of course, Ryan could have done this, knowing Wassa would get the blame...

Happy AQ Anniversary Steve & Kate ! It was great to see you this year at Mojo612's " Show Your Love " event . When I told Wildcat Alice that you would be there ; it became the clincher to mark the calendar for a ride south . If you haven't met Celtic Roots , you're missing out . Here's another example of just having a good time doing something or nothing at all . When we hung out and hiked at T2's birthday bash in Ashland Ma. that time ; you were right about what a great hike and good time it was . I just wish the keyboard would stop " farting " everytime I hit certain keys . No fooling ;
Happy AQ Anniversary !

Having had computer problems very recently - the first one was a short blast and had me thinking 'what now' - but I will say, the noise goes perfectly with the 10" of snow we are expecting today...

Snowday on April Fools Day? That just ain't right....

I would love one for my daughter. she was the only one from her troop that year to do a clean up in our area, and never got sent the patch. If you have one for her, that would be awesome!

My troop was looking to have a pen pal, and I AQ'd someone a long time ago, but never heard back. I don't believe it was you though, I was looking further west. But, I have 18 girls, and we are having a campout tomorrow night. If you would like to exchange info with me, I can set up some quiet time before bed for the girls to write a letter about their adventures.

They are all bridging this year into Juniors. We end in May, but if we get a letter or two in now, maybe it would be something we could pick up again in the fall, or even possibly the girls could keep it going themselves over the summer.

let’s start a letterboxing audit program and create some transparency in the field of letterboxing.

I like this idea. *nodding* That's what they do on Dartmoor to verify if you've made it into the 100 Club, after all. They don't let just anyone into that club! You not only have to earn your way in, but you have to prove that you earned your way in! =)

Actually, that's not such a bad idea. Practical considerations will be important. Reliability will require standardized procedures. I'm not volunteering to create them, but maybe someone has ideas. Letterboxing must adapt with the times.

First, who will audit the auditors? On what schedule will the auditing be done? Or will this be a one-time thing? Liars might be deterred by just one audit. Shaming can be very effective.

Did you raise this with anyone before today? And, if so, what was their reaction? Yeah?

I totally agree, I found it completely ridiculous, hardly seemed appropriate given the serious nature of the episode. The songs were nice, but totally inappropriate in a dramatic series. I only continued watching to see what would happen. Obviously someone wants to promote a singing career!

Welcome to the hobby! I noticed right away that two of your three children have Autism.
I do as well (PDD-NOS) and one board that you may want to check into is the Letterboxing with Disabilities Message Board ( http://www.atlasquest.com/boards/messages.html?gMsgId=396088;gBoardId=367 ) as there have been threads on Autism and Letterboxing there.

I hope you and your family can enjoy letterboxing for many years to come! It really is quite a spectacular hobby!

Maybe I'm not understanding the question. Do you mean use a bag to transport a box and a stamp? Why not put the stamp inside? If it won't fit, it's not the "perfect" box IMHO.

Hey Now, Monkeys!

I would PREfer that you put the $ icon up with the other attributes for the 'box. I might miss a text-only blurb that "sometimes there's a fee, sometimes there isn't." When I 'm in a hurry, I often print clues for areas I will be in without much more than a cursory glance at the clues. I can think of several times that $ icon would have saved me a trip for which I was unprepared or willing to fork over $$ to 'box.

YMMV and invariably will,

Mecklenburg County Cicada Watch Project

Being the nerd that I am, I emailed Lenny Lampel the Natural Resources Coordinator who’s office is in Charlotte in regards to any cicada research projects. He is spearheading a Cicada Watch for Mecklenburg County, NC. “Mecklenburg (and counties surrounding) residents are being asked to report findings of cicada activity, survey areas where emergences are expected, monitor locations throughout the emergence period and follow up on leads of cicada activity. To sign up or get more information, contact Lenny Lampel at 704-432-1390 or lenny.lampel@mecklenburgcountync.gov.”

However, there is a larger effort to collect data and map the emergence of Brood XIX everywhere where they appear. It's called the Magicicada Mapping project and it's run through Dr. John Cooley from the University of Connecticut. The website is www.magicicada.org. You can enter your observations directly through the website. All of the data that we generate from our Cicada Watch will go to the mapping project as well.

There are also 6 research projects that you can participate in including the hunt for the blue-eyed cicada! Don’t forget the prospects of reporting and joining the confersation on these social networking sites.

We could also evaluate the effectiveness of the process by generating a simple linear regression from a multivariate analysis of all discernible factors. Further punitive factors, as introduced earlier, could be introduced to decrease the breadth of standard deviations, assuming the padders are indeed outliers. Nonetheless, a random sample of 278 does not guarantee a confidence level of .05. I would argue that there's no reason to sample if you have access to 100% data. You could simply do a full audit. You could maximize your reliability with replication. This would require multiple audits using the same methods. Perhaps three or four audit committees would suffice.
