You guys will like this story. Many years ago, SWMBO and I were constructing a small footbridge over a creek on our property -- which, yes, is in Florida. Basically, dig 4 post holes, drop in 4 posts, hang some structure onto the posts, add ramps to the ground at both ends. So I'm using a post hole digger a few feet from this creek, and as soon as I dig deep enough the bottom of the hole starts to fill in with water. Then the water is moving! It turns out there are little baby snakes swimming around in it. We just dropped in the post and filled in the hole and carried on. We nicknamed that bridge "Baby Snake Bridge", though.

Not wanting to get too far down this rabbit hole, but the material packaging that you posted is/was identical to the packaging I had for a material listed on Amazon as "san note". Mine is/was the same thickness you describe, but was blue on one side and white on the other. They later updated the packaging and then the colour to this brown one here.

$44 USD and free shipping from Japan for 10 slabs in that listing... It was thinner than I would like for letterboxing stamps, so I used it mounted. It's harder than the SEED or Hankeshi-kun material, but slices more like Japanese rubbers than the Chinese or North American ones. I never got around to posting a review for my series, but for those who were at the Box ON in 2016, this was the material that I donated for the raffle... Bon Echo, didn't you or your girls win a slab?

Nobody is ever going to want to box in Florida again if we keep this up. Our reputation is in need of some protection & rumor control. So I'd like to take this time to point out that while we may not be a mecca boxing state, we are not the only state with snakes & gators...

Snakes everywhere, every state! Well except Maine & Alaska, no venomous snakeypoos there.
Copperheads & Timber Rattlesnakes can be found in Connecticut.
The majority of our North American alligators do inhabit Florida and Louisiana but can also be found in Texas, the North and South Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama.

When my New England friends say to me "you have gators and snakes" I do have to agree with them. But I choose those any day over TICKS!

So there, we are even!

Now please come find & plant in our tropical paradise. Is real easy here, just look for the pine tree, you know, the one right next to the palm tree :) :) :)

I got nipped by a snake, sliced by vines, bitten by fire ants and had the bejeezus scared out of me by a manatee......I would HAPPILY and GRATEFULLY box in Florida in a heartbeat given half a chance (it just takes having a business reason to go anywhere for me). No one should think twice about boxing down there......the planters and boxes are phenomenal and it is a truly beautiful state with friendly and warm people.

While boxing in Florida, I learned to ID a poisonwood tree...after the fact. And I've been bitten by fire ants. (My husband is allergic but thankfully, I'm not.)

But I've boxed there on multiple occasions and will happily do it again! It's a beautiful state.

Some people aren't fond of non-venomous snakes either. If you really want to avoid snakes, the place to go is Hawaii. There really are NO wild snakes in that state as I understand it. And hey! It's Hawaii! Who wouldn't want to visit Hawaii?! =)

Now please come find & plant in our tropical paradise.

Maybe in the winter. And after hurricane season is over. ;o)

In Connecticut we have two kinds of venomous snakes, plus Lyme disease. I've had it. It's not fun. I'll risk Florida anytime.

Yes, thank-you for posting that. I looked at the photos and thought it looked a lot like the San Note stuff we received at Box ON 2016, and was going to confirm that when I returned home.

For those who attended Box ON 2017, the "Big Yellow Taxi" stamp from the Music Through the Decades was carved on that material. My 11-year-old daughter carved it (gouge carving). I can't say too much about how it carved but she didn't seem to have any issues with it. I tried a few test cuts, just to make sure it wasn't too firm or too floppy. Took a heat transfer okay. It is thin but IMO firm enough that it does not have to be mounted - the yellow taxi stamp was unmounted seemed to stamp okay (it's about 2" by 2" size).

But as Bumble said, that material is white with thin blue top layer (so thin in fact that I wonder if it actually is a separate layer or just a staining of one surface). Suspicion is that the white-brown and all-white materials are all the same formula, but who knows.
A plug. 😊

I posted a Peanuts Comic swap. I'm sure it's not full because you didn't see it. That's really the only logical answer. 😉😁

http://peanuts.wikia.com/wiki/February_1981_comic_strips

I found this great sight that I'm enjoying very much. I think I'm going to carve a four frame strip and fold it to make it LTC size. You don't have to do the same. There are lots of other ideas that work for an LTC. There are enough comic strips that you can pick one frame from and carve that individual one. Or you can find some ideas on Pinterest. 😊😊😊 Talk to me if you have questions.

No NON-venomous snakeypoos up here in Alaska either if that is your deciding factor. See, we are MMMMUUUUCCCCCCHHHHHH better than Florida. We won't discuss bears though...

Virginia, Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma too, if you are making a list. So we don't have those up here either.

Isn't Alaska looking better and better?

Enough silliness from me. Back to the books.

Manatees stay in the water. How close were you that a manatee snuck up?

To follow up on the thread in general, the only venomous snakes we have in Utah are rattlesnakes. As much as I've been up in the foothills and mountains, I'm surprised that I've seen only one live one (and one dead one) in the wild. I've also been blessed to have encountered no ticks (that I know of).

You can do a search of your area . . . with whatever qualifiers you want -- and then hit "Save Search" and turn on the notifications.

You will get an AQ mail every time a new box is planted with whatever qualifiers you indicate in your area (or any area for that matter).

Yes please! Go boxing in Florida. I have a couple of boxes there that like being found.

That said, I've been researching boxes in the Phoenix area lately and virtually every clue ends with a warning that goes something like this: "this is a desert look out for creepy crawly bitey things and some that even slither". Now all I gotta do is remember what a saguaro is (yeah, that can hurt too) and what the heck a palo verde tree looks like.

Palo Verde is easy. The bark is green.
As for saguaros they kinda stand out. It’s the ocatillo and prickly pear chollas and mesquites and iron wood. Maybe you need a tree and cactus book.

And definitely watch out for things that poke bite or sting. Saguaros don’t make a good brace when trying to get back up from rehiding the box or stamping in.
