Ooops, sorry, missed this one! Thanks, Travel'n Turtle for answering pretty much what I would have said (other than gloating about the hat!). I didn't get to log it yet, but keep an eye out for the 'free' days when we're able to.

Not so new box near Gatwick

I hid a box today at Box Hill near Gatwick Airport. It was a box that was originally a mystery box at a gathering held in Goldendale, WA, USA in 2006. I have included the original logbook in the box, so that the UK letterboxers can see some of the signature stamps from folks in the Pacific Northwest of the USA. :-) Hercules nows lives at Box Hill!

It does not show up as a new letterbox, so i thought I would post it here.

Cool! I'm probably closest to Dorking, so I'll get over there as soon as I can. Let me know if you're ever in the area again and want to meet up. :)

Thanks!

Ukusa - you'll have to be first to get the Hercules box. I realized I had already gotten it at the Stargazers gathering. But I have a box to plant around Box Hill, so if you wait, you can get 2 at the same time. Unless Amanda zooms back in and snags it first.

I was wondering if there is a place that the boxes outside the US are organized per location... that is, when I search for a box say in England, they ALL come up alphabetically rather than by town... how do I know which ones are where, besides opening them all?

That's an issue that has come up quite a bit. Unfortunately, we're restricted by the way Ryan initially set up AQ in relation to UK boxes and how we enter them. From what I understand, he doesn't have any options of changing it up. I think it would be great if we could organize by county - just as you would search in a particular US state.

If you go to the "Advanced Search" page, and in the "Location" box put the town you're looking for, then a comma and "ENG" it seems to work. I don't know how comprehensive this is, but I've used it for London ("London, ENG"), Cambridge and Stafford successfully.

Hope that helps.

I've done it at last and planted a letterbox! After finding nearly 300 boxes (most of which I can't log on AQ) I've put one out in the wild. Look out for my Crofton Beam Engines box if you are ever in Wiltshire.

I must admit it was rather rushed as my daughter announced that she and a group of friends were doing a practice hike for their DofE and would start at the pumping station. I remembered hiking the same area 30-something years ago and this inspired me to finally create a box. The stamp is not great but daughter says it is acceptable so who am I to argue?

Well, done DM great to see more letterboxes sprouting down South, especially AQ ones. The stamp will be fine if your traveller is anything to go by. I just love seeing everyone's creations.

Maybe I can get down south sometime this year and then I can hunt for it.

Welcome back YT. I thought it a little early for tortoises to come out of hibernation, was it the beautiful weather we had this weeekend that tempted you out? :-)

Seriously though, thank you for the comments about my carving. Hopefully it will improve with practice. I have several others planned to put out along the canal to make it worth a visit.

HI, Desperate Dan -

That's also what I do. Usually after I've searched for an area (say Thirsk, ENG), I then click on 'nearby boxes' when I have one open and it will show only the closest of boxes. So, for instance, if I did a search for London with a distance of 50 miles, I would get this:
http://www.atlasquest.com/lboxes/results.html?gTypeId=2;gStatus=9;gCoord=51.500311,-0.00573;gRad=75;gLocation=London%2C+ENG%2C+UK;gTitle=London%2C+ENG%2C+UK
Whereas, I did this search for 100 miles around Ripon, ENG because I knew I'd be at a dog show that was going to have an early finish time and I got this:
http://www.atlasquest.com/lboxes/results.html?gTypeId=2;gStatus=9;gCoord=54.115864,-1.558445;gRad=100;gLocation=Ripon%2C+ENG%2C+UK;gTitle=Ripon%2C+ENG%2C+UK
I also have a general ENG search that I use simply for the [map results] option so I can see all of the boxes visually on a map. The only limitation I've ever noticed that we have is the 'Trip Planner'. It seems that everytime I think that there is a limitation of the AQ interface, I find that the limitation is me!!! LOL Ryan seems to think of everything! So, maybe there is a Trip Planner option that I haven't yet discovered... Ryan??

Hi, YT-

At the end of June (29th), is a good time as you'll already be down for Travel'n Turtle's event. :-D http://www.atlasquest.com/events/event.html?gEventId=311 It'll be good to see you and the Wild Women again! I'm not sure of the proximity of DM's box, but it's definitely closer.

It's closer to the event than home for YT, though not as near as you might hope. According to the AA it's 128 miles from Battlesbridge to Crofton, and that is heading west so it is well off YT's route home. Now if anyone was heading to Dartmoor via the M4 it wouldn't be too bad, only 12 miles or so from juntion 15.

Yes, I did think of that when i saw DM's box. A bit of time to go yet so I will see how it pans out. There is a holiday for me just starting to materialise in June, but I don't think it will be at the end of the month so hopefully all will be ok.

Hi all, I am new to this message board, but have already communicated with several of you in my quest for UK boxes. Currently I am looking at Tittesworth Reservoir in Staffordshire, near Leek. I know about the Puppy Love box UKUSA and am most eager to find it. Anyone know of any other boxes in that area? Thanks....
