yes. The box will not remain permanently. I have been asked to speak at therir 8th grade graduation next year so my goal is to leave the box for that one year time frame, pull it and have it for them atheir graduation - kind of like a memorial. Then we will probably plant it closer to home so they can visit.

I would be most interested in an exchange. Two times the fun. I will contact you off-site to exchange addresses. Many thanks!!

Quote I think my car is probably worth more than those nowdays. =)

what? the GT has a CAR? I dont believe it! If so, it's probably got so few miles on it, if you took it in, the dealers would be convinced you flipped back the odometer! My dh 's 85 Nissan was like this... He lived about 7 miles from work, and basically never left the county (until he met me).... in 2002 when he was taking me to the airport, we "celebrated" his turning 50k miles over on it!

To keep this on topic, coincidentally, I've been thinking of getting a new camera. I have an Olympus Camedia 3000 now and it just eats batteries. (I guess they all do though). I like that it has digicam capablilities but it is rather slow to respond.
I'm thinking of getting a Canon Rebel. Anyone wanna chime in on their experiences with this model?

I think I did graduate with one of them (John Lowe) and graduated with the sister of the other (Scott (?) Braginton-Smith). I'll have to see their faces to know for sure.

Yup, that was them. Too bad they were eliminated.

Well, maybe not toooo spoiler-y. I think if you were putting your bottom three together, they might have been in it.

I am trying to decide how annoying the Texas glamazon frosty gals are--they are amusing on the TV, but I have a feeling I might dislike them strongly in person (I tend to shy away from loud people).

One thing letterboxing has taught us is: to always read the whole clue (a mistake the Mississippi marrieds made) and to be able to find the box, especially when ITS RIGHT THERE (a mistake the older marrieds made)!

Thanks for the good words. I'm a little jealous of him actually. When you talk about isolation and beauty, I want to go worse than ever. Maybe by the fourth and final year I will have the time and money.

I hope he takes the time to explore and find himself although when I was the same age, my view of Europe was Disco here and Disco there interrupted by brief periods of beer tasting, and for variety, shopping for suede minis and leather boots. Thirty years later, I'm sure I would do it a little differently. Positive.

Doing it differently? I hear you. But for all that, you probably still managed to soak up some culture--you can't help it, it's all around you. Alaska is like that. You can't help but see nature--it's literally right outside your front door, from the moose who doesn't get zoning laws to the fox who dart across the road.

What lovely locations and intriguing clues! I had a wonderful time visiting lisascenic and Robb, and also got to meet Paul in SF.

Thanks so much Californians for taking such care with your boxes; they were a pleasure to find.

p.s. It is now my dream to have the wealth and time to come to an event in CA.

i know i am new to this sport, but i am defintly not new to book binding! if anyone would like to commision books from me, i would love to make some! i can make books of all and any sizes, and i love making them so i would love to either sell (for cheap!) or trade (make an offer!). also, i can send pictures if any one is interested.

i use a handbound coptic book for my logbook and i feel it suits me much better than a store bought book! i would recommend them to everyone!

I don't drive often (in fact, I disconnect the battery most of the time to not run them dry!), but when I do, I tend to go for long distances. (Probably a thousand miles or so at a shot.)

I have one of those and absolutely love it. I don't use it so much anymore since it's not a digital, but it's on my wish list. =) If I did get a *nice* digital camera, I'd probably stick with Canon because I do like it, and I could still use all my old zoom lenses and filters. =)

I don't know about that. I've done them for years and they're kind of dull, I think. I've always loved getting the Dell Math Puzzles and Logic Problems rag and I'd do the sudokus when I needed a change of pace from the other more interesting puzzles. And this was long before they were ever called sudokus and became the fad that they are!

My favorites are actually the cross sums--which also picked up some bizarre Japanese name overseas then returned to the states with the new name, which I can't think of off the top of my head. Seems so wrong to turn an American invention into a Japanese spinoff. *shaking head* They'll always be cross sums to me. =)

I enjoy the word arithmetics too, and those haven't even been Japanized yet. =) Logic puzzles are fun too, though, but I usually spend most of my time playing around with the cross sums and word arithmetics until they get too hard to figure out. (I do get most of them, though!)

Sudokus I can take a pass on, though.

I'm glad the guys who got booted off did get booted, because the one I was finding rather annoying. What the heck is up with getting out of the taxi and not flagging down another one anyhow? There must be a million taxis driving around. I understand dumping a driver that's not doing a good job, but wandering around asking pedistrians for directions seemed rather dumb. Flag down another taxi and chances are, they'll know where to go!

But the two woman (one with an apparently overactive bladder) were getting on my nerves too. Way too much screaming from those two. (Better to be happy screams than screaming at each other in anger, however!)

The one other team that's already starting to annoy me--though it's much less minor than those first two teams--is the Ken and Barbi couple. I don't remember their names, but one of the other teams called them that. The girl--did you notice she's always jumping up and down and screams when the slightest thing goes their way? It's almost like an afterthought for her, it seems. I think it might be a fun drinking game to take a swig every time you can catch her jump and scream, though. =)

I'm pretty happy with most of the teams that came in the front of the pack, though. =) Lots of likeable people. My favorites are the hippies, though. They are hilarious! The Double D joke killed me. =)

Oh, whoops! I should double check my spelling. That's MeshugaNutcracker.

Their description is "Tchaikovsky's ballet tweaked to tell tales about Chanukah."

This was a rental at the theater where I work. I painted the floor, but must confess that I didn't go see this particular show.

There were some great Jelly Donut costumes, and a gigantic box of Chinese Carry Out. Silly Stuff!
