I just finished watching Treasure the movie on Amazon Prime. Saw a TB code while watching the movie. So inputted the code and it turned out to be a real one to discover. Read that there are 10 of them to find. Anyone find them all? Please no spoilers I am going to try and look for them. I was just curious if anyone has found them all? Thanks.

Take care,

"Add to list" not working

I am trying to add some archived caches to a list I am building on geocaching.com. I have the pages up, but the "Add to list" isn't working for regular or archived caches.

I can view the list, hit the "+" and add regular caches to the list. However, this doesn't work for archived caches because they are not active.

I have tried this with Chrome, Firefox and Opera web browsers.

1) Are you having the same problem?
2) Do you know another way of accomplishing what I am trying to do?
AR in the UK

This is in the UK, but if Ordnance Survey recruits AR developer to build 'geolocated quests' to help get Brit couch potatoes exercising outdoors catches on something similar may be done here in the US.

There is already geocaching, Pokemon Go and Munzee, but maybe something new will work. Probably not though, but it will be interesting to see what develops.

Did you do or publish any of the AR caches when they had that limited window of time we could do them? I mean, we can still play them if they’re already published, but do you have any in your area? I put out a whole series that essentially is a giant geocaching version of the game Clue, with each cache in the series containing a QR code to the AR experience that had a person, a TOTT (instead of a weapon) or a place. If you collect all of them in the series, you know the answer to who muggled the cache, with what, and where. I thought it was so clever and I put hours and hours of time into it, and was so excited to see the geocaching community go crazy for it, and, well, it got a lot less enthusiasm than I expected. Probably in part because it was mostly puzzles and multis with one letterbox hybrid thrown in, and partly because the AR aspect confused people, even though you only needed to do the AR element if you wanted the final of the series. I wish they had released this prototype with more time for people to get used to the idea, learn how to build them, and allow for clever ideas to percolate. As it was, I rushed on my job, spent probably close to 30-40 hours a week for a week and a half pulling the series together before the deadline for publication hit, and it continues to be work to maintain the series for a lot less attention than I thought it would garner. Don’t get me wrong; some people absolutely latched onto it with fervor, and I get people coming from the next city over (about a ninety minute drive) who’ve been picking at the series bit by bit, so it’s fun to see them working on it, but geocaching HQ could have done so much more with this as a hybrid cache type and just didn’t allow the community enough time to get used to the idea, much less develop it. Shame. And I’m the only one in my area to put any out, so I’ve never actually played one for myself. Though all this babble has put in mind a curious idea for a letterbox series... 🤔

I played one of them that was published in my area. I wanted to do one in my area, but I never did get around to making one. The AR that I completed is 14 miles south of me. The next closest one is 42 miles south. The one after that is over 350 miles away.

I would like that Geocaching HQ do a new type for each of the AR, challenge and puzzle caches, but they don't want to introduce new types easily. Munzee is the opposite in that respect; it seems that they introduce new types for every holiday. New types have become common that I find them ho-hum now. I want something in between.

I have published a Adventure Lab Cache. There are a few more of those around here. But because we can do a bonus cache with them, they turn into a linear tour. This is still more interesting than most other caches, but still not as interesting as a Wherigo.

It is because (as far as I have seen used) the coordinates to the final cache is in the message of one of the zones. I guess that the coordinates could be done so that you have to have all five pieces to get the final coordinates, but that would make it more complicated. I may have to do that if I am awarded another Adventure Lab credit.

At least GCHQ has left the Wherigo cache type so that we can publish new ones. I'm working on one right now, as in yesterday and tomorrow but not today. I prefer Wherigos that aren't linear, so that is what I'm making. It is linear in that you will enter each zone for the first time in a specific order, but what you do after that first time is up to you and you will be visiting two zones multiple times. It is a variant of the Fox, Goose, Grain problem that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Your idea of making it like a game of Clue is interesting. There was a series of caches around here that had the same names as the rooms in Clue. Each one held clues as to what wasn't the murderer, weapon and room. I never did finish it, and most of them have been archived now. From your description yours was similar in how it was done.

I did an adventure lab where it was a walking tour of their town, but it was also a mystery. She set it up so you had to locate the missing geocacher, sort of like Clue, but not. In the journal entry after you answered it correctly it gave you a piece of the puzzle, like “so and so was not seen at the post office” so by the time you got all five stops you had enough info to know where they were and you ran the answer through a checker for the bonus cache and you got the coords. I just published my AL and intend to put a bonus cache in... I figured I’d put a part of the coords in each journal answer to make sure they do all five stages. Mine isn’t linear, either, but it is on a trail, so by its nature it’s linear. They could walk it from either direction, though.

I love wherigos. We have only 1 in our area, and it’s new. A kid put it out. Put all us adults to shame. I’ve actually wanted to build one for years but I can’t from my Mac.

I use Linux so I can't use the Groundspeak Wherigo builder.

Check out the Wherigo Foundation. They have two different web builders. I use Earwigo.

Good luck.

There are tutorials on how to use them.

In order to use Earwigo you need to contact sTeamTraen through Geocaching.com.

The other web based one is Wherigo\\kit. I assume that you need to contact RangerFox to get access to that one, but I don't see any information on that one.

Pick whichever one you like better. You can always use different ones for each cartridge you make.

PodCacher has done an episode or two on wherigos and how to build them. I think they may have mentioned this website. I keep meaning to see what I could do with a web builder. I’ve been catching less and ‘boxing more lately, but I’m feeling it start to swing back the other way a little (as it does with me, back and forth) so maybe I’ll work on that this winter.

I put out one Wherigo in January 2014, and I'm working on another. They are both based on the Fox, Goose and Grain river crossing puzzle, but they will be slightly different problems.

I would think that the Wherigos that I make are the type that letterboxers would like. However, I get the impression that letterboxers don't like using technology to find boxes. Maybe I will put a stamp in this one so that letterboxers may be interested in finding it.

When did these AR caches come out in the US?

They came out in the summer of 2018. They were an experimental new "type", so they show up in the catch-all "mystery" type.

Ive never heard of them. Is there a way to search them out specifically?

They all start with "AR_" and are mystery type. Use "Play => Search" then set up those filters to find them. I haven't found a way in pocket queries to filter based on name.

The closest to me are one about 15 miles south (that I found), and 42 miles south. The next closest is over 350 miles away, so they weren't very common.

They have many of the characteristics of a Wherigo cache. Instead of developing their own author and playing software, GCHQ set characteristics for third-party apps to qualify for this experiment.
While AR has some additional features, it lacks some others. For now, you can play them but you can't make any new ones.

Back when Caching was fun and interesting!
Now the stuff left behind by the hamsters is probably the best trade item in the cache.

We have gone to many shows to see Justin Johnson over the past few years. He has a big collection of instruments that he plays. They took a motorhome cross country for a couple of years and now they live in the Nashville area now. We have a double album set, that he did, called the cross roads of time. One was done on all antique cigar box guitars.

It's cheating, really, because if you're electronically amplifying the sound, you can literally make a guitar out of anything. If you want it to sound decent acoustically, you've gotta be a lot more careful about the construction.

But can it still be called geocaching (or geolocation) since it is no longer geocentric?
