Instead of deleting them and wasting the AQ#

It would be pretty hard to "waste" an AQ #. A number not used is... well, a number not used. It's not like skipping a number takes up space in the database or anything. =)

But if it's a cool number.... it might be worth saving for something cool.

Favorite Boards..?

On My Page, what constitutes my Favorite Boards? Because it's not any that I have picked myself, not could I find any way to pick or mark any boards as favorites. Nor does it seem to be the Boards I have commented/posted in, since several listed are Boards I've never heard of, nor do some of the boards - like this one - that I've posted in show up there. The EDIT pencil only allows me to toggle between with or w/o new messages... unless I missing something (which is possible) or doing something wrong (even more possible :p)

Click on Browse Boards under Boards. The boards that have a little heart are the ones I believe will show up in your Favorite Boards widget.

To remove a board from your Favorite Boards widget click on the heart and X on the right side of the list.

Creating a book cipher question

Is there a way (other than attaching a jpg of the page, I guess) to ensure people print out the exact same page formatting as I used in creating at book cipher? On my letterbox #335474 "Bookish Love" I made a book cipher using the Gutenberg version of Pride and Prejudice.
When my sister went to try to solve it, her printed page of that same Gutenberg version came out formatted totally differently, throwing the line counts off completely. My first line had 23 words in it. Her first line had only 11 or 12. It didn't matter if we selected landscapre or portrait - the count remained the same. ??

sigh. Yeah, I guess. I just made the switch to attaching a pdf print of the page in the clues. I really thought specifying the exact version of the book in question would do it and give people one more thing to track down on their own though. There's some peculiarity about formatting I don't understand.

Actually, the way I'd probably do it would be to format the clue exactly as I want it to look and then take a scan of it and list it as an image clue.

We often see folks asking, "How do I highlight, Italics, Block quote text, etc"
on my AQ posts.
Here's the page with helpful "how-to".

Maybe all of this type of info could be put together (maybe it has but I just haven't noticed) as part of a complete "How-to" page.
Hint, hint, Ryan.

I guess I'm a little confused. I thought those were complete "how-to" pages about formatting messages. And there's always a reference link at the bottom of the page for "Formatting options" whenever you're posting to make it easy to reference.

So I'm not sure what else you want. A pop-up box that people dismiss when they're done with it?

I guess I did just haven't noticed it other than at the bottom of posting pages.
Generally I forget to look below.

I was thinking of somewhere in the header drop-down menus.
Something like "how to do special text in posts aka formatting options".
Unless I scroll below Submit Preview Cancel, I don't notice the link.
I'm guessing I'm not the only one who forgets to see what else in on the page when it's below what I need to see to post a message.

Since you're a premium member, you can do this via the custom menu option.

Yep, already there. I'll add on and mention that the link will either say "Wiki Help" or "HTML Help" depending on whatever option an individual has selected in their preferences. It'll only point to the syntax that will work for each person.

The link at the bottom of the page is there as a reference more than a tutorial. The problem with links in the menubar are that they will open up in the same page and you might lose any text you've already written. The reference link at the bottom of the page will open in a new window and not mess up any insightful comments you've already started crafting. (Some people will know how to open links in a new window from the menubar, but some won't and on things like smartphones, it might be difficult and error-prone.)

How to quote text--probably the most common formatting that people want to do--I list out directly on the page.

This one is easy. I just open another link to AQ so I can see what I want w/o losing where I am.
box names with wiki Decorating Text

I know that you can post messages with decorated text for things like strikethrough, subscripts and superscripts. Can you do the same things with the title of boxes? If so, does it only show up once published? I tried it on the add a box page. Once I added the title and it went to the next section of create a box options, I saw the title as I typed it, not as the wiki decorated look.

I don't want to publish it with the goofy look of none decorated text.

Thanks

No, wiki editing doesn't work with titles. That will only work within the body of the clue.

Perhaps you could include your sig stamp image in your profile, so folks can see your carving style. You can also add samples of your carves in your Logbook->Photo Albums, or if you have a personal webpage, other links, etc.

Also, post a promo, offering to carve stamps on the Stamp Carving and Mounting Board. There's another Board called Stamp Swap, but those are usually requests for donated stamps, or offers to give stamps away, rather than custom carving for a fee.

Post to or keep your eye on the Stamp Exchange Digest and the Stamp Swap board.

Also the Trackers. People looking for event stamps esp. will list a tracker for what they want.

I'm trying to update some of the postage requirements on Postal Letterbox Help Pages. I open the question I want to modify, click on the little yellow pencil, type my changes and hit save. I keep getting an "error found, you must include a question." I'm pretty sure I'm doing it the way I've always done it. I also recall in the past that there was a "preview" option before hitting "save." It might just be me, any help would be appreciated. Thanks
