Greetings, Scarab!

It seems that many of the NYC boxes I have found are now retired or unavailable (like the Gotham series), but a quick scan of my log book tells me that Imagine is still active, and not too far from there was Spook Central. (both in the Central Park area). Down in the village is Halloween Adventure, which is a unique box: http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxView.php?boxnum=9977
However, it is in a store, so today would not work.

Miss Moon and True Indigo are both wonderful carvers (and people!), so I would recommend any of their boxes that are still available.

Happy 2008!

I know that this has nothing to do with letterboxing but I just wanted to know. I was at my sisters house last night for New Year's Eve. She will be getting married this year. We were discussing bride's maids dresses and what not. My question is in a traditional wedding who is responsible for paying for the bride's maids dresses? kmbaker

I had a traditional wedding and my parents paid for the dresses, however, I've been in two traditional weddings as a bridesmaid and I've paid for the dresses each time. I think this is more common than the bride (or bride's parents) paying.

Quote You actually could set up another persona, log the plants there, and indicate in the written text who the planter, carver really is.
That persona would stand on its own with BDs or not.

Hmm..I actually like the idea of a persona just to log event boxes. Thanks, KB and Don! I have always felt a little guilty logging so many plants under my own name. I am justifiably proud that I have conceived, carved, authored and planted almost 300 boxes all by myself to inspire others to explore their world. Exploring is my number one hobby! But there are almost 30 boxes on my plant list that I have only authored and planted permanently for Desperately Seeking Sun or some other event.

I wasn't sharing any cool new place....I was just trying to find enough hiding places in one area so people could collect a variety of carving! There are a couple of boxes at the various SUN locations that are off the beaten path, and ARE at cool places so I hope people will seek those out as well. The "Taphophile Shepard" box in Brewerton, for example. The most beautiful tiny graveyard I have ever found...and I have found a lot of graveyards! lol

So this year at SUN, all the former boxes are in place..but I am adding some cool spots around town for those who like to carpool with a group. It should be a LOT of fun! And I am going to make up one of those profiles for SUN boxes only. Thanks for the great idea, guys!

Unless the bridesmaid is a "junior" bridesmaid, the bridesmaid pays for her own dress. In the case of a junior bridesmaid, traditionally, her parents would pay.
I didn't look myself, but I bet such etiquette questions could be answered at marthastewart.com

I remember KC being on in the AM before going to school, I also remember coming home and watching, get this, and this is where I get my love of reading Stephen King and the Sci-Fi aspect of my "ID".

Watching Dark Shadows and Dr. Who

And of course after that I'd watch Flippo. Remember the 3 wheeled car that he had with the door that opened in the front instead of on the side? I went to school with his daughter at North High School class of 74 (originally).

Who manufactured the transfer tool? The one I'm using is made by LENK and is 18 watts, 120 volts. The images I've been transferring are printed on a HP deskjet 932C. I've completed five or so stamps so far and haven't had any problems whatsoever.

I think this particular individual was rude, but I have personally had nothing but very positive experiences with geocachers (I do both, but mostly letterboxing). As a whole, I have found the cachers in my area to be really fun and very considerate people. A few of my boxes are cross-listed as caches so I get a lot of feedback from the cachers about the hand-carved stamps and just yesterday I had one email asking me how he could learn to carve stamps, too.

Keep in mind that there are inconsiderate letterboxers, too. I've had boxes that were not closed properly or rehid at all well, leading to wet and missing boxes. I've seen historic stone walls totally dismantled by letterboxers looking for a find. I even saw my own girl scout troop, after I had given them a good discussion about ettiquette, put my own box away incorrectly so that muggles could plainly see it, and that was with supervision from my coleaders!

The best way to educate cachers is to cross-list some high quality letterboxes and explain letterboxing in the geocaching.com listing. My latest hybrid says this near the top:

"...There is a hand-carved rubber stamp to mark your logbook - bring your own rubber stamp if you have one to mark the letterbox logbook.

"About letterboxing: This English hobbie originated in 1854 as a means to prove someone had navigated difficult terrain. Unique, hand-carved rubber stamps evolved to provide proof of the find. "

Otherwise, geocachers often think letterboxing is just a cheap copy of geocaching for people who don't have gps receivers. And therefore they would not have much respect for it.

I have one easy PT and one harder one. The easy one is just to say my Mom's name out loud....."Gloria Long." She is the one that gave me the Smithsonian article but never got a chance to letterbox. Mom passed away but I know she would have been thrilled to watch me participate in this hobby. By hearing her name spoken aloud from so many people...she lives on for me and will never be forgotten. The stamp is the first stamp I ever carved....out of an artgum eraser with a steak knife! It's cool to see how much better my carving is now with some practice. I hope that little PT will inspire others to keep carving.

The other PT is guessing my ex-husband's name. He was famous in his field when I was married to him. Three wives later, I am not so sure.....lol. Figure out his name from the clues and you can smush his face in some ink and then pound him into your logbook. Just let me know if you want "Ex-in-a-Box." *grin*
