Thanks to all who signed up. Because I limited it to ten, it filled up fast. I will more than likely send this box back out when this round is over, so stay tuned!! And if we're lucky, Houdini will finally contact the mortal world tonight. Happy Halloween!!!

Take care, Orion

Quote Ryan? What do you think?

*chuckle* Honestly, I think it's overkill. It's not the genitals that make us who we are, but rather what's inside. *nodding*

Anyhow, there are plenty of places in the profile where people can suggest what gender they are. Under 'real name', if they put Scott, it's a good bet that's a male. Or, if they don't want to put a real name, they could include a note saying "A manly name" or something.

If someone really is concerned about not being mistaken for the opposite sex, though, there are plenty of ways available in their profile to suggest the correct one.

Hardly seems like an issue to get worked up about. =)

Quote How many of you out there, after seeing a trail name, thought it was a "He" (or a She)
And it turns out to be just the opposite?

Happens all the time. I would have sworn that many people were one or the other.

Thank goodness for the obvious ones like SheWhoPlants and Amanda!

Happy to be...

I've been tripped up, too, many times. Of course, I'm used to it. My real name is Chris and no one is for sure about that either! It's fun to get notes from teachers and they aren't sure whether to put Mr. or Mrs. until they meet me.

Possibly, but not so likely in Georgia yet. If they were planted in NC, it'd be a different story unfortunately. :-(

Sorry about the bad luck, Judith.

This is true. And you're right about the genitals thing, too. Certainly this isn't an issue to be pushed to the front of the line. Or, for that matter, really to get in the line in the first place...

Though, it is indeed embarrasing to call someone by the wrong pronoun....

All right, it's official. I absolutely cannot find the ghost. I must be out of my mind. I can't remember staring at a computer screen so long before in my life. Even when I look away, it is still faintly there....

Anyone else having any better luck finding it... or not? Celtic Quinn, have you found it yet?

Two thoughts on the invisible ghost:
1. Don and Gwen and mountainkin are funnin' us.
2. Browser differences?

I sure can't see it! I think they're pulling our legs.

I have a third thought....

What if ghosts only 'haunted' certain webpages? After all, they tend to stay around the same place, from what I've heard, and haven't been known to haunt multiple houses simotaneously. They like their spot and stick with it. *nodding*

Ghosts are notoriously uncommon.....

My husband tolerates our black and white cats. But don't ask him about Nightshade, dearly departed many years hence. Shade was a beautiful black cat with short little legs and eyes so green they'd stare your thoughts out of your head and into her cat mind. Those eyes took up most of her sharply featured face. An odd shade of green.

Tonight we have the sliding glass door open, the screen shut. This is the doorway from the kitchen to the deck and into the backyard filled with fallen leaves. Mostly brown, but still red and transluscent golden skating across a dying lawn. With the door open, we can hear the kids makeing their way around the bend in the street to head this way.

Tombstones readinng "Kandi" and "Candyman" are illuminated in the front yard. A fog machine triggers a low lying smoke swirling around them. Lanterns and Jack'o lanterns cast mad shadows over the walk way to the door.

MEOW

A black cat is sitting at our screen door. Plainly sitting. Waiting to be let in. In the two and a half years, we've never seen this cat. A tiny thin feline, with eyes looking at us.

So I opened the door, meowing back, hoping that whatever catspeak is being uttered isn't an insult to this cat's parentage. It meows in response and walks right in, tail held high, heading for the living room where it settles on the couch.

Teepsman, shocked as I was about this cat making itself at home, whispers, "I've never seen that cat. Maybe it lived here before?"

Maybe it did.

I keep a separate logbook for stamps I've made. I also keep a copy of all the images (ie:clip art, etc.) I use, so that if any stamps go missing I can re-carve them. It makes it easier to let go of my stamps that way.

Don't worry, CQ is much more careful than that! Quite a few of us know this family and we haven't divulged anything they wouldn't want us to. They're having computer issues right now, but they'll be back online eventually.

You know, right after I hit "send" I thought, "now that might sound like I was directing it to one person." Well, my apologies to CQ! I've been reading too many messages on various lists and with all the talk of "improvements, counting, WOM, blah blah blah" it just started to become a blur and it seems like some of the mystery of letterboxing is fading. It was intended only as a reminder to myself and others to be careful in what we post. Nothing more. Now I should take a break from too much of this; I am so addicted.

Nope. Mr. Amoeba here. Never thought of using my Olfa, though.

BTW, I took one of the small V-shaped blades, and gave it a gentle squeeze with a pair of pliers, resulting in a finer line tool. Don't sqqueeze too hard or you'll break the blade. Paint a dab of color (nail polish or...?) on it, so you can distinguish it from tour regular small V-shaped blades.

In or around San Francisco?

Come find my Day of the Dead box on Wednesday, November 2, from 6:00 to 8:00. The store where the box is being hosted will have a fun party, the attached art gallery is featuring altars made by local artists, AND you'll get to meet the splendidly lovely Lady in the Hat! I'll be there, so say hi and let's visit, OK?

Can't make it on the 2nd? The box will continue to be hosted at this wonderful location for a long time, so you'll have time.

Box name is 'Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead'.
