I couldn't believe no one could read a compass!

There are always a few things that amaze me every season... wouldn't you think that if you were going on the show, there are certain things you would make sure you know how to do before you get there? For instance, every season there are a few who can't manage a manual transmission -- okay, did you not watch the previous seasons? They always do this... The same with the compass -- wouldn't you think that this is one of the things you would familiarize yourself with, not only have they done it before, but they're traveling in foreign places -- it seems that knowing how to read a compass and a map would be considered "must-have" skills.

No toe steppin here.....can't control when visitors roll through. I still may be able to stop by...I have not been volunteered yet for anything. For those that are trying to plan both, the drive will be about 45 minutes from one location to another.

"Of course, now that I've said that, I'll probably find a guy on a power trip who wants to confiscate them the next time I go through security. =) "

Sure, I think we've just ended up with bad lucky when it comes to security. The lines for security at Logan are longer than most airports I've seen, and the employees seem excessively grumpy, maybe overworked, and seem to have forgotten all their manners. I mean, I personally expect a "please remove the machete from the bag ma'am" or "you may use that bench to put your shoes back on, let me know if you need any help" (oh you poor whale-like pregnant women toting 2 kids who can't see her toes anymore, much less tie her own shoes without deserving an Olympic medal), LOL.
Also, a call to the airline to ask about carrying on questionable items has always worked for us in the past.

And on a final note about KIDS' food & drink:
"Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula and food, and breast milk are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint."
http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm
The problem with this is it varies depending what each person, or each individual security personnel on duty at that moment deems to be a "reasonable quantity". So obviously we've gotten unlucky.

Definitely avoid craft knives/exacto blades in carry-ons, but you can check them:
"Razor-Type Blades - such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors."
"NOTE: Any sharp objects in checked baggage should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors."
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm
So I guess if you're going to check them, wrap them, but label them clearly what's inside so baggage handlers don't impale themselves and confiscate them.

And be careful if you're traveling out of Boston, LOL, since we travel a lot, my husband 1-2 times per month, and it's the only place we've repeatedly run into problems personally.

Enjoy your trips, Disney is a blast. I'm very curious if the boxes are still there in such a well-groomed and observed area!

I want to clarify concerning the Ohio Treasure hikers Patch.

We do have a design-- for the participation patch which is the one with the state seal and a rough draft for for the merit patch, which is the one where you can show off your progression.

However, these have not been ordered yet. When I posted for interest last , I only received 5 responses. The minimum order is 50. We are not in position financially to absorb the cost of the extra patches. I would be more than HAPPY to pass along the design and contact info if somebody else would like to do this, as I simply can't (and feel really really bad!!)

I need some ideas of how to get my neighbor's dogs to stop barking. Every time I or one of my dogs are out in the yard, the neighbor's dogs bark. They don't stop until we go inside, even if we are out for 5 hours. When I first moved in, a year and a half ago, I assumed the dogs would get used to us and stop barking, but that hasn't happened. I've spoken several times with the owners, who do try when they are home to make the dogs stop, but, unfortunately, they are rarely home. Last summer they outfitted the dogs with anti-bark shock collars and though they cranked those suckers high enough that the dogs would yelp every time they barked, the dogs continued to bark. My other neighbors have all given up, after calling the police several times (I guess we don't have laws specifically dealing with this here) but I would still really like to be able to work in my garden, enjoy my deck, etc once the good weather is here.

So, I'm looking for ideas of how to get my neighbor's dogs to stop barking at me. I would reward them with treats for silence (how I trained my dogs not to bark) but I don't get any silence from them and two of the dogs never leave the neighbor's deck since he bought the shock collars. The fence is in a ways from the property line, too, and now is double layered (like the fences around the thoroughbred horses where I grew up) so I can't really get close to the dogs.

Thanks!
Katy

Katy,

I feel for you.

It seems like you and your neighbors (at least in their eyes) have tried everything reasonable to get it to stop and still maintain a good relationship. I don't know there is anything more you can do. It is up to the dog's owners to do something. It is my guess the dogs really don't bark much while the owners are home, or at least are quieted rather quickly. So they don't "feel your pain". I suggest you record this on video the next time you are in the garden and show the recording to the owners so they can understand your situation and frustration.

Best of luck.

I've had this same exact problem for almost 4 years now. We have a hot tub that we can't enjoy and the kids NEVER get to play in the backyard. I'm a night nurse so I have thought about one night going outside every thirty minutes because I know they will start barking and my thinking is that the neighbors would do something about it if they lost a couple nights of sleep over the issue. The only problem is the parents and the little girl take sleeping supplements so I'm not sure it would work. I can't even let my dog out in my fenced yard because my dog gets so nervous because they sound furocious (? spelling). Good Luck! Lori

The house behind my neighbors house has about 3 or 4 dogs, one being some kind of hound that howls and the others are big, a lab and a beagle and a mutt. they barked constantly until my neighbor bought one of those air horn things like you use at sports events. Every time the dogs barked, he blew that thing and after about a week, the dogs stopped barking. It was annoying to us, but it didn't take long. All they dogs stopped barking. My mom sprays her neighbors dogs with the water hose when they aren't home and it's warm enough. But after a few months of it being too cold to spray the dogs they started back barking. They're little yippy dogs like a pomaranian and a chihuahua, so they are gonna bark. but try the air horn. He bought his at Walmart for about $6.

LOL well thank you! No plans on quitting any time soon. It's funny 5 years ago when we started 500 just seemed like an impossible number to reach. There were so few boxes in our area. LOL now, i've set 100 finds for 2010 as the goal. LOL That should be about 3 events worth! :-)

Sounds like a fantastic milestone box! Oconee Station was one of the sets of clues I had printed out before I got snowed out of the Second Saturday Seekers event. Grrrrr... I need to go back and get that one. I swear there is more waterfalls in that area than anywhere else I've ever been!

I definitely want to add my sincere congratulations to Path-to-Eagle on passing his Eagle Board of Review!!!

Talking to him just before his board, his board was larger than normal (a good thing) and I'm very proud of him dotting his i's and crossing his t's and presenting himself in such a great fashion!!! It is VERY obvious he has truly earned the highest rank in BSA!!! He will reap the benefits of his knowledge, skills, hard work and perseverance the rest of his life in this very select brotherhood!

SO very glad to help GG release some red, white and blue balloons and confetti in honor of your entire family!!!

Just now coming back to this thread.

But I find it hard to get behind any hockey team at the Olympics, because they're not really teams. They're a bunch of NHL players cobbled together a few weeks before the games. Where's the Olympic spirit in that?

I know what you are saying as I couldn't help cheering for several Canadian players too, but for me especially, it's VERY similar to the Ohio State v. University of MI rivalry. When you dig just barely beneath the surface, there are so many cross over players between these two states as well. I guess our American teams are very lucky to get some of the Canadian greats to play in our neck of the woods!
