I remember really enjoying Edison's laboratory tour as a kid. It was pretty fascinating.

Pakrat has some very interesting mystery boxes. Some are more difficult than others. Or you could read that easier than others. Some of them have been around a long time but he is pretty good about keeping up with the status. I've done some and have never been disappointed.

This site has some cool stuff. The sculpture garden in Hamilton Township has been on my bucket list for a while now.

There's not a whole lot of planting going on in Jersey but I have spent a fair amount of time going across the border from NY. lol

Oh......Scout just planted quite a few in Princeton! They should be great. Haven't made it there yet.

If you are going to be in northern NJ and want nice hikes, you want to check out boxes by Wing Foot. I have a couple boxes scattered from north to central NJ.

When you have a better idea where you will be, write another post!

I agree. We did that about 3am while driving up from GA to MA. I highly recommend doing it then for the extra creepy factor!

If you are near Washington's Crossing, there are quite a few boxes in the State Park. I used to live in Franklin Park (between Princeton and New Brunswick) and I have 2 letterboxes planted in the area.

Also if you cross over into PA, there are a bunch at Tyler State Park and a few at Core Creek (I have two there and one at Tyler).

Welcome to the game. You might consider inviting a friend to go letterboxing with you. Then you can work together to get your area more active. 😃👍

Jersey is a bit of a wasteland. Probably have to do some driving. I live in Westchester and usually have to go to other areas.

If you are interested in mystery boxes, 'pakrat' has some really good ones and they are all in Jersey. I logged out and could still see them so it seems he has no restrictions on them.

There are boxes in nearly every county in NJ. While they aren't under every rock (exaggerating) like some states, you will get to see a lot of the state in the process.

There seem to be some new ones in Princeton. Also don’t forget to check letterboxing.org, some of those older ones may still be there and they’re worth going after.

Shelter Island Yachts Box

You may wonder why I am posting this in the NJ board but I lived in NJ for most of my life and started to letterbox in NJ and I know many people from NJ visit Shelter Island NY!!! There is a section of the island called the Montclair Colony that was settled by many people from Montclair, where I started to box and lived there for 6+ years.

On Saturday, August 31, 2019, I will be replanting my Shelter Island Yachts letterbox. The original box was one of my first plants and first in New York in August 2009 and although the stamp was very nice, it was just a store-bought... I pulled the original box in January, for a RubberMaid container it held up nice but just wasn't very water resistant and the 2 freezer bags were pretty well done. The stamp and book were were damp and moldy.

So... I'm self-promoting my carves to be found and I kind of have spoiled what this stamp looks like, but Shelter Island (between Montauk and Orient Points on Long Island for those that don't know) is such a beautiful place to visit with lots of really nice things to do and see and not far from the Hamptons either. One third of the island is part of the Nature Conservancy with many trails and views and a very old family cemetery... but that isn't where the stamp is...!

Here is the link, in case you might want to visit:

Just wanted to say thanks again for the letterboxers who noticed I am active again and sent me messages. It's been fun carving, planning, and planting again.

Hope everyone is safe and well in these troubled times.

Thanks

"Bench Box Blues" Clues

This might be a long shot, but would anyone happen to have clues to Silent Doug's "Bench Box Blues" box? It seems letterboxing.info has been down for some time and the archive was no help in obtaining these clues. We might be in the area at some point in the relatively near future and wanted to give this box a go, if we could find the clues. Thanks!

I could only get as far as where you probably also got stonewalled. It is listed under boxes Silent Doug adopted but isn't available in the wayback archive. Wonder if there is a way to find the name of the original planter. Maybe the original listing could be found that way.

I believe the original planter was Floating Feather. There is such a trailname on AQ, but they have zero plants. It doesn't seem that they are registered on LbNA.
