Uncle Fred is Dead Event X post

Uncle Fred is DEAD

Samuel Federico Vasquez, known to the archelogy world as “Fred da Finder” is dead. If there was a lost antique, or a deep-sea hidden treasure, a historic relic lost to time or an ancient antiquity buried far in the dark corners of the world that caught Fred’s attention, he was the man to find it!

Needless to say, Samuel Federico Vasquez, a.k.a. “Fred da Finder” was highly revered and his contributions to the archelogy world were exceptionally distinguished and beyond comparison.

But let’s be honest friends, Uncle Fred was an a$$hole to the rest of us.

The man had so many ex-wives, girlfriends and mistresses that could it have made even the most popular of Sultans blush.

Thankfully, no children.

He was never one to show up at Thanksgiving on time, or bring some exotic wine to share and break bread with.

The man never sent birthday cards, or wedding gifts or thoughtful sympathy notes.

Hell, the man barely even called his mother on her birthday and Mother’s Day. And he actually liked her.

Ultimately, he was a betrayer of men and, well, women. He lied. He cheated. He even stole, obviously in the good name of archelogy. But still . . . he was a man of questionable integrity. There wasn’t an arch-enemy he wasn’t hesitant to cross. Or a partner he wasn’t afraid to double cross. And well, he triple crossed all of his wives . . . Again, thank gawd he didn’t have any children.

Needless to say, it was down right shocking when his attorney, an C. S. Grimes contacted you and informed you that YOU, yes, YOU, were his favorite person of all time and that YOU are the sole beneficiary of his extensive estate.

But like I said before, Uncle Fred was an a$$hole. You think after all of that world traipsing he was going to make easy for you?

Hell no.

Did you NOT just read my description of this man?!?!?!

Uncle Fred is going to make you hunt for his treasure.

Anyone game?

Devilish Details:

Date of Uncle Fred’s Funeral: July 9th, 2022

Time: 9 am to 3 pm

Location: Lithia Park, Ashland, Oregon & Ashland, Oregon

Fine Details: This event has 3 options. You can hunt for the treasure left by Uncle Fred or you can simply hunt for stamps. Totally up you. Third option is you can do both, but treasure hunt comes first. When you sign up, please let me know what you are intending to do.

Teams of Treasure Hunters: Right now, I have not settled on which way I want to play this. It could be an app on your phone or it could done on paper, or BOTH. Since I am not certain, the only thing I can recommend is that your pair up with just ONE of your favorite peeps and keep your treasure hunt team at TWO people. But you will definitely need at least one cellphone at this point, something to write with and a clipboard.

Also, I will have logbooks available for this event. Given the fact that there are fun treasures involved, this should add to the adventure of the event. But these will require purchasing. Up to you. But please let me know before June 1st, 2022. $15 each.

Stamps Part 1: If you are in the carving mood, and would like to donate a stamp or two, the stamps fall into two many categories: Ex Wives and Treasures.

For EX Wives: You are welcome to name her, and give her a back story with Uncle Fred. Or if you’d rather I do that, it’s perfectly fine. Carvers get carving credits per the usual.

For the Treasures: Some ideas: A Ming Vase of the 17th Century, the HOPE diamond, the Ark of the Covent, a Russian Fabergé egg, Blackbeard’s Treasure, Triton’s trident or a treasure with a backstory completely made up. (Made up treasures are fabulous!) Again, you can name the treasure and provide a backstory or I can do that. And, yes, carvers get carving credits per the usual.

Stamps Part 2: At this point, I am needing 10 Ex Wives and 15 Treasures. If you are interested and want to donate, I will set up a list. And if you want to do more than one, thank you very much! LOL.

Stamps Part 3: The stamps need to within 3x3, for the logbooks.

Stamp Part 4: I will need all stamps mailed to me by May 1st, 2022, to prep for planting. I will provide my address at a later date.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. Otherwise, looking forward to seeing you at the funeral.

My apologies for my late reply. I spent most of last week in San Antonio, celebrating my son's graduation from the Air Force basic training. But yes! Thank you very much.

