There aren't really any in the heart of Philly.

So did you drop any off to give us a reason to go there and plant some more?

We have spent vacation weeks in Cape Hatteras twice a year for the last 20 years or so and even honeymooned there and have a house reserved in Buxton for mid-November. Hatteras Realty has a Facebook page and has been providing reports, pictures and video on a daily basis. Route 12 has 5 breaks in the road. They really took a beating down there. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the folks who are trying to recover from the devastating effects of Irene.

I have found some of her boxes. She is an exuberant newbie to the hobby. She is not going back to retreive her box because she was advised against it.

Thanks Ray,

What's this $1, 000 deal my bro is talking about? He hasn't told me about that...

Its a scheme to try and get attendance at our "Evening Before the All Aboard Gathering". (I said I might have a $1,000 raffle) It apparently worked and now Georgette and I do not have to stay at the hotel and eat sardines and crackers since we got some folks to come eat with us at Spaghetti Warehouse. ;O)

I looked at our plant list in our logbook today and noticed a rash of blue sparkly thingies in the attributes of a few more boxes. Just wanted to thank everyone that rated the boxes. I hope you enjoyed finding them as much as we enjoyed planting them.

Ok so my friends box went to a blue diamond last month. This month it is not a blue diamond. We thought when you get a blue diamond it stays a blue diamond. Is that not the case? It can be taken away from you?

I use Gorilla Glue too. I cut a few shallow slices on the back of the pink stuff and then use a couple of small wooden boards (that I got at wal-mart in the craft section) and some of those large paper clip things with the springs to hold it together while it dries. Works really good, but yes, use a thin layer of Gorilla Glue or it will seep out. Also, it will fill carved out places in the rubber really well while still being pliable, so you can mount a new stamp carved on the back of a stamp that you want to retire and/or you screwed up when you were carving it the first time.

Never used one myself, but I've seen a few and have always worried that a driving rain with high winds would leave you drenched. Also, I don't know where you hike, but I've been able to set up my tent in tiny places in high-ish New England terrain that it would be impossible to put a hammock simply based on tree height, tree strength, or the amount of dead fir/pine/spruce limbs jutting into space.

As if you needed a scheme with all the train event attendees. Right now the Evening Before supper looks like a nice warmup for the next day. It might take a week to wash all the ink away.

We thought when you get a blue diamond it stays a blue diamond.

Nope, I've had a couple of blue diamonds go away. I don't get excited about it because I know they could go away the very next month. After the diamond stays on for a few months, I figure it won't go away too easily, though.

Not only can just one vote remove a diamond from a box, but people can remove their own blue diamond unknowingly. I added a box to the series in Animal Friends and this caused the diamond to disappear for a little while. You have to have had all boxes in the series active for a month on the first day of the month and even though the plant date still shows the same date as the other boxes in the series, AQ knows that particular box wasn't listed for an entire month and the diamond disappears. You can also lose diamonds because only the top 5% of boxes are blue diamonds and there may just be boxes with higher votes than your box.
Ignoring one box in a series

Is it possible to ignore just one box in a series? There is a 2-box series near me that I don't think has a separate 2nd box, 2 stamps are in the first box (and I didn't find clues to a second box) so I only marked 1 box. I emailed the owner to ask if I just missed clues to the 2nd box but received no response. I'm not going back out there unless I know there's actually another box, but the series still shows in my searches. I don't want to ignore the listing because I did find one box, but was hoping I could just ignore one box or have it not show up in my search or something.

First off, what is a "solvent ink"? And where do you get it?

A solvent ink is a permanent ink that works well on plastics, rubbers, glass, and metal. You can buy some at virtually any craft store, or right from Webfoot.

Second, why would you be using any ink with a toner transfer? They don't smear.

A second benefit of using the ink to fix the image is that it creates contrast between what you've carved and what you haven't carved, making firm cut much easier to carve.

80% of Glastonbury is still without power. But, we wanted to get outdoors, and found that letterboxing on the Shenipsit Trail in (East) Glastonbury was great fun. The trails are a little adventurous as planned, but dry, clear, and well marked, and all boxes were found as clued and in good condition. It was nice to see that trails and boxes survived the hurricane!

have a house reserved in Buxton for mid-November.

We had a house reserved for the week of the 17th. (Sept)

I've already prepared the kids that I cannot see how we could possibly go. They are really disappointed, but they remembered that the people who live there and own houses there have so much to deal with right now. I saw one slideshow of the damage and that was as much as I could take. Why are we not hearing more on the news about the NC devastation????

I'm a southern transplanted Northerner. I miss the cool fall air and the brisk walks as leaves swirl and fall about in great showers with the hint of November icily lapping at our necks. REAL pumpkin patches with cute farmsteads set up like an amusement park and pumpkins, gourds, corn, cider, apple butter and costumed kids all over the place. Sweatshirts on by the camp fire.

I stepped in a grassy area next to my house last month that had jellow jackets AND ^&* honeybees buzzing around the white clover. I ended up with 3 stings, 2 on my ankle that swelled up in a HUGE mess and hurt and stung and itched for a couple weeks. My hubby is still not over the sand flea bites he suffered while on a BUSINESS trip at Myrtle Beach a few weeks ago. You can't see me grinning.

Oh and no worries...those Yellow Jackets didn't survive the night. My husband was issued forth to deal with them, a neighbor saw him high-stepping and flailing his arms so came to see what he could do to help. 4 cans of Raid and one gasoline soaked hole and there's nary a Yellow Jacket to be found.

That's awful. I hope your alright. I took my two year old grandson to the zoo.( a nice small manageable zoo) There were yellow jackets everywhere. If you left them alone, they just landed and flew away.
Your right to be careful, back in the eighties my boss was killed by disturbing a nest in the hedges. Consider yourself fortunate with a few stings. I do worry when poking around logs or debris on the ground. Something to think about.

I was planning on doing the T-series on the Tunxis Trail starting this month, but now I'm not sure. I did see a map showing the percentage of people without power by town, and the area around the Tunxis had one of the least people with power out, so maybe it will be possible. In Shelton a couple of the trail volunteers were out yesterday with chainsaws clearing away wreckage, but we have over 15 miles of trails so it's going to take a long time.

Oh, hey, and just a reminder to check the status of those shoreline boxes, everyone. I'm listing three of mine as 'unknown' because I strongly suspect they were swept away.

Dizzy...breathe in...breathe out....don't sweat the small stuff. You need to get a job with the IRS girl...those accounting skills could be used.

So I wonder if the one box was just damaged or something and someone combined them. I have found boxes with 2 stamps, but they normally have them listed that way or show you log it as a bonus.
