We included on the first line of one our plants, that the stamp was adult oriented. That way anyone who maybe offended may choose not to find the stamp.

Made you look, made you stare,
It doesn't matter what I wear !!!!
But really.. Eye bleach.... Can't be that bad,
Just the effects of aging.

I’ve looked and perhaps I don’t have the right search string , or perhaps it is not done here - is there a place to share the stamps you are working on/done/fixin to hide?
Thanks for helping out a new zealot !

most people do not do this as it spoils the find excitement. But you can create an album of your carves - go to Toolbox and drop down to Photo Gallery :)

On Facebook, you can join LTC Fanatics and share there. I just shared a photo of a box, including the stamp, I was planting on my personal FB and IG pages. You can always share photos of your stamps anywhere you'd like. Some people like it to be a secret, but happily there are other boxes for them to pursue.

From the Finder's point of view, I don't ever want to pre-see what I'll find in the box ~ if I'm lucky enough to find it.
Faced with a situation when I have limited time and know what some of the stamps look like, I'll choose to spend my time hunting for the unknown ones.

Please remember, too, that sharing online photos of stamps you have found is considered bad form by many, including me.

As someone else posted, you are free to share the stamps you have done or are working on but generally speaking, most of us do not want to see stamps before we find the letterbox. That is a very large part of what letterboxing is about....the surprise of finding a stamp. You might want to post a spoiler alert if you publish images before planting.

Since you are new, you may want to spend some time exploring this web site, including the Code of Conduct...

https://www.atlasquest.com/about/rules/respect.php

Under 'Home' you will also find a Glossary section and "About Letterboxing". Under Tools you will find Tutorials.

The more you know about letterboxing the easier it is to enjoy our hobby.

One thing you could do is join one of the MNC zoom chat events( Monday Night Carving), posted under "events". You are welcome to sit & carve while we chat, show your current carving project or even a finished stamp there; but not to publish them online or in a FB thread, since that is not in line with the basic premise of letterboxing-we want to enjoy the surprise of seeing the image after finding the box😊

I totally 100% agree with you that publishing stamp images online is against the basic premise of letterboxing. And I wish people would NOT do it.

That being said I don’t think we can tell people to not publish their own stamps. And trust me, it pains me to say that! We can just hope they come down on the side of respecting tradition that goes back over 20 years.

We can on the other hand try to make it very clear they know to NOT ever publish another person’s stamp without permission.

I don't mind seeing a stamp before finding it in a box. It's not something which would ever discourage me from seeking a box. But many boxers really like the surprise so my opinion is uncommon I suppose.

The artist should decide what they want to publicly share about their art. I am not aware of any boxers who currently share images before planting a box, but I am still rather new at this. Sharing my stamp images for traditional letterboxes publicly is not something I would do, and I might even be annoyed if someone were to reveal the image publicly without consent. But you should do whatever you feel is appropriate with your artwork!

Welcome!

I love that you are already carving. I never mastered it, even at a preschool level. Respect!!

I am going to reiterate what folks have said

You, as the artist, have the right to share your art however you choose. (I personally love the surprise of the stamp image in the box--and seeing how it relates to the box name. I am very fortunate to box in an area where we have some very clever folks...)

Sounds like the FB group or the zoom meetings would be a great place to show your progress--and if you can get to a local event, you might also find like-minded souls

Please DO NOT share the art work of others. I know, you never even alluded to doing this--as you might guess from the comments, this has happened.

I look forward to getting to know you here on the boards--happy trails!

Maybe, but I'm with you. For me the important thing is the challenge of the hunt. I love and appreciate the art, but seeing it beforehand wouldn't spoil it for me.

One of the most thrilling moments in my life was seeing Van Gogh's Wheatfield With Crows in person. Standing a few feet away from the actual paint he spread and the majesty of the art brought me to tears. This, despite having seen the image a million times before in books, posters and online.

But I also respect that others appreciate the surprise.