Here is the link where I added your information: https://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.php?trackerId=11022

Again, I apologize for my delayed response.

Thanks for posting this, I’ve never been to Oregon, but I love a mystery, and this was very interesting. It brings to light all of the small abandoned parks and access sites in our own backyards. Places that are designated conservation areas that start off as nicely maintained walking trails to old mill sites and waterways, great small hikes through woods, but are eventually just forgotten about and no longer maintained. Sad to see, that vandalism & illegal activity takes place wether they are open & maintained or abandoned & closed for good. Through letterboxing I’ve come across quite a few beautiful scenic spots & trails that one would never guess they are even there just driving by. So thankful for letterboxing getting me out to explore all these hidden gems.

Pi and I stopped by there this weekend. There's no parking anywhere close. The only way in at this point is by river and that's an unmaintained and tough climb.

Hello all!
This is my first attempt at starting a thread here in hopes of finding some recommendations on your favorite carves found in and around Portland/Vancouver area. We started Letterboxing about 1 year ago and absolutely love it. We are on our first stamp journal and just wanted to see if anyone had some really cool or silly Stamps or locations to recommend we search for.
Thank you all and I hope this is the right place to ask :)

Welcome! We're so glad to have you! One of my favorite stamp series was by Spaceship Passengers. It was a safari themed one in Forest Park.

Of my own, I'd say, May Her Memory Be a Blessing, More Than a Pretty Dress, and Walk of Fame are my favorites.

I experienced it as a kid, though my parents didn't want to drive so far south for it. We lived in Corvallis and usually just went to Newport.

The not wanting to drive to it was part of why it did not survive. The documentary talks about that, about how far it was from Portland, Salem and Eugene

Love it! I'm putting it on my "list to get" if you make one. Or maybe I'll make one. There use to be a similar amusement park in Spokane, Natatorium Park. Maybe we could start a series... it would be interesting to research. https://natpark.org/index.html

Mystery at the Museum Event X~Post

When Larry Daley heard the American Museum of Natural History in New York was sending it’s Egyptian exhibit along with the British Tate Museum’s of their Cleopatra Exhibit West to Vacaville California, he immediately begged his bosses to reconsider. Having learned the secret of the Tablet of Akhmenrah seventeen years ago, and being it sole Guardian of its secrets since, Larry feared disaster was abound for the exhibit.

And on a cold, dark Autumn's night, during a ferocious storm, Larry’s greatest fears came true! Plastered all over the news that the very Vacaville Museum hosting both exhibits was pilfered by unknown thieves. Worst yet, gone was the Tablet of Akhmenrah!

The thieves, believing themselves to exceptionally clever and beyond cunning, thought it would be fun to taunt the police and FBI with clues as to who they were and more importantly the whereabouts of their now stolen loot!

Catching the very next flight out West, Larry had a chance to briefly glance at the clues left behind. Immediately, he knew that in order to decipher the clues, puzzles and codes, he was indeed going to need help! And there was only group of people Larry trusted the most with helping him solve the mystery of the thieves and the whereabouts of the valuable tablet . . . Letterboxers!

But can these intrepid boxers solve the case? Are they familiar with the world’s most famous pieces of art? Would they know a forgery or false clue when they see it???? So Dark the Con Man . . . or is it really just the Madonna On the Rocks . . . Tsk, tsk, it was just Larry’s guess at this point.

In the meantime, the FBI is keeping a tight lid on this mystery that is for sure!

So, can you and your team of 4 experts answer the call? Can you help solve the mystery and help recover the Tablet of Akhmenrah?????

Come October, we shall see . . . we shall see!

It was reported to us today that "the otter is really cute but the box looks like trash. It is in a tortilla bag." I can only think that someone took the lock'n'lock we planted it in and left the contents there in a tortilla bag. :( We do not live anywhere close, so if you do and you're looking for a cute otter....maybe you could please bring along a lock'n'lock and some baggies and make this box presentable again? We would be ever so grateful!!!! This is the box: https://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.php?boxId=305228
