Tennessee Event Update -- If you were eyeing the event yet were concerned about being on the wait list, we have good news. We opened the event to more people. That also means that everyone who was on the wait list is now off of the wait list!

Lots of Boxes?

Does anybody know of areas in the NC/SC/VA area that have a high concentration of letterboxes? I am looking again for new areas to visit that are within a few hours of Lake Norman, NC.

Yes, yes, I know, I know. Some of you are more concerned with the destination. For me, I like the challenge. The most boxes that I have found in one day -- not counting at events -- is either 51 or 52. Can I beat that? It is like a race against myself. πŸ˜‰

Not counting New Bern? And I'm guessing you've been to the cemetery in Asheville already because you have one there.... Lol

Haha. We were fortunate to get about 137 boxes in the New Bern area, and I know that there are a LOT more. It does take almost five hours to get there, though, or I would visit McGinnis again more often. πŸ˜‰

There are a bunch of boxes in Asheville that I do not have yet. That could be an idea.

Thanks for some suggestions!

There are about 100 around Roanoke/Buchanan (35 of these are a long hike though)

We got this idea once. It was a major bust we went to Knoxville because on paper it looks like a gold mine of boxes. But I’m the contrary it was terrible… very disappointing. We did better in the suburbs but still nowhere enough boxes to justify the trip.

Tiggermama took me to Knoxville for my birthday one year, and I think that we found about 115 boxes over the weekend. What an adventure that was! That was some years ago, though.

How far is it to Stone Mountain, GA from you? (It is generally a three hour drive or so from CLT) I find that Atlanta (the north side especially, Stone Mountain, Marietta etc) can be very fruitful.

Thank you for the suggestion! It is about four and a half hours, which is a bit far for me for a quick trip yet an idea for a several days trip.

Paris Mountain has lots of boxes. Five is Alive has a list of the boxes there - with which trail they are on. You may already have those, though.
Greenwood/Abbeville is another location with lots of boxes. Pay attention to the log notes, though, because some of those have gone missing (urban)
I think the most boxes I've gotten in a day was when I came to your hometown and grabbed some over 2 days.

There are a super lot of boxes in Mooresville, NC. My favorite is Whoo are yoou? There are not a lot of trails in Mooresville, though, so there are no long hikes for folks who like to hike.

Hello!
For our Susquehanna Sojourn event this year, we are seeking a stamp from each of the 50 US states. We have 60% of the states claimed, but we are still missing several from the Southeast region. If you live in (or have lived in) Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, or Tennessee, and you'd like to contribute a state stamp to our event, please check out the details and sign up in our tracker:
https://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.php?trackerId=11387

Any questions, please AQ message Eiryn or me.
Thanks for considering this!

Bama Beach Bum and I are finally hosting our long-awaited event, Day of Decades- Replay, on Friday, August 2, 2024. Hopefully, some can make it to our little northwest corner of Alabama.
Previously, we had the event planned in 2020 & cancelled for many reasons (mainly covid and how it changed lots within our personal lives).
Here we are, back and ready to box! See you on the trails!