Back in the day, as an art history student, having the opportunity to see a painting or stained glass in a cathedral, brought a greater appreciation to the art I spent hours in 8am classes, in the dark viewing to the wow level. Like you said, the thick paint strokes, or the sun sparkling on the glass is never achieved on a screen or a book. Same with seeing how the rubber was carved. What was left and what was removed and how that created the printed image. As my major suggests, I am a visual learner.

remember, art historian, not artist.......so expect that in my carve abilities ;j

Ok, so Ive been trying to figure out an easy way to 'flag' boxes that I want to get before they leave my 'new boxes home page' without actually printing them out.

I saw the 'watch box' feature, so I figured maybe there was a 'link' or something that I click and it shows which boxes I am watching. But I cant seem to find one

So here is my stupid question. After I click 'watch box', what am I actually watching for and is there a way to see a list of boxes that I am watching?

Not really sure what the feature is for. I know once I found a HH that was like 8 yrs old and traveled all around the country, so I 'watched it' to see where it goes, but that was the end of it. :(

I take a screen shot of the new boxes on the home page & just keep them in photo’s for reference later. It has worked out great for me.

I can answer part of that, I think. When I watch a box, I get notified when something on the listing changes, like the clue or status. I think it's something changed by the owner or planter that affects the listing. I don't get any notification of finds, attempts, or comments.

Not sure where to find a list of my watched boxes, though.

Here's all about watched boxes.

To see a list of boxes you're watching, do an Advanced Search, scroll down to the Premium Options section, and check the "Show only watched boxes" box.

There's not really a link, but you can run a search for watch boxes from the Advanced Search page. Click the option to return only watched boxes in the results.

I don't think you are using the feature like it's intended to be used, though. Generally speaking, a watched box is one where you want notifications for if the clue is changed or its status changes. It's not really meant to "bookmark" a box to be referred to later. AQ tells YOU when something has changed--it's not meant to be used as a bookmark.

There is, however, a feature that DOES work like a bookmark--the tags. Premium members have 8 possible tags to use, and you can use them however you want. They're actually a way to bookmark boxes (or trackers or events) to look up again in the future, and each tag can be used for a different purpose however you see fit.

You'll still use the Advanced Search page to run a search that limits the results to boxes with the specified tags. Most of the time, people just want to see the tags as icon by the boxes that they've marked with tags rather than limit a search just to boxes with a specific tag, but the Advanced Search page lets you control which tag (or tags) to include in the search. AQ won't send notifications either about the clue or status changing if that's not what you wanted either.

YEA!!!!!!! This is perfect. Not exactly what the 'watch box' is set up for, but this works perfectly for what I wanted it for.

So now I can just click 'watch box' and then when im ready to go find them, Ill click on the old 'advanced search' and then when im ready, Ill print them out and head out vs having a note book of printed clues of boxes that I want to get.

Thanks all. Much appreciate it.

i think you migjt have missed what gt was aiming for. you could do the watch box but a more effective way is to use a tag. you can name the tag, which is colored shapes, anything you want. for example take the clue you want to keep for future use and tag it with the red square. then when you want to look at the clues you go to letterboxes on the top of the ag pages and in the dropdown go to my searches. there you will find the red square with all the boxes you saved. and you are the only one that sees that.

The tags are very useful, especially since you can edit the tag name so you remember what it's used for. I currently use yellow for "printed" to tag boxes I have already printed otherwise I would end up with many duplicates.

Ok, so Ive been trying to figure out an easy way to 'flag' boxes that I want to get before they leave my 'new boxes home page' without actually printing them out.

I just use the Notepad Widget and copy and paste the link for that box. Or any other box that I happen to see in a search and want to save for later. For me I find that the simplest way. Then when I get around to finding the box I just go into Notepad and delete the link.

I use the App Clue Tracker for finding boxes and saving them- you can save them by clicking on a backpack and they save by city too. It is great for little trips and also for searching for 'Nearby' boxes to your location.
